  • very few people make their own videos on youtube and most of it is utter shite. it will never replace tv, the production values are too low and bad. you really need a team of people making a show on youtube, but most people are too far up their own ass to work together and besides they live too far away from each other.

  • amateur tv lives

  • i like watching videos made by people on youtube instead of big companies because they're more creative and i know that i could do the same if i wanted to.

  • Firstly- wooo i also just watched this on the bbc. Secondly, i love YT coz of the freedom to do what we want- it isnt scheduled or restricted and it accomodates to most peoples taste. I have a concern in company's such as the BBC's interest. I suppose YT is a way of escaping, we express ourselves and not have the commercialism of big corporations. Plus...its better than Eastenders.

  • U can share stuff with friends, & catch stuff missed on tv free, don't have 2 put up with adverts. Have had 2B @ home 4 last 3 mnths & adverts R driving me crazy. Know they pay bills but do we have 2B bombarded with same thing over & over again! Lot of originality's disappeared, 2 much Americanisation, far 2 many reality gameshows, sooo boring! Producers get idea & plug it 2 death. Variety needed. Films, don't split with news, I give up watching, news 24 hrs a day now, don't need News@10!

  • I'm so cool - just watched this on T.V, lol.

I thought it was a really interesting programme and, in fact, is one of the few T.V shows I've watched, considering I'm on half term and am meant to be watching day time T.V.

I personally prefer watching shows on the net because it hosts no boundaries - you can watch something with out being given a number to call if you were "disturbed by the content". It gives you freedom, both in what you watch and what you can produce.

  • THIS WAS ON TV

  • I only use youtube so my friends can watch the skate vids i make, but i think its better than TV because it shows the opinions and views of the smaller man rather than the corporate, blood sucking, sell-outs that run/ruin the majority of the media and are destroying the creativity in people and bringing down society.

  • Ive been making movies since an early age, I started when I was about 12, looking back at my videos ive realised how much I have came on with making my clips and movies.

  • i don't go on youtube for watching other ppl's videos, theyr usually rubbish and boring and stupid and badly filmed. i also dont upload my own ones. its best for watching humourous commercial videos... youtube is far from the first site like this, i dont know why it succeeded so well. also, theres nothing good on tv... its all rubbish and repeats.

  • Watching your program now random i use Youtube becasue i can find thing that are specifically to my tastes no ads and normally a lot more entertaining and get to share my opinion with people all over the world

  • TV takes you away from life and turns you into a lethargic voyeur of other people's ideas. YouTube and the creation of your own video's excersizes the imagination and makes participants out of observers.

  • hey im watching your tv write now

  • wooo! i so just watched this on tele!!

  • i just saw this on youtube

  • I started using YT simply because it was WAY better than Google video in terms of upload time, verification time, and ease of locating my videos. I needed someplace to store my videos other than my hard-drive. I started making videos just to be a ble to show friends and then, because of the people I met, started making videos "for" the community. What do I like? The people and the creativity I find here...

  • I have sent as a video response my first video that I created just for YT....

  • Nice work :-)

  • To be honest I actually prefur youtube to televison because it's got everything Ive always been into, which as you know is movie making. Movie making is want I want to do for a long term carrer, so watching other users videos help broaden my ideas and make me want to try these effects and try to make my own videos. So check out my videos and give me some feedback to help me out. Thank you.

  • Hi Max,

I would like to know what your intention is to come here. Looking for original stuff to put on a TV show or are you working on an alternative concept for BBC?

  • It's a fair question - I'm making a documentary telling the story of YouTube and 'DIY TV' in general. I am simply reporting on the amazing success of YouTube and asking some of the people who use the service why they prefer it to 'normal' (that is scheduled) television.

  • People can draw, sing, tell jokes and give commentary even though they are not professional artists or pundits; now the same is true with making videos. Basically the cost of the technology to create videos has put it in reach of many people, providing a channel for creative expression previously reserved to elites and celebrities. Basically it is now an affordable hobby. Our cultures value visual media because we have been raised on it, therefore video provides a familiar way to communicate.

  • I think this is the bottom line vidular; and I (personally) think you've made a very valid point.

  • Hi peter. If the question was "why do you watch youtube instead of TV" it would be easier to answer, but you asked "why do you like to MAKE your own videos rather than WATCH tv?".

  • dunno why i called you pater, sorry max.

Well i prefer to watch YouTube than TV because i'm bored of soaps, reality TV, bad gameshows and gneral lack of quality on TV. YouTube isn't a replacement really, it's something totally different, but more fun because it feels far more interactive and personal.

  • I like to MAKE my own videos because i'm interested in film-making and i enjoy posting them to YouTube because i can get feedback, build up a very personal-feeling fan-base and interact with everyone who watches my films.

  • Get out of Peter's room! You're scaring me! :)

What do I think? Ok, seriously? I couldn't even pay attention to what you said, you scared me by being in Peter's room. hehe.

    -Mike

  • That's very interesting...one of the arguments we're exploring is that 'niche is the new mainstream' - that technology is allowing us to completely change the way we consume content.

  • totally - i very rarely watch mainstream tv - via youtube i can watch say an evening of classic rock and roll live footage then some kenneth anger experimental works - i can programme my own viewing habits around my own tastes

  • no not really - we're based in cumbria and it was always hard to get things out there. i think just being able to be seen is enough. If we wanted big audiences we'd work more in the mainstream. With things like youtube we do have the chance of connecting with people that will love our stuff that we'd struggle to place within mainstream programming

  • so we don't have to compromise - you can now get an audience for the weird and wonderful without having to try to sell the idea, as long as you are happy to work on a small budget

  • But is the size of the audience important?

  • Hello! I am just going to start on creating my video responce that may or may not be used in the show, sorry for the delays, i will try and get it finished A.S.A.P!

    ~AL~

  • Thanks 123pickle123 - look forward to it !

  • P.s. What music was used in this video? :P Sounds good...

    ~Al~

  • It's by an unsigned band from the 90's called 'The Yage Letters'

  • interesting... feeling the competition? ;)

  • Well nice little gentlemen first of all I love this site. But anyway, this site has a very wide variety of people and videos. Searching is quite easy and simple, and reliative. I don't think I have ever a site quite like it. People are gentle and kind aswell. Just thought I'd tell you that :)
