  • Just upgraded my RAM with no problems! I've never done anything like this before. Had a look at a few videos before I tackled it but yours is the best, thanks!

  • Thanks for your video, the focus is crisp and the annotated screenshots diagrams for the screws was all I needed ^^;

btw: what's your webcam model ?

  • just put 1 gb in mine thanks great tutorial, the two screws in the main board ,mine never had them, locaition 1 and 2,but 3 was there, thanks again!

  • hello,

i was wundering how many speakers the notebook has cause i only hear the music from the left sid so if you can answermy cuestion i would be pleased

  • I've got an Acer AspireOne 522. I followed the steps and managed to replace the 1gb RAM to a DDR3 1066MHz 2gb SODMM RAM...BUT when I inserted the battery and turned the unit on the monitor refused to come on. The notebook turned on but the monitor never did. What could be causing this problem? I would really appreciate someones feedback on this asap. Thanks!

  • Cheers mate, this video helped me upgrade the memory in 20 min. Now it runs very nice. Keep up the good work.

  • Great video. I would say this is the best disassembly/ memory tutorial upgrade for the aspire one.

  • yeah I hacked mine now I got 5 gig ram.. took me 4 hours to hack... but i is \-\@X0rz.

  • Lol @ "this is not a credit card" written on that card

  • thats 1 gb ram

  • thank you .. very good =)

  • Anyone know the max amount of RAM the Acer Aspire One ZG5 can hold, disregarding operating systems.

  • Thank you so much! There are a lot of other videos explaining this procedure but you're probably the best doing this! Thanks again!

  • i have a 1gb 800mhz and working :)

  • Cheers dude. Perfect!

  • Thanks! I got stuck getting the top off, but then I found your video. The credit cards worked like a charm. Works fine, and I'm hoping that Eclipse will run better with more headroom for portable Android development.

  • Thanks man! Replaced the 512mb with 1gb from ebay I got for $15. Works great,

    Cheers!

  • This is the best video for Acer Aspire One memory/hard drive upgrade. He tells you where the screws are and to keep them organized. He goes slowly and narrates each step. This is the best of all the videos I've viewed for this model ZG5.

  • Great video. I probably wouldn't have attempted this if it were not for your video. Thanks!!!

  • Thanks for the excellent tutorial! I made the upgrade using Crucial 1Gb. It took 1.5 hours. However, I did not install the RAM module well enough. You need to push it in firmly. You may hear a loud click to confirm that it's in all the way. It started up but black screen. It took about 20 minues to disassemble and adjust the RAM. After that it was fine. Amazing how much easier it becomes after the first time.

  • why didnt u just cut the hole on the bottom.? lol.! & does it support powerful processor?

  • My acer aspire one is different from this one... why is that?

  • gracias amigo, luce muy complicado, pero lo voy a intentar...

thanks friend, thats complicated, but i do it...

  • Excellent clear video - though if I had watched it before ordering my RAM I might not have bothered. Why on earth include a upgrade slot then make it so difficult to access. Now I need to pluck up the courage to have ago!

  • if you touch the tip of your screw driver to a magnet a couple times, the screws will stick to your screwdriver when it's loosed, can also stick the crews onto the crewdriver tip when you put the screws back in (helps alot with tight spots). the screwdriver is only slightly magnetised and shouldn't affect any electronic stuff.

  • @penitent2401 when i bought my desktop acer L3600 i didn't know too much about computers and vista just came out. got it cos it's small, quiet and nice looking.

what i wasn't expecting was how stupid vista proved to be, windows xp ran quiet fine on 512mb ram, so i thought with 1gb ram this would be much better (yes, it came with vista and only got 1gb ram). my acer aspire one for some reason has 2gb ram and windows xp. can i change the rams between them?

  • wow monotone extreme lol

  • mine came fro acer with 1gb ram on the board, its the aspire one zg5, so but yea i can put in another 2 gb i believe, ive only put in 1gb so a total of 2 but my buddie wo has same model as me has 3gb in his

  • lol your voice sounds like the guy who does this video called shepards mind if you dont know what im talking about look it up lol any great video

  • Thanks! I just upgrated my netbook using your video as a guide!!

  • what a royal pain in the a@$.. f@@k you very much acer..

  • how many ram slots are there Acer aspire one

  • you good. can you upgrade mines??its running fucking slow. idk if you can help but i removed a start up programs, installed the best anti virus. to it to computer shops. no one seems to figure out whats wrong. i even reboot and did recovery. any suggestions?

  • can you put more that 1gb of ram??

  • I got a problem on my aspire one just like yours, its about two vertical red lines on the center of the screen.. do you have any idea to fix it??? I think the problem is on the lcd cable, bbut I dont know how to open it up... any advice would be great

  • can u ad 2gb

  • @mcili1 thres multipal models of the aspire one, mine is the zg5 model and im running 2 gb, but my cme with 1gb on the motherboard soit all depends on which motherboard you have

  • help me please,

when i put my mastercard up and down for remove the blue part after i removed the keybord, i can't remove it!

Well..the part near the button power..(the red part that serve to close and open the acer..4.00 minutes and beyond

  • thnx for the vid but my only has one clip on the f8 key but i can lift it up???? help

  • Great vid :-) was very helpful

  • Спасибо,а я мучался,как это чудо разобрать,что бы поменять оперативку,-thank you!все очень подробно.

  • i bet it something to do with microsoft not waiting more then 3gb of ram working,so we cant get vista to run smooth,i could be wrong but i bet it is at least 1 reason, good video tho man, very nice explained ,showing all the dodgy moments people normally trip up on,kudos to you!

  • the aspire one only supports 1.5gb of ram max because of the chipset used

  • @zaperbaby yea i was more remarking on the rules they (ms) had at the time on netbooks ,but yea this model of acer aspire one can only take like 1.5gb ,oh by the way thanks for the installing video man it can in very handy ,when i installed my extra 1gb to my acer one , ;)

  • @zaperbaby so is that 1gb and 512mb sticks makes 1.5gb ?

  • @zaperbaby use vista's speed up system tool when you plug in a memory stick.

  • i have the same one......so if i replace my ram for an 1gb when i turn it on i will have 1.5????

because i try one time and when i remove my ram i saw that it was a 512 and when i put a 2 gb ram my acer couldnt go on for about 20 minutes and then when it did go on i found that have been lost the bios......

  • Well thats 32-bit Vista if you have 64-bit you can have as much as your Motherboard can support. Also what is with people thinking RAM=Performance lol

  • @n1hmrd 32 bit only supports 3 gb on any platform

  • @GrantLogan2 yea yea your right, this is true for laptops and desktops ,but ms did put some restrictions on netbook when they were first come out ,at the time, alot of this has since changed

  • ive seen those kind of acers but my acer looks different like where the key board is and the battery but it is still the aspire one...help please

  • completely unable to get the rear of the facisa to come off. done everything step by step as you have said and done. So thanks for pointing out if it doesn't come off easy I am doing it wrong... I am doing what you are showing me...

  • Another reason not to buy Acer.

  • acer aspire one dont have any heat sink?????

    wil the cpu burn up???

  • the heatsink is under the mobo , its a HSF like most laptops use

  • i have just two questions: when i open system properties it says i have .98 gb of ram on my aspireone. does this means that i can only add 512 mb to complete the 1.5 gb??? also, can you please tell me the exact kind/name of memory that i should buy. THANKS!!!

  • hooking up the keyboard ribbing was the hardest part for me. It took about a minute.

  • Superb tutorial my friend. I have just done mine after watching this. Approx 30-40 minutes from taking the battery off to testing and checking the spec. Very Good 5*

  • Can you upgrade the SSD?

  • Ay ! want cind of Acer aspire one is that ??

That keyboard almost got a fullsize enter key :O

Please.explain that for me. I want to have a more *fullsize* enter key .Greetings.Rickard

  • Your video really helped with installing my new ram. Just a few notes for people who want to try it. Be VERY careful with taking off the keyboard, it's a bitch, I know, but i was a bit rough and now one side sticks up a bit and the clips doesn't come out to keep it down anymore. Two, remember to connect your hard drive back to the motherboard. I have the SSD 8gb, so it was a bit crooked the first time i did everything and until I got it straight in, it wouldn't start / get past the BIOS.

  • Brilliant Guide.

Proved to be invaluable while upgrading my RAM on AAO to 1.5GB :)

    Many Thanks

    Rik

  • Thank you!

  • is 1536mb ram max.?

  • yep 512mb on board ram and 1024mb ddr2 sodimm = 1536mb

wish acer would have put 1gb on board ram but they didn't :( if they would have put 1gb on board you could have put 2gb ram 2048mb

  • Hello, i just installed the RAM and i when i boot the laptop i get the error: no bootable device insert boot disc and press any key. WHY? can some one please help me.

  • my guess is you unplugged the hd or ssd drive you will have to take it apart again and check the hd or ssd is connected properly.

  • It is the MotherBoard (blue cable). Be sure it`s well inserted.

  • Yes, i also had this problem, make sure the hard drive is fully in and straight! :D

  • if the aser has 1 gb ram in the netbook . That meens you can only add 512 is that true?

  • You would still need to buy a 1gb stick though, because it only has 2 slots and 1 stick is soldered on

  • thanks very helpfull

  • Thank You! used this video to install one gig! This was the best tutorial and I have seen about 4 of them

  • Its it possible to put a 2gb memory on the acer aspire one?? Why not???

  • The largest amount of memory you can install in the aspire is 1.5 GB 512mb onboard + 1gb sodimm.

The chipset used in the Aspire only supports 2 GB of RAM

if you put a 2gb stick of ram + the onboard 512 mb ram =2.5gb ram more than the chipset can handle it will not boot and they do not sell 1.5 GB RAM modules :(

Acer should have put 1gb onboard ram

that way you could use the maximum amount of ram the chipset can handle

or disable the on board 512mb if you put in a 2gb stick of ram

  • soooooooo.......if it cam with one gig theres really no point to upgrade any? also could i get a faster hdd for it, i see 5400 on alot of sites, would 7200 work?

  • not sure a 7200 rpm drive would help that much and if your going to change the drive you might as well take out the 512mb stick of ram and replace it with a 1 gb stick plus the 7200rpm drives run hotter and may over heat your acer it already gets hot with 5400rpm drives so a 7200rpm drive may be a bad idea and may overheat and kill your acer aspire 1

  • yah, mine came with the 1 gig ram, was thinking about upgrading to two, then found out you couldnt, so then thot of a faster hdd, my only con of that was battery loss but nvm that if itll make it hotter, although mine doesnt actually get hot really, but good video! very detailed

  • Thanks so much Zaperbaby, I've just successfully added a 1gb strip thanks to your instructions. Acer should be shot for making this process so hard!

You make a good point about using good screwdrivers. I made the mistake of using an old knackered one. Stripping the head on one of the case screws is one of the most frustrating things ever! I ended up spending hours with a needle file trying to ensure I could get a flat head driver in with enough torque to remove it. Not fun!

  • great video, this helps, can you link me to the video of you re-assembling?

    thanks

  • look at the Video Responses

    just above the Text Comments

  • thanks, *blush should have seen that!

  • what did you use to attach the rubber feet again?

  • I am still using the 2 way tape that was there.

you could use some 2 way tape from a hardware store if you lost or damage the tape that was there.

  • Can you recommend a brand and model for a memory stick? Whats the largest (I take it it is a 1g stick but where does that .5 more come from?) and fastest/best I can get? (seems like sticks are pretty affordable)

  • great video great tutorial

    AAA+++++

  • Q: guess how many BASICALLY?

    A: 20

  • I'm going to guess you BASICALLY have too much time on your hands.

  • thanks for this vid - will stay sober tonight and give it a go.

  • thanks for the help

  • thanks helped alot

  • this is a great video that will help me upgrade my future netbook. my question is though, why did you open it up to put in another 1gb stick of ram? (you put a 1gb stick in the previous video)

  • it was to get pictures and more video of the process of taking it apart and reassembling it again

  • i might wait now i just heard the second version of this is coming out in february. it comes with a ten inch screen and two gigs of max ram!! hopefully it will be this easy to switch out the ram...

  • yes from what I have seen at

    Acer Aspire One User Forum

it will be easy to add ram and change the hard disk

just a few screws on the bottom

I would recommend waiting for the new one unless you find a really good deal on the old model

  • The information you provide here is worthy of pay for view. I couldn't have completed my upgrade without this video and your reassembly video.

I did have a problem after install where the aspire one wouldn't recognise my wifi-connection until a 3rd reboot, don't ask me to explain that one.

Thanks once again, I've got a 1.5gig Aspire One now!

  • Ooooh. Nevermind. Lawl. I just finished teh video. Very nice. ;] Thanks, dude. *Favorited*

  • So... The most you can have in one of these is 1.5gb of RAM? Uhmm... So if I get a 1GB AAO, I could only install a 512mb card and nothing else? Thanks in advance. ;]

  • I slid mine out and to the left without taking out the audio board, on the top left hand corner, there's that little black clip, once you clear that, it all comes up and out, I left the hard drive attached. Damn, should have made a video, maybe when I'm doing my wifes, great video!

  • Hi, I've got the 512meg version and I've got a spare 512meg stick, could I add that and have a gig total?

  • yes as long as it is ddr2 200pin sodimm but you might want to just buy a 1 gb stick for a total 1.5gb as if you decide you need more ram later you will have to take it apart again

adding an extra 512mb for a total 1gb would help a lot with windows or linux and you already have a extra 512mb stick it will cost nothing

accept your time taking it apart remember your screw driver has to fit the screws well or they will strip out

    good luck with upgrade

  • Cool dude, I might as well go with a 1gb upgrade if I'm going to all that hassle.

    Thanks for the advice.

  • Another happy customer! i just finished putting the ram in my aa1 your vid gave me the confidence to do so, i rounded 2 screw heads pretty bad, and the last one i came to on the little board i rounded so bad i could not get it out! i had to just pull the mother board up and to the left and try to shimmy the hd out ennough to get to the ram, lol thanks m8! great vid!

  • yah some of the screws are a pain to take out like I said in the video make sure your screw driver fits the screws perfect or really well

when I did mine I didn't damage any screws

  • Thank you very much for the how to video. It helped me a lot and made it much easier. It went off w/o a hitch. One tip instead of a plate to hold the screws I turned some masking tape so the stick side was up and stuck the screws in the pattern they were removed with an note where they came from.

    Cheers,

    Peaty

  • Hi, I bought an 800MHz 1GB 200 pin DDR2 memory stick for this laptop. Does it support 800MHz memory, and will there be any difference compared to the slower 667MHz memory?

  • excellent and complete video, i used to woork for dell tech support and know that is really difficult to open a laptop my this video makes it look easy, thanks for the tutorial about acer mini, i have two had a hard time upgrading the memory when i got the fisrt one, lol

  • I just set down my tools after following this excellent guide with success on the first try! I have Model 110-1955, with no HDD, so I saved the step of removing the daughterboard and the old memory. My motherboard wouldn't come out until I removed the SD card in the left slot ... :o ... Fantastic clear guide. Thanks!

  • Decent Information but I was distracted by the way overuse of the word "basically" its not basically...it IS what you do. damn

  • Thanks a lot for this video. I was at first hesitant to install extra RAM, but your detailed videos gave me the confidence I needed to succeed.

  • Excellent video, very detailed. My Acer aspire one comes with two 512MB memory cards. So you don't think the extra 512MB will improve much if I replace one of the cards with a 1G?

  • so if I have a 512 mb model i can grab a 1gb and install for a final amount of 1.5 gb?

  • yes that's what I did my acer came with 512mb added a 1gb stick for a total of 1.5gb

if your acer has 1gb already there wouldn't

be much point of adding ram cause you will have to remove 512mb stick replace it with a 1gb stick not sure how much an extra 512mb would help with performance

Acer will void your warranty if they find you damaged the netbook well trying to add ram

anyway be careful well adding ram

also if you do go through warranty remove the ram when you send it in for repair

  • thanks'

i did cut one of the front feet down a bit because it was wobbly.

hopefully it will last a long time; ive had it since October

  • Awesome job on the video it will be of great help once my hard drive and ram get here

  • excellent thorough video. u are the man. Any advice on upgrading the wireless card? i have a sony vaio and i get VERY GOOD connection or EXCELLENT when my AAO gets very low or low. my quick fix is to just purchase a sprint card, but i hate having stuff hang out of the usb ports. THANKS

  • here's an idea that may help if the problem is

when you're on battery power internet is really slow/bad connection

Click Start > Right Click My Computer > Click Properties > Hardware > Device Manager.

Now double click on Network Adapters. Double Click on the Atheros Wireless Adapter. Click Advanced. Now click Power Save Mode. The setting is probably set to Max. Switch to Off. Click Ok.

Now your Internet should work flawlessly on battery power but you may lose 10-15min of battery life

  • This video does a great job of showing how to remove the keyboard and how to unlatch and unplug the various connectors, things I still didn't fully understand how to do. My 512MB Aspire One should arrive soon and I plan on adding 1GB of RAM to it since it's so cheap. Why Acer didn't make it easier to upgrade the RAM by providing a door under the unit is a complete mystery, maybe they want people to pay a premium for the 1GB version instead of getting the cheaper version and upgrade themselves...

  • it will definitely void your warranty that's for sure and if you already have

the memory installed and it's working properly there is

not much of a point to cutting an extra hole

when my warranties up I'm thinking of changing the fan in mine as it has an annoying

and possibly drilling and a bunch of small holes for better ventilation and cooling

  • originally the Acer aspire one was going to come with a 3G adapter and the ability to put a 3G Sim card in the laptop for mobile Internet

in that empty slot was an extra mini PCI express slot that the 3G adapter would have been installed in

I'm not sure why they removed it but

that's why there's a door on the bottom of the laptop

  • Another good video.. The next mod that needs to be done is some sort of fan mod with a better fan and/or a better fan duct or fan mount. The fan in this thing needs to be less noisy!

  • The Aspire One looks like a good netbook... I wish Acer would have made upgrading this device a little easier. I think I will be purchasing the Dell Inspiron Mini 9. Only 2 screws hold in the back panel to upgrade the RAM and SSD. Great video tho!
