It looks like an entire hippo to me actually, but it's so vague no one can say for certain what it is except for the artist, which WASN'T Michael Jackson by the way. In advertisements there are so many hidden or "subliminal" images it's not even funny. This is by no means unique in marketing. Take a look at Joe Camel one day and tell me what you see.

OK so first I just want to point out that Michael Jackson was not the designer of the cover. He did, however, instruct the album cover designer, Mark Ryden, to make it interesting and stimulating hence allowing anyone to analyze the cover in their own individual way. The thing about this elaborate artwork is you can basically pick out anything from it and analyze. The real enemies, who are many, are the ones who look at the cover and see evil. Michael did not.
