this singing is not "over the top" and you apparently have not been watching the same shows I have, it is not until the performers put themselves out there vocally that the audience appreciates them and they were just having fun with the song and showing that the voice can be a vocal instrument

Nowadays this kind of over the top singing wouldn't even get past the idols audition (maybe end in first round).

Yeah, I feel her too. I attended an Aretha Franklin program and Luther and I bumped into each other. I wanted to tell him to do it again. Now that was when he was about 280 or 300 pounds. He was looking good then and smelling good.
