  • They all needed each other to be The Doors, together an orgasm without one the magic was gone, Iggy couldn't pull on Jims Big Smelly boots, sorry but.....

  • Iggy Pop was considered for the frontman spot,to replace Morrison.I like the fact that they kept going, and musically this is very solid.Since Jim didn't play a instrument, musically anything they came up with had they lived would have been very similiar to this anyway,in my opinion.

  • If Ray were to have never been affiliated with The Doors or Jim and sing in his own band you would all probably like it.

  • Ray Manzarek doesn't sound too bad, here. I like this album. :D

  • needs few good screems there and there ;)

  • JIM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Don't cry Morrison....We'll never forget you!

  • The songs aren't half bad, really, and the familiar Doors sound is there, but Kreiger and Manzarek can't sing all that well. I almost wish they would have just hired a rent-a-singer with a killer rock and roll voice. On the other hand, it's kind of cool that they didn't.

  • Does anyone know if this song was in a game soundtrack or a film? I've heard this song before not knowing it was The Doors.

  • I want to like it but fuck.I can't !!!!! Never could, need a real poet. In a world full of Morrison want to bee's this is what they came up with.

  • @mc3monday fuckin hater, doors are the doors regardless

  • See alot of comments about it missing Jim. Well, cmon, musically its missing the Doors! This Sucks! Ray needs to stfu and play his keboard, he dummied the whole song down even the parts where he isnt singing. Really self indulging if you ask me.

  • How about using their current singer on this track?

  • not crazy about the vocals .. it just doesn't fit with the song.

  • real musicians

  • it's not the same without James , he's just the king the LIZARD KING

  • I randomly clicked this song on my playlist and I was like man this is a great song, I noticed the vocals were a bit off so when I saw the album title "Other Voices", I said to myself wow this guy did a pretty damn good job trying to replicate Mr. Mojo Risin, something of an impossible feat.

  • Someone tell me if I can get hold of (Doug Lubahns?) bass tab please?..Sorry can't wait, will look on internet myself..thanks anyway..They's soooo cool!!..The Doors live on!!!!..(Nice one too Ray,I know you wrote the bass lines)

  • @bluebow68 Doug was only on 1967's The Doors, Strange Days and 1968's Waiting for the Sun. After, on 69's Soft Parade is was Ray Neopolatiano. Morrison Hotel was Ray Neopolatiano and Lonnie Mack. 71's LA Woman and 72's Other Voices and 73's Full Circle was JERRY SCHEFF. The Doors, after LA Woman were set to add Jerry as their official bassist. But Jim left for Paris and soon died, so plans fell through.....(Doors buff). Cant really help you with tabs, but Im pretty sure its just a 12 bar blues.

  • @theoriginalMaxman2 Thank you ,,,maxman!! So kind of you to respond!! B/W..('The Doors, will never close..' !!)..i said that..;-)

  • i tihnk ray had a really cool voice, he could ahve probobly started his own band, it would ahve been good. he woudl on occasion have to sing wheile jim was alive... when they toured in europe with jefferson airplane, jim passes out on stage, so ray faked jims voice so it made it look like jim was singing laying down

  • The Doors were never the same without Jim.

  • Imagine if they had still had Morrison for this song. It would have been great. As it is it's still very good.

  • @gryphonlaments yeah i agree, just imagine jims gravely booming la woman blues type voice. It would really suit this song

  • @TheKenney81 seems like hes trying to replicate that sound, hes doing good but hes no jim

  • Wow, thanks for posting this, I was wondering what the non-Jim stuff sounded like.

  • Even without Morrison they sound better then half bands of the 60`s and 70`s.

  • I rate this song forgetting that these are the remaining Doors. As a new band without the Doors reputation bestowed by Morrison's departure of Earth, this song KICKS ASS. F*cking jam here man. Blues man. Great album in general.

  • Pretty good still. There is a gaping hole where Jim used to be. But the music is still impressive.

  • This is good Ray! Thanks for the posting of this .

  • This actually isn't too bad. It's definitely got a good vibe to it.

The Doors were still perfectly capable without Jim, they just should have changed the name. The Doors were born from Jim and Ray, and without either one, there is no Doors. I think the album would have done better had they changed the name. That's just personal opinion of course.

  • I dont know why everyones so suprised that they can produce without without jim. All the years of playing live with Jim made them great. and Ray can sing blues well, but Jim was captivating.

  • I dig this rip!

  • This actually aint bad.

  • Other Voices is actually fairly easy to find on vinyl even now...hell, so is Full Circle, for that matter. Thing is, apart from minor classics like this song, they're not worth listening to. For proof, try to listen to Down On The Farm or Variety Is The Spice Of Life without wanting to tear your own head off. Can't be done. Terrible songs.

  • oh well

  • omg ya cant hardly find this record anywhere this is rare as shit

  • This is still rockin' though! All respect to Jimmy.

  • Love this song, took me a long time to realize that it wasnt Jimbo singin, idk why haha

  • there not trying to replace jim morrison. they are just trying to keep the band going

  • The Orphans

  • sun of uruguay? 4:30

    =)

  • Should of stopped after Jim Died, they all knew it wouldn't be the same anyways.

  • i wanna fuck rays chin

  • yeah Ray the best mine, I love that blonde organist

  • Ray Robbie and john have to be the coolest guys over 60 on this planet.AND STILL FUCKIN' ROCKING.The three best musicians in one group ever.

  • Jimmy was the soul of the band!

  • I think a lot of casual fans only noticed Jim. He was like the face of The Doors all the girls loved him and he always did crazy things at concerts. Jim had a strong voice and a lot of his poetry always amazes me. Still I think people needed to notice the work that Robby Krieger, Ray Manzarek, and John Densmore contributed. They are all excellent musicians that combined to make a great band that people still love today.

  • @musicftw783 Morrison and the Doors were dependent on one another for the career they shared. Something about Jim sucks a person in, and it seems the band knew that and put him up front for that purpose.

It's good that they didn't stop when Jim died. There was still music to be made.

  • the doors...thank you for changing my life!!!

  • If those days come back...better times !

  • Always we're more than stupid listeners

  • probably one of the better tunes without Morrison vocals

    for the Doors

    also Tightrope Ride

    other than those DA NADA

  • the doors without jim. i surely dont think so

  • I love Jim to death, in fact, I celebrate "Morrimas Eve" the day before his Birthday.

However, people to overlook the rest of the members of The Doors. This is a perfect example of how great of musicians he had backing him. Robbie was a pioneer of the slide, Densmore was a solid blues drummer, and Manzarek didn't only play stellar lead Organ parts but kept a steady bass as well. All of you should check out "Golden Scarab" by Manzarek if you haven't yet.

  • @21stCentSchizoidFan Very Well said! You are right about Robbie Ray and John; Great musicians in there own right, btw, the Scarab CD sure takes me back- great stuff!

  • i love this song!! 8)

  • I love Ray's vocals like Jim Morrison and Paul mccartney voices put together

  • @residentevlidead DUDE.d

  • pretty coo ray

    thats the way

  • Moraisito - The best...

  • I bought this bootleg (Other Voices/Full Cricle) on a Doors Concert here in Mexico 3 years ago and got fucked up haha, I'm still so pissed off because I love this two albums!!! and where the hell!!! can I get those again!?

  • @GOORVY Contactame, podemos hacer algun cambalache. Saludos!

  • They should of stopped after this album (other voices) as it's pretty good, however Full Circle was just awful and sounded like a completely diffrent band

  • Comment removed

  • fuckin love this song

  • The spirit of the The Doors is BEAUTIFUL!!! Not crazy; but frick, greed would have only kept them going as The Doors. Jim got PISSED at the car commercial thing. He would have "flipped" if The Doors continued without him. To me anyway.. Not trying to be a buckethead.

  • The reason we love the doors is becauae of the mind bending music ray manzarek wrote , you need a good composer to make a good band Ray was the doors

  • Im sorry but there is NO DOORS without JIM MORRISON!

  • Why we don't Love this? We know the Doors WITH jim morrison, so this is not superb anymore

  • Yeah not bad at all.definetly would buy this if i seen it.But The doors without Jim is like an alcohol free beer. Its just not the same. Its The doors that shaped my late teens and the crazy things I done and the trouble I caused were The doors of the begining.....If ya get my meening.

  • para mi es exelente esta cancion en boca de ray la neta vivan los doors yea atte el tri de cuautttlan izcalli

  • His voice sounds a bit like Mick Jagger's

  • Love the Doors for ever !

  • sounds like the stones

  • This is fucking great!

  • this is cool funky song can i get this on cd or did never get made on cd inbox me

  • he not as good as jimm

  • This song is beyond awesome! :-)

  • I've made few writiing mistakes there, I can see. Ok; I was at Morrison's foot steps and took some scotsch..and few more. But where was I? Yes! I agree to you ALL dudes! Remember to listen birds' singing too at summertime.

  • I guess I need spanking, but I have liked Ray's voice...Cause it's maybe like more like relaxed and freely intellectual than Jim's drug affected pushed singing at his lates. After all; what u want? A Jesus to gather to dressert rising ur hands to space where everything goes further, or a man to take u to sitting at sunset enjoying burritos and beer w some smooth beer? Or both?

  • @LukasFin dude,... if you even like the doors then you would appreciate THE SOUL in his music... he was a shaman poet... his poetry was expressed with so many emotions(music aswell) and if you probably knew more about the dorrs's albums like waiting for the sun then you would hear jim's voice isnt fucked up like you think -.- .... also on the soft parade and strange days... so get ur facts straight. mainly pointing to the fact that jim morrisons voice isnt drugged or pushed

  • I'm getting sick and tired of people taking sides on this. The Doors were great, even without Jim, but definitely not as captivating. I like Other Voices and Full Circle, but it's not The Doors, you know. It's The other Doors. It would be the same if Ray, or Robby, or John died instead of Morrison.

  • I like that they try to sing like Morrison. These songs were intended to be on a new Doors album with Morrison.

  • I love Ray

  • This is the part where Jim Morrison died and they started sounding like Iron Butterfly and The Fuzztones!

Good record, if you like that style of music!

    :-)

  • haha it would have been funny to be around while they are mixing this album and realizing what a disaster it is without yimbo.

  • hey this is pretty good but i wouldnt know if this was the doors simply because it doesnt have jim in it but its really nice sounds funky

  • Great example of the Doors musical sound ! I actually like Ray's vocal style, and wish he had featured more with Jim. Robbie's guitar work remains unique and cool !!

  • Hey all fupdup or whatever the hell your name is: Read about The Doors before talking shit! What do you expect them to do? Curl up and die when Jim did? I love Jim, but The Doors did have a hand in being The Doors too you dumbass

  • they are fine but without jim they have no greatness or magic

  • people are strange...lead man dies and all is forgotten

  • Who? Where? What??? Who forgot anything dude? I love this band since I was 7 years old and my old man brought tapes with their music. I would have loved them from a smaller age but we had communism and this stuff was forbidden in my country.

Great song! Loved it from the first day I heard it.

  • My opinion is, that this is little masterpiece. And Ray replaces Morrison more than well. Why the hell they didnt go on? Enough money? "Jesus" died and the glory went down? Great musicians!

  • The band said that after Jim passed away, the offers to continue with the band were so much. So they decided to carry on with The Doors.

But the impact of their albums was minimal (anyways, Other Voices was in the number 31 on the charts), the audience of the concerts was few, but the principal reason was that Ray's son Pablo was coming, so he decided to get a new life as a great dad.

When I was with Ray (if u saw my video), I was trying to ask if they can play SHIP W/ SAILS, but I failed :D

  • @Mae77 in my opinion Jim Morrison only died cuz god needed some vocal lessons

  • @Mae77 True ,,and this is a a great musical exp....but , hey man, the jimbo/60's thing was encapsulatid by then.......not really....every bit as good as anything....at least for us who were there.

  • @LukasFin they did not go on because they bombed when Jim dies. In other words their record company dropped them because there was no comparison between Ray`s voice and Jims. Ray cant sing for shit.

  • @LukasFin

Of course they're great musicians, but there's a reason Led Zeppelin doesn't re-unite, and that's because all four members worked as a cohesive unit. The Grateful Dead went on as "The Other Ones," after Jerry Garcia died, and eventually just "The Dead." It really should've been the same with The Doors.

  • @LukasFin There is no comparison between "Screamin' Ray Daniels" and Jim Morrison's rich baritone voice and song writing ability. Each person contributed an irreplaceable part to the Doors. Once Morrison was gone so was the chemistry. The band could not sustain itself. "Tightrope Ride" comes the closest to the energy that the band felt together toward Morrison's existential legacy.

  • @LukasFin

I guess this is one of the better songs without jim........but i am curious to hear it with jim singing....can really imagine it...........but most of the stuff after jim passed really aint very well imho.

  • @LukasFin It weas best with Jimmy, but David Manzeric is also a good singer.

They actually are back with another singer, the band is called "D21C" for "Doors of the 21st Century."

  • This is not bad but Jim Morrison just cant be replaced

  • @mmmmmmaaaaaxxxxxx Jim Morrison was never replaced. Lol

  • @mmmmmmaaaaaxxxxxx Ray is the only who can, the ONLY!! haha no others!!!

  • @mmmmmmaaaaaxxxxxx they werent trying to replace him

  • simplemente lo mas grande

  • Now I know where World Party got "Ship of Fools" from.

  • @swami1 Ship of Fools is another Doors song also.

  • this is a good song, imagine jim singing this would be awesome.although ray is doing great but jim was the voice of doors as we know it.

  • MUZA FAJNA ALE GDZIE MORISON ? POLSKA

  • Oh man, it was a real mistake for them to attempt to forge ahead without finding a new singer. Neither Krieger nor Manzerak could sing well enough to carry that end of it. Their chances of succeeding were damaged, and I have yet to hear any stand-out material among the several of post-Jim songs I've checked out.

  • your dumb they never wanted to re create a new band, ray does a magnificent job with their post morrison sound especially with robbies help. jim even stated he wished once he died or ineveditably left the band to go to jail, that he wished they would continue playing together without a new singer.

  • Well, smart ass, he got his wish--and they folded within two years because they sucked.

  • I'm pretty sure for the remaining 3, it was a cleansing/purgative for them to cut a couple albums without Jim. I would guess a lot of these songs from 'Other Voices' and the other are ones that never made the cut for the albums they made while Jim was still around. They put out a lot of material in a really short time too, and were constantly touring in the beginning as well. This was their chance to release the previous 6 years and put things to rest properly.

  • wow, ray DOES sound like jagger on this one doesn't he!!!!

  • yeah he does, he isn't really a bad singer, but without morrison they could never be the same

  • Great song!

  • this song reminds me of the stones....-_-

  • sta canzone cantata da jim era 1000 e una notte !! bravo ra

    y !!!!!!!!!!

  • good rnroll

but with Morrison u get shamanism on top

and this is the big difference

  • actually , morrison was such an icon that he put the rest of the band in shadow.

you can see they're faces here:) they're happy. They have the right to do that, they are great musicians

  • I love it!

Ray sings pretty well in my opinion ^^

  • very good song!!!!!

    i love it

i have that song in my ipod

  • i dont know why but i dont like rays singing.

  • I never really did like Ray's singing either, but IMO the band really smokes here. It's too bad they couldn't stick it out for awhile longer and found another front man, because one thing a rock band's got to have is a good singer. (OK, well, there's the Grateful Dead, but I don't consider them a "rock band" in the usual sense.) Anyhow, Robbie, Ray, and John were really building on they started on the last album or two. Such a shame it didn't work out.

  • that picture at :40 is so sad without morrison

  • man......regardless; this song ROCKS.

  • Great song :) Jim was not the only good singer in the band. love robbies vocals too ;)

  • nada simplemente nada sin jim...

  • Was this song on their Full Circle album?.......it sounds familiar!!

  • Nope, this is from the Other Voices album.

  • oh!........ok thanks.

  • Uff hace muchos años . . . despues de que murio Jim

  • oh Jim :=(

  • Ray has such a great voice

  • It does have the same bluesy tone as L.A. Woman, but I would't say it sounds like it.

There's a lot of songs that have this kind of blues sound.

  • Cool song. Three consummate musicians at work.

  • this sounds quite like "l.A. Woman"

  • Ray manzarek you are the best!!!Go on!

  • I believe many of these songs were written with Jim in mind hoping he would change his mind & join the band again. I think he would of brought these songs to life but i guess we'll never know.

  • its really depressing seeing just the three doors

  • Could easily fit on Morrison Hotel. Good tune.

  • I thought the same

  • Always loved this song since the first time I heard it. It was years before I knew that Jim Morrison was not singing it.
