dont listen to ppl who dont know crap about the ps3 cycle.. 1st the 20gb and 60gb came out in 2006 and were compatible with ps2 and ps1 game.. then the 20gb and 60gb were discontinued in late 2007. Then they brought up the 80gb which was compatible with some ps2, ps1. then they come with a 2nd 80gb that was not compatible, then the 40gb and 120gb that are not compatible as well.

@AkramPropheci Not really, besides the newer phat models running cooler and cheaper to run them and that's because the chips are smaller than the 60GB. For the phat models, features has been taken out after the 60GB/ first 80GB version. But going from the phat to the slim, there is hardware differences like a newer sound chip that's better in the slim than the phat which has real surround sound decoder and has the newer HDMI spec which adds bravia sync if you are into that.

It's best to get the cheapest version then pay £45 on amazon for a 500gb hard drive then put it in and your set for life!

What games does the 80GB 1st version not play for the PS2? I havent found one that doesnt work on it yet.  You said it doesnt have 100% compatibility. Thanks for making these videos man, you're helping alot of people out there.

no they need to add another PS3 slim with backwards compatibility almost all my fav games are PS2 and i dont want 2 systems to do this suggest you can make it $350US after another price drop ill still buy it! considering the ps3 60gb on amazon new are going for 1000 dollars pisses me off

@tres311 you know, it would be cool if Sony came out with a high end version that has the PS2 playback, charge more for it and keep the prices on the current ones. If Sony did that, I would upgrade to a slim that has PS2 playback in them.

Well thats what I hated about the PS3 was that there are to many versions of them. But I don't see anything wrong with the slim models. Its only two versions and the only difference between them is the hard drive size. And for that, I'm fine with it.

I was getting private messages in my inbox people calling me stupid and all that. One thing I think its funny is how people would complain about something like this that really doesn't really matter. I only did this video as a way to let people know the difference between a first gen PS3 to a later model that got changed around. I got alot of people telling me that I have a 40GB PS3 and not a 80GB, the difference in those is the HD size and the controller you got, and thats pretty much it.

i agree there are two versions of ps3, i got two, one the premium one and the other is the later one. the internal parts are totally different, its not interchangable with the older one. cables are different in terms of width and all that..
