The Star Spangled Banner only became our anthem in 1931, so there may have indeed been a reason for the lyrics as subtitles.

A lot of people did not like the new anthem because it is much more difficult to sing than 'My Country Tis of Thee,' which was the de facto anthem before that. My father was one of them, although he did not talk about it that much.

@yankeeshogun Fascinating. BTW, MCToT is among the songs sung to the tune of 'God Save the Queen', the national anthem of the United Kingdom. I know 'Queen' and 'The Star-Spangled Banner' and 'O Canada' so well. Well, mainly the first verse. I also know a verse of 'GSTQ' that began with 'Thy choicest gifts in store.'

Remember also, it's always the loudest and most belligerent among us(humans) who get the most attention.

Of course, if it a representative of a nation did throw out a sweeping generalization about another without proof that it's true...well...people might be justified in being upset.

This is a great video and an historical approach to our anthem. During the war years I'm sure movie houses playing this helped draw our people together.
