  • every video thus far was great i got to this one & got stuck. when i get to adb push su.zip/sdcard/ part it drops this long code & explanation (basically saying it wont let me put it on the sdcard) also when im in device manager when i open portable devices it come up as Galaxy nexus and when i go to update driver software it stays as MTP Device even if i do it manually. so my 2 questions are Can i put it on my SDCard manually if so how & how am i to get rid of this MTP & work with ADB instead

  • @KayJayTeee turn on usb debugging and then transfer the su file over.. then you'll need to get CWM on the phone again and install the zip

  • @qbking77 scratch that .. i cant follow instructions apparently ... great tutorials

  • SOMEONE please answer me, what does rooting do ?

  • @superjjskate Just google it.. mainly free wifi hotspot

  • Big Thank you Qbking great job on the remote Root really apreciated

  • would i get free thedering for free ?

  • @amisaeln yes

  • Awesome video. Followed along with the Droid-Life instructions as well but the video made me comfortable enough to do it. Thanks!

  • will you be posting a video on how to unroot this phone?

  • @RThompson313 I didn't plan to.. would you like one? It'd be tough since I dont have the device

  • @qbking77 no it's not really needed at this time. I just rooted this phone, and plan on leaving this way for a while. By the way thanks for posting the informative videos... keep the tutorials and rom reviews coming.

  • IS it possible to flash it to Pageplus ?

  • excellent, you are the greatest!

  • QBKing77, I followed the instructions for rooting the Gnex (CDMA) and everything seemed to go well. Bootloader is unlocked, SU installed along with CWMod; however, I now cannot get access to the bootloader or recovery through CWmod or holding down vol rocker and pwr button. I would like to flash a custom rom CM9.0.0. Is it possible to flash it through the command prompt? The bootloader shows the android robot with a red triangle and a " ! " in the center of it. Thoughts & thanks in advance.

  • @viper19xx That makes sense... my rooting method only installed a temporary clockworkmod. Go to the link, and at the bottom it tells you how to install permanent CWM so you can flash roms!

  • does it have to be verizon? PLEASE REPLY!!!!!!!

  • @thagdabobo Unfortunately, i'm not sure.

  • This is working for the GSM phone too, right?

  • @SjooSandstrom I'm not too sure to be honest.

  • after i do the step @ 3:52 it just shows "waiting for device" and then doesn't go anywhere else

  • @charliexiong You sure you have drivers installed?

  • @qbking77 I uninstalled and re-installed the drivers and it said everything was good when I plugged my phone in.

  • @charliexiong You have to manually install the drivers.. it can be tricky

  • @qbking77 Done. Thanks! You freakin' rock bro.

  • @charliexiong Awesome! Glad you got it :)

  • i'm stuck

  • I followed both of your videos on how to get bootloader and now rooting, and have to say that these helped a lot! Thank you very much.

  • Hi All, I've been having some problems with the last step using ROM manager.

I bought the Galaxy Nexus but didnt register it with the service provider so no 3g/4g service, its just a phone at this point. I went ahead and successfully rooted it but after the final reboot, I was able to connect to Wi-Fi and then the connection disappeared. Wi-Fi is on, but the triangle at the top is greyed out. Any Suggestions?

  • Edit: not enough room. So i tried to download ROM Manager, couldnt because of no internet. So i downloaded the .apk file and sent it to the phone but it wont let me flash clockworkmod recovery because i dont have any internet access whatsoever!

    Thanks in advance!

  • @nickp4310 Try rebooting

  • @qbking77 hard reboot? and will i need to go through the root process again?

  • @nickp4310 No, just reboot the phone... toggle wifi, toggle airplane mode

  • @qbking77 Thanks a lot, the problem was solved. Any thoughts on why the phone would randomly turn off wifi? The signal here is very low, perhaps it keeps losing signal and i'm having to reconnect again?

  • @nickp4310 Go to your wifi settings, and go to your advanced settings and check the setting for screen turn off. Sometimes it shuts off wifi when the screens off.

  • Worked like a charm. Quickest root method on any phone I've owned or rooted by far. Thanks a lot!

  • @Steezmatic420 You are very welcome :)

  • do you know how to Upgrade a GSM galaxy nexus to ICS 4.0.2? it's unlocked and rooted thanks to your videos

  • @jmspence143 No I'm not too familiar with that unfortunately.

  • After i send in the "adb push su.zip..." i get a error" device not found error....any idea what to do?

    i am already unlocked

  • @joebushrod1 Re install drivers

  • @qbking77 thanks for the help

  • You state that doing what you video shows installs a temporary version of Clockworkmod. Does this mean that if i rebooted my phone, that i would be back to a stock version being unrooted?

  • @RBTroN84 You will have stock recovery again, but you will still be rooted.

  • @qbking77 Thanks again for the help. However if you dont mind i have one last question. I want to keep my stock OS bcuz im waiting for the official 4.0.3 OTA as well as the finished CynaogenMod. If i root and flash Clockworkmod, then when the OTA comes, will i be able to reboot and update with stock recovery? Also, if for some reason i am not able to update due to root, and since i would have rebooted and lost Clockworkmod, how would i unroot to receive the update? Thanks again.

  • @RBTroN84 It might work, it might not... It depends on how the update package is sent out.

  • Every time after I restart in recovery to choose install from zip, I get a droid robot with a red triangle and exclamation point. The only way I know to get out of it is to pull the battery. Any suggestions?

  • @bwsarge3 Yes, press the power and vol buttons until recovery pops up.... then wipe data/factory reset.

  • can you make a video showing how o unroot?

  • Thanks for the video. Awesome! btw, I'm using activeSync for exchange mail and the exchange server's policy is disableing "pattern", "slide", "face unlocking". Is there a way to bypass the activesync policy so i'm not restricted to the way I unlock my phone?

    Thanks!

  • @httonline I'm sure a developer will come up with a modification in a rom.. but there is none right now that i know of.

  • First off thank you for the videos they've helped me a lot. With that said, i just unlocked my bootloader and resetup my phone again. If i go ahead and root it will it rewipe everything or will it just be the same just rooted? Also, will i still be able to reveice OTA updates if im rooted? Droid life stated that OTA updates shouldn't be an issue if you're just unlocked. I'm asking because i still want to hold of until more stable roms are released.

  • @Mrlolibre Rooting doesn't wipe anything.. just unlocking the bootloader does. As long as you dont remove system apps you should be able to accept OTA updates.... it may unroot your phone if you accept one.

  • great video! Do we need to unzip the su.zip file? mine shows up in my downloads folder with a stack of books icon and named su.zip. I noticed yours has a folder icon named su.zip and then when you cut back to it it is a stack of books and named just su (without the .zip). Will I be okay w/ the unzipped su.zip (stack of books icon)? Thanks!

  • @scott62180 Nope, no unizpping needed!

  • @qbking77 wow, thanks for the quick reply!

  • nice video worked for me using a verizon galaxy nexus with 4.0.2

  • how do you root a nexus 3g running official stock ics ?

  • @platinito101 I dont know if there's a way yet.

  • @qbking77 thanks for the fast reply :) and ok well if you find out anything please make a video :)

  • I was kinda freaking out because I wasn't seeing anything in the SD card thinger, but i realized that I was disabling "back button" or something? by pressing both up and down volume keys? Idk what it was...but yea. it worked great. THANKYOU!!! :D :D :D

  • @NotSoSiniSter You are very welcome!

  • which ics rom do you have on your nexus 4g?? do you have a custom kernel ?

  • @ngxxx174 goto XDA and search for the FRANCO kernel, it was built by a kernel developer who worked on the kernel for the Galaxy S.

  • Because for just a second I thought you had it. And that was enough. Hahaha

  • I hate you so much right now.

  • @daRKiERAWR Why????

  • Thanks qb you always have the best instructions. You've helped me so much with my epic 4g touch. Again thanks for your time and effort.

  • great video cant wait to do it to my nexus .....
