  • 2:21 vandalism against Islamic wear store

  • I am half-Danish and have been living in China for the past 8 years. Beijing used to be the bicycle capital here, and I myself owned a 40 year-old Flying Pigeon to get around, but in the past several years they have eliminated many bike lanes to accommodate the unexpected increase of automobiles, which are the ultimate status symbol for China's nouveau-riche. As a result, today Beijing has become the CONGESTION capital. China could learn from Danmark's example.

  • bunch of amatures....... check out the netherlands....the wold cycling capitol is amsterdam... DUMBASS

  • This man keeps ignoring the Netherlands :P

Is it only Copenhagen or is it the whole country Denmark that uses the bike?

In the Netherlands there are literally more bikes than inhabitants.. Not only in Amsterdam, but really everywhere.

  • @ptuku

I don't think it's the amount of bikes but the infrastrucktur.. if it were about the amount of bikes my guess is that any major city in china has more bikes than Denmark and Holland put together.

  • @lazymanndk If you build it, they will come.

  • @NoGo90 They sure will

  • @lazymanndk But, the Netherlands seriously has more bicycles than inhabitants... For example my family; I have a bike myself, but that's only useful around the city I live in. But for my college I have to go to another city (with the train) where I use my fathers old bike (he uses his bike to get to his office also) AND my father is planning to buy a race-bike also...

  • @ptuku That's beside the point...

I don't know anyone here in Denmark that doesn't have a bike either infact danes buys new bikes once every 3 years, but that does not make something the best..!

Like in Holland it's the entier contry that bikes or has the opportunity too. You can go around the entire contry and Biketrails.

I am just saying it's not the amount that makes something the best but the qulity that does!

  • Seems like all cities are working for implementing a good bicycle infrastructure except for Stockholm.... The right wing alliance doesn't give a crap for safety or environment...

  • after seeying this video, i changed my mind of Sydney been the best city in the world now......

  • How wonderful, I would love to visit with my recumbent trike.

  • @twogrins

Interestingly, Recumbent bikes don't see much use inside the cities, due to them sitting so low that they have a hard time seeing the trafficflow. Thus almost all bikes in copenhagen have an upright position. Mind you, you still see the odd recumbent every now and then.

  • City of Copenhagen, reports that “A decline in road safety at junctions has undoubtedly taken place after the construction of cycle tracks [separated bike lanes]”.

    - City of Copenhagen, Road and Park Department, Denmark.

  • @604commuter There are many facets to this "safety" issue. If the junction is poorly designed, then yes, separate bike lanes MAY pose a higher risk. I've biked in Cph and can tell you that all intersections (all sizes) felt safe because the design was adequate. Trickier intersections would not allow right turning for cars while bikes had the green light and vis versa. What's important is that infrastructure FEELS safe, so people will use it. That way you achieve the safety in numbers.

  • And for me as a dutchman.. Copenhagen is car city:)

  • try to cycle in Athens, Greece. It's a suicide...

  • Im seriously considering putting my own video channel on Vimeo, called "Australia, crap place for cycling".

  • @ 2:03 "we took another lane away from the cars..." I dont see that going down too well here in Adelaide, Australia. Come for the Tour Down Under but dont expect to ride your own bike through our city cause you will bet belted by a bus, car, truck or tram if you are lucky. Man and there traffic lights are in sync!! we are soooo far behind.

  • All cities need to move to low voltage electric transport and bicycle - it keep people fit and active as well as improves the quality of life in/on the streetscape. Nothing like breathing a someone's exhaust while he is idling when sitting at a patio trying to enjoy drinks with friends. I'm trying to institute these changes in ward 29 Toronto by working with residents. Toronto is near breaking with cars in the downtown core.

  • Here in the US they don't even have high speed trains. Big business wants you to buy a car or fly. I just read a story about a US town that just banned bicycles because they have casinos in town and don't want the cars and bikes conflicting. In America it's all about money.

  • I wish my city was like that. We are still car obsessed, here in Australia
