Rather than having monitor speakers on the floor, you can have in-ear monitors so you can hear the mix--and yourself--while also keeping the stage volume down. House sound engineers like less stage volume...makes it easier to get a good sound in the room, and helps eliminate feedback. I still prefer playing live with regular floor monitors, though...it's nice to "feel" the sound as much as hear it.

This is the first time I ever saw anything of Ellie Goulding. Usually SNL sets pretty much suck balls because of the stage. Everyone is always off but I was impressed how she kept it together. As for the dress, it looks like the sizing was off. Shoot the wardrobe person for that, not Ellie.
