Cliff burton only played metal. Victor plays Blues, Jazz, blue grass and funk. If cliff had more time, i don't think he would have ventured very far. Whereas, victor can play a water fall. He can play the drums on bass. He can play the guitar on bass. He can do SO much more, regardless of the time cliff had.
Wooten is probably better, but cut some slack for Burton. Cliff's song was made in the 1980's, then he died. Wooten's song was made a few decades later. I bet if Cliff was alive longer, he'd have been a lot better.

The problem I have with Victor is that it all seems too much a lot of the time, there are places where it would be nicer just to relax and do less. Having said that he is still an excellent player technically and I do love most of his stuff. Comparing him to cliff burton is as many people have said, silly (paraphrasing) because the genres are so different, but i would give it to victor, i have never liked the amount of effects used by cliff. But then my views are jaded by my love of funk...

Wooten is better, but not because he's alive and plays with his fingers. Burton used his fingers too, but lots of great bassists use picks, like Chris Squire and Carles Benavent, among others.

Well dude, I mean read your comment before this one, you said Burton used a wah and distortion pedal to get that sound. Yeah he was fast and skilled, but Wooten uses nothing but his fingers to get every sound he makes.

Personally, in my opinion, and thats all that it is, like everyone elses little comments here, I think that theyre both insanely good bassists and you cant really compare them- the shoe or doorstep comment really hit that nail on the head :D At the end of the day, Cliff is only better than Wooten at metal in some peoples opinion- music is all opinions. I cant stand elvis-but i can appreciate that without him, we wouldnt have music as it is today. We are all entitled to our opinion. Enjoy the vid

ya, i agree with past comments, its not really fair to compair funk to metal... theres 2 different standards and styles... but i would say Burton is a better Metal style then Wooten is for... funk? i forget his style, but because Burton is like the best metal bassist... wooten is bood but there've been better in funk... i personly like burton better because its more my style, i like metal more then funk, i only know one funks song... we want the funk

Wooten is better, but not because he's alive and plays with his fingers. Burton used his fingers too, but lots of great bassists use picks, like Chris Squire and Carles Benavent, among others.

yo im a big fan of cliff but im sorry on his own cliff wasnt a good bassist but yea maybe he would have gotten better later on but he would have had to leave metallica anyway. The main reason is the genre wooten plays is just more complex and cliff plays metal but I would have liked to hear cliff play clean.

well, victor and cliff are two of the biggest bass players in the history. Cliff had a very different style (Victor use some slap), Cliff inovated the use of effects in the bass, but Victor have a better technique. i love both!! jajaja
