Jim O' Brien was THE GUY. I am tears now remembering him. He was so funny. My grandfather, father and I only watched channel 6 in Phila - and he was a HUGE reason why. I remember being in 9th grade when he died at Charles Boehm H.S. in Pennsbury School District. Many of us couldn't understand how he could be dead. I am trying to share with my husband (from Boston) how amazing Jim was and can't find video of a regular broadcast here. Love to all Philadelphians here. XO LB
To you too! I remember when he passed as well. I couldnt believe it....he was such a fun guy with a great personality..the guy was well admired. Our family as well as many, watched Ch.6 and were stunned of his passing. I look back now and cannot believe it has been over 25yrs. Seems like yesterday. Go Philly! God Bless to you and yours..
Jim O'Brien was so cool. I would love to see video of him too doing his weather. He was the best part of the news. I still watch Action News, it's still the best on TV.
I Believe This Was A Audio Clip Of WPVI-TV's Channel 6 Action News At 5 Promo For Friday Evening, August 8, 1980.

I was 11 in 1983, but remember watching that episode of Action News where the entire crew was pouring their eyes out when O'Brien passed away.
Just as an aside, the old channel 48 WKBS TV went out of business a month earlier.

Hey I remember that! He died in a Skydiving accident. My sixth grade teacher at the time informed us in the middle of class.

I agree with everyone. Jim O'Brien is a legend in Philly. We need more videos of him.
He has never come close to being replaced. What a great personality he had! I still
love Action News and they are all great - but
let's fact it - he was Elvis!

I agree.
Need to see more videos of Jim Obrien by far the best who was in the business.
The man was funny.
I remember he did in the country of three famous city areas so fast.
He will always be missed.

Too bad I was too young to remember Jim O' Brien. I was nearly 2 years old when he died in 1983.
