I can think of bands this sounded more like than Depeche Mode, such as Information Society or Camouflage. But this was just the dominate sound then and it's a bit unfair, demoting term like "copy". If that was true, every artist in a trend is a copy, even if they were one of the determining leaders (to those who hear it this far in the future and/or forgot or never knew the innovators from the Johnny-come-lately's).
