She's not a cake decorator per say. She designs art pieces of mixed medium. Yeah..that's what...art pieces of mixed medium. lol. ( I do admire her free spirit but she really doesn't belong there.)
You know, it's a good thing that that thing did catch on fire, or else it might have been released upon poor, unsuspecting people actually expected to eat it.
"Stevie lit Kerry's birthday cake on fire in an attempt at pyrotechnics, and the creation welded itself to the stainless steel table. The crew moved it out to the dumpster--table and all--and the next day when Kerry drove onto the set, she nearly fell out of her car laughing. "We'd had a good snow overnight, and there was Stevie's cake all covered in snow, and it was the prettiest I'd ever seen it! I called my husband and said I finally have a beautiful birthday cake from Stevie!"
@saufenniere.... "At least this cake has some originality to it..." Uhhh yeah, riiiight. Maybe I can get on FoodNetwork. I got a great idea for a cake...a decapitated armadillo laying on top of fondant tire marks. I thought I'd throw in a "Amarillo 15 miles" sign in the background.
I think its awesome... The other cakes are really boring on that episode..You guys wonder why they bring her on. how bout this video has 160k views... she is so entertaining. Cant wait for her next episode.
@YamsRyu well actually they are taking part in a competition where the cakes are not eaten, only another sample cake is eaten, so umm yeah and also, the other cakes are made in fondant which doesnt taste good anyway. Atleast this cake has some originality to it, the other cakes are all the same 3 tiered wedding cakes their all the same i thought it was neat to see an aberration for once.
@saufenniere Granted, fondant isn't the best tasting stuff in the world. But you can still make a great tasting/great looking cake without having it look hideous. This cake was an insult to the show, to the judge that it was being made for and to the IQ of all watching. Her daring to claim she was trying to make any form of art is belittleing our intelligence. She was clearly just trying to insult the judge by making the biggest disaster possible. Every time I see Stevie work, I'm disappointed.
I caught this episode half way through.....just in time to say WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT MESS??
Seriously.
I never knew what the "inspiration" or concept was supposed to be. Was that really the concept drawing shown at the beginning of this video? If so, can someone tell me how it went from that to THIS mess?
I think bitch musta dropped some bad acid then found out she had to come on a do the cake at the last minute. There IS no other explanation.
Just watched the edible landscapes challenge last night... Wow. Stevie took WTF to totally new levels. In her defense, though, it DID at least look like a swamp.
i really dont known how she makes it onto the show. she has never meade anything decent on it..i taught the Xmas tree challenge was bad...i couldnt beleive she did this! she had to be taking the piss!!!
I can appreciate Stevie's take on things, but, OMG she completely embarrassed herself with this fiasco of a "cake". And, to do it in front of all people, Kerry Vincent!!!!! WTH was she thinking?!?!?!? I hope she doesn't "flambe" her career away...
Hahaha, I love this. Stevie, if you're reading this, stop making cakes and go be a 2nd grade art teacher. You'll be happier. Or wait for FN to do Challenge: Lovecraftian cakes before coming back.
i remember watching this and i could not stress enough at how bad of a fucking "cake" that was. Normally i give credit to people's efforts but man this was a fucking disgrace to the entire food network.......and to ChefBenDiaz......i hope they put you on there instead of this bitch again
I was thinking the same thing while watching this! I can't believe she thought that cake looked *good*! It looked like something a 6 year old threw together. How embarrassing, when you're a "professional."
WTF, i been trying to get on Food Network Challenge for a while now and this is what they put on instead, what a disgrace, who is this person, why would you do that. Was She on Blow or ACid.
Kerry Vincent is like a female Simon Cowell... she ladels out praise with a teaspoon. There is nothing wrong with being hard on people if you do it equally to everyone and she does that. I've never seen her play favorites.
Also this cake designer appears to be insane. XD I checked out her website. Woo boy!
Haha i just saw her website too and it seems that cakes have boycotted her so she's turned to decorating walls and various unlucky trees. :S The only redeeming idea I saw on there was the "lawn" made out of jellybeans.
There are plenty of men that judge all the challenges that don't act the way she does. Kerry is a successful, established and respected person in her field. But, instead of using that influence to show how women can get as much success without stooping to the viciousness of men, she, well...stoops. I want equal success and respect for women in any field, but if non-constructive cruelty is the method of getting and keeping that success...then she doesn't deserve it.
You say you want "equal success" for women but that Kerry shouldn't "stoop to the viciousness of men"-men don't hold the patent on vicious behavior, for one,and two, she's just being herself and should not have to act a certain way to please the PC crowd,in my opinion.
Kerry Vincent is a fucking bitch and she deserved every moment of this. She manages to give her comments in the most offensive, UNPROFESSIONAL manner. Just be cause her tone of VOICE in professional doesn't mean that her purposefully MEAN comments are. I think this was a cake that COMPLETELY reflects the essence of the person it was meant for.
She probably could have kept from lighting it on fire...but then again, lighting the cake on fire was the next best thing to actually lighting Kerry.
You are so far from wrong about Kerry Vincent-she has professional standards regarding quality and doesn't sugarcoat her criticisms, which would(and is)tolerated by men in the cooking world but apparently not women.
I love the fact that Stevie actually has a link to this video on her website. (Because what better way to sell her cakes than feature a video with title cards of "add some bad execution..." and "oh crap, it's getting worse" and of course the fiery finale.)
I have heard the saying that there is no such thing as bad publicity, but I think this might be pushing it.
This chick pisses me off. She doesn't give a shit about any thing, and she thinks its all a joke!! There are sooooooo many real chefs that would kill to be on a Food Network Challenge, she has the chance, and she blows it off.... just because she doesn't like the client?!?! I looked at her other work.... I don't get it.... Why is she working as a chef? Every single piece of work she does is HORRIBLE!! No talent whatsoever. As a pastry chef myself, she is insulting to every single sense I have!!
Sad that the concept did look nice, but between the horrible execution (is making sheet cakes and carving them more effort then slamming blocks onto dowel rods?)
And christ - her attitude annoys me, you may be an "artist" but food still has to be edible, and wear some damn gloves!
This was the funniest thing I've ever seen on FN. My question was why would they have Stevie on a challenge where Kerry Vincent is the mystery client? Stevie can't stand Kerry.....and her cake showed it.....but it was pretty f'ing hilarious!!
This chick considers herself a "postmodernist" who "experiments with the media." That is academic bullshit to smokescreen the obvious: 1. Disregard for the client's wishes, 2. Terrifying lack of basic culinary skill, and 3. Highly unprofessional behavior (I saw this episode and the only thing she was upset about was that she "couldn't laugh"). I wish the FN would stop inviting the circus animals to their already-too-frequent sugar/baking challenges.
And this lady is seriously crazy. Seriously. I mean, she's the POLAR OPPOSITE of Carrie Vincent. Why, WHY did they invite her to make Carrie's birthday cake??
That's what I call a "Baked Alaska", that cake truley shows how mean Carrie Vincent is when she gives out bad comment to people who do good on this show.
OK. So? ... it's a Dr. Seuss cake gone a little over the top. The fire extinguisher dusting at the end is the crowning glory. Beat THAT Betty Crocker!
Oh my god, when I saw this episode, I was wondering why the hell the judges didn't kick her outta there. The whole "cake" was so fricking awful. After it just completely baffled me when she actually said she was proud. WTF
I've seen her on a couple of challenges and I think she is horrible. The last time she was on she let her cake fall, her kitchen was horrible and while I'm sure she thought it was funny it just made me think why would anyone want a cake from her especially after saying the client is not always right. Maybe she was just ther for comic relief.
Yeah, the concept looked interesting, but then inspiration happened. Well, replace "inspiration" with "drunken ideas", and "happened" with "convinced people to set things on fire".
Why would anything make a ancient ruins cake (complete with impaled strawberry-heads), cover it with sugar and chocolate, then set it on fire? The baker gives cake decorators AND artists a bad name.
i just went to her website and i'd have to agree. she's not good at making things. her stuff kind of reminds me of gingerbread houses made by kindergarteners. i wouldn't pay money for it.
