that's stupid - cujo is not a 'big dumb dog who eats people'. he was a nice, gentle dog who got rabies and because he was so ill, he became extremely aggressive and... well. insane. it just all panned out quite well in the movie - her car breaking down, the mechanic being in the middle of nowhere, her husband being away, nobody left at the mechanic's house and the fact that they had very little water and it was a heatwave. in the book, tad actually dies.
