This form of push hands is Yi Chuan in which one person begins by moving the other person in a predictable circular path and then at any given moment that path is changed by the use of intention with no physical signals, throwing the other person off balance. This is achieved purely by yi, the mind.
This is interesting - I've not seen push hands done in this way (push shoulders?). Can anyone answer a question for me? In each case, Master Yang Fukui has his arms on the inside of the other person's arms which would undoubtedly give him more leverage and control. I assume that in training one would swap with their partner so each has a go inside? Is it ever done with one arm in, one arm out?
