Dear MaRia Elena Bodmann please say hello to Mara Thompson who graduated from Charles MacLay Junior High School in Pacoima California around three years before me. I am impressed with your education and career. Thanks.
Hmmm... first, what you said about how we westerners dig our heels in and scream NOOO at death. Been there done that when my mom was fading. Next, Balinese and how they feel as one is dying, one is closest to God, like when one was a baby, kind of like what Eckart tolle said in his video about death? Finally, if the Balinese believe that the body is simply a vessel to carry through life, I respectfully don't understand the need for a tooth filing ceremony post death, he/she is already gone
Good point. Balinese culture is an odd and beautiful combination of overlayed cultures and traditions. Animist, Buddhist, Hindu (more than one type) and later Muslim and Western have all left their marks. It's like a house that's been repainted many times, some of the old coats still shine through the new paint. It often doesn't make sense, the tooth filing is a good example of this IMO
Looks like I am heading to Hawaii to pick up a film festival prize I won in March, then Ticino, Switzerland in April, probably Sweden and maybe New York in the summer and we are planning a return to Bali in November....and I will film in all those places...so sure, come on along!
What a great job you did with the footage Michael!!! So happy to see this, especially with Pak Sarga and I playing in the beginning - you certainly have an eye / ear for these videos. Can't wait for the next one and can't wait for our next trip #2 the end of 2009! Love and kisses to you and Remo from maRia in sunny warm Lost Angeles
Very informative, you look like you are having a ball over there. Death is a fascinating subject and it's so refreashing to hear this take on it. Great work, can't wait for the next part

It is so beautiful to see a friendship maintained over all those years and that you both still have much in common.
Bali fascinates me. I have travelled a lot, but not been there yet - I will one day.
Enjoyed this video. Thanks to both of you!
