  • LIGHT BULB TAX

While still unwarranted, efficiency based tax is better than bans - for all sides.

    Why?

It gives significant government income on reduced sales (currently 2 billion bulbs per year) while people keep a choice - and efficient products can have less tax than today.

It might sound good to 'ban inefficient products'

But light bulbs, cars, buildings, dishwashers etc that use more energy have performance, appearance, construction and/or price advantages as shown on Ceolas Net

    .

  • Senator Dorgan, I am writing unfortunately with slight contempt for the things you are saying. I apologise for this but the technology for the World to have a sustainable fuel source has been around nearly 150 years with the invention of steam electricity (byron energy) and tesla based energies yet the government has made sure the people dont get them because they can't sell it. If this world has these 2 technologies in place there would be no drought or famine ever...

  • Dear Senator Dorgan

I would like to see time of use billing for electricity. I would like meters to be real time capable to allow individual to easily monitor there electricity consumption.

When people can monitor there energy consumption we can expect to see a 5 to 15% reduction. Furthermore, Time of Use billing would give people an incentive to wait until non peak hours to dry their laundry. Time of Use billing would also promote "Smart Grid" appliances.

    Thanks for reading.

  • I suggest either more foreign oil... Or more war.

... Or what would be way more logical! More research on Hydrogen power.

  • he and the obama regime just want to enrich their green buddies in the same way the bush boys wanted to enrich the oil fatcats.

  • Replace all government vehicle fleets to use natural gas extracted from USA!!

    Picken's Plan has it all!

  • We got into this mess because of the DC (District of Corruption). No its not the people or even the elected ones. Its the drug of power that contaminate the air and water. Like all addictions the first step is admitting there is a problem. We as a people and a nation are addicted to "cheap" as in below the true cost of producing energy, water, consumer goods ... And politicians are addicted to the power of the allusion that government can magically make it (cheap, safe, easy ...) happen.

  • sure; BAKKEN FORMATTI, WANNA STIMUL8 economy? USE HALF THE BRAIN YOU WERE BORN WITH AND DRILL HERE, 10K + JOBS KNOCK THE PRICE DOWN, WE'VE made hho in our backyard and went from 10mpg-30mpg in 4500 f-150 4wd in a half day, any-1 w/ a wee bit-o-common sense knows: DO-ALL-AVENUES!!!!! WAKE-UP!!!

  • hey did you know that we have the know how to make our fuel go further, NO? just surf the minds of the net and you will see people are smarter than congress.

  • how about no energy bill? (the federal government) You have no constitutional authority to do anything for energy. The best policy is allow the free-market to drive down the price of energy (and when oil prices increase, the free-market WILL drive down the price of alternative fuels as the price of oil increases). Its legal, and it will not infringe upon anyone's freedom (as any federal law will)

  • You speak the truth here.

  • The constitution does it give the government the authority to subsidize the market. The constitution's purpose is to limit the power of the federal government. Who determines these morals? I could argue it is immoral to steal. Just because it is a government entity doing the stealing and not an individual does not justify it. "Greed" is the best system humans have so far discovered. Spend some time watching Milton Freedman's videos, he makes a good argument.

  • good arguments dont change facts. the hope is: the government should fear her people the fact is: the government rules by fear. fear of the unknown, fear of war, any fear they can dream up. anger is a great tool used by them too just look at 9/11 an orchestrated plan, to garner approval, by playing on the emotions of an entire country. oil is done. simple as that. greed will soon come in another form. look out for the subsidizing of renewable energy sources, after the amero hits the scene
  • North Dakota is sitting on one of the largest oil finds in the United States. How about we support the cost effective energy we have here at home. We need to be realistic about the transition process. Renewables should continue to be researched, but unsubsidized the cheapest noncarbon energy costs six times as much. Citizens can't seem to make the connection between paying at the pump directly or paying taxes for subsidies indirectly. Support domestic oil along with renewables.

  • Nuclear, nuclear, nuclear. It's proven, it's effective, it's cheap, it's non-polluting. The only downside is the waste produced, and storing that takes only political will (there's even a site built in Nevada made for nuclear waste storage just waiting to be used). The USA should, no MUST, expand its nuclear energy program if it wants to move forward and leave oil dependency behind.

  • oh boy. well you just put your foot in your mouth.

while it is true that we could put all the pollution in the united states out of nucear silos into a plot the size of a football field, many fail to really grasp what this MEANS.

there is NOTHING CLEAN aBOUT NUCEAR ENERGY! the waste it produces CANNOT in the next 1000 years be disposed of!

and the nevada site is sitting on FISSURES, so you know, fissure that sit on EARTHQUAKE fault lines that run clear to california.

i hope no one is listening

  • the french have nuclear power since the 70's and recylcle most of the nucleur waste. The volume of the ultimate high-level waste was indeed very small: the contribution of a family of four using electricity for 100 years is 5 glass cylinders the size of a cigarette lighter. the french put the waste in "stocking centers" they don't just bury it. the idea is for them to experiment.... it can always be accessed for hopefully scientist a 100 years down the road who can figure out how to use it.

  • Cold Fusion.

  • Also, keep the greedy morons from infecting the politics with their Kapos, the lobbying of big oil GET THEIR MOMENTUM AGAINST CHANGE OUT OF THE PROCESS. Same message for all the other problems, because same problem. Corporations aren't US citizens and have shown they are incapable of operating in the public interest too many times.

  • Let the states take care of it. It will happen faster and cheaper. Take all the money in the budget for it, and give it to the states (or pay down the debt).

  • Replace and modify our entire infrastructure.

  • How about this idea.

Stay out of the energy market lest you implode it like the housing market.

  • How about this idea.

Stay the hell out of the energy market before you implode it like the housing market.

  • Currently in this country there 105,000 + k-12 schools (American School Directory). The average school is 150,000 200,000 ft2. One school building during the School year could cost $28,112.67 per month and about $10, 000 during the summer months (Safstrom, 2009) to turn on the lights every day. 200,000 Ft2 building has 22222.21 (M2) that is an average of 333.300Kw of Maintenance free power for thirty years. That would be a saving to the school system $ 3333 a month.

  • PLEASE watch our channel!! We're really good and we want to sing for everyone! :D

  • As a senator for N dakota you should know about the oil boom in your state as well as S dakota

So get off your ass and support drilling for oil bakken deposit, off shore, Anwar, Oil shale.

drill here drill now and stop sending your money to other countries.

as for alt engery give me a break more than 50% powe comes from coal.

JUST TO LIGHT NEW YORK CITY WITH SOLAR YOU WOULD HAVE TO COVER CONN. WITH PANELS YOU REALLY THINK THATS A GOOD IDEA?????

  • open up dirlling for oil. Anwar, OIL shale, off shore, bakkan deposit, 3 trillion bbls.

ban carbon tax its for fools. unless you want half the country covered in wind mills and solar panels grow up they will never work.

  • 1) Tax wasteful energy spenders - make a low-consuming dishwasher cheaper than a high-consuming ditto.

    2) Make it legal to hang out your clothes to dry all over the countries. (That is free).

    3) Invest heavily in RandD on ways of storing energy and things like wawe-energy.

    4) Think about ways of graduating electricity prices so prices go down, when the wind blows. The really nifty new solution would be the possibility to program your household items to work, when the price goes down.

  • First of all we don't need government intervention in energy independence. When the price of oil gets too high to go anywhere or heat your home people will start looking into other alternatives.

Second of all, how is it the government's responsibility to propose legislature that would give taxpayer dollars to businesses that don't use oil. We are 10 trillion in debt! Nuf said.

My advice? Kill this legislation. It's unnecessary and there are more important things like bringing the troops home!
