I'm new to this. Working with a tutorial QT file, I don't have the camera info. How can I use Rolling Shutter to stabilize the file? The only info I do have is that the file is 720 x 480 NTSC .
@GURUOM There's a good page on the manual about it (p20-21), Take a look. Essentially find a frame where there's some lines that should be vertical but are slanted, and then drag the correction parameter about until they are vertical. Hope this helps.
Hello I have a question. I have a camcorder Canon Vixia HF S20 and I want to use it for tracking. So how can I get rollingshutter distortion from this camera? Should I find lens distortion first, then render it as - "undistorted footage" and then apply for rolling shutter or I should apply rolling shutter for raw footage and only then correct lens-distortion.
Thank you very much, I'm very interesting to get this plugin for my company.
@jsambuev The technically correct way would be roshu first, but then lens dist, however in practice it's generally best to test the path both ways and see which works best. Hope this helps.
@TheFoundryChannel What is "Framewise Time shift in your plugin? I have RollingShutter option in 3DE, but your plugin works just from -1 to 1, but in 3DE I should enter exact time-number: "0.0047 sec" like this.
Hello shortbusheros4 We're not skewing the image with this tool. We're correcting each pixel separately. For example, in the case of a camera moving only vertically, this will correct the squashing or stretching of the content vertically, not along rows.
Hey Guillermop - it's unlikely at the current state of play, as last time we checked there was an issue with the API and not freeing memory correctly for the technique we use. Please do drop an official feature request into support at thefoundry dot co dot uk to ensure it gets officially tracked, as the more people request it, the more likely it is to get investigated again.
Hey Pienandoro, we're always looking to check out problematic footage, to see if we can come up with settings that help or for assisting in future research, so if you get a moment can you drop in the clip in question to support at thefoundry dot co dot uk?
May not be available yet but InVisage (the people making quantum film sensor) have also developed QuantumShutter to completely eliminate rolling shutter. I imagine it'll take a while to filter into products, but great news for the future of digital video

this is a great piece of software, but you need support for FCP, FCE and sony vegas, maybe with these added to your current supported NLE you can drop the price, $500 is ridiculous, as most have mentioned, we could sell our cameras for that or simply buy another one as a tool for whip pans and fast motion effects, most of your user base is from Video DSLR users and we use these for shallow depth of field, for $500 we could just but a cheap regular camcorder as a B camera for these scenes
Wow, I really need this plugin (for After Effects). Too bad it's so expensive. For 100$ this would have been a great deal but for 500$ I'll rather sell my old camera and get a new one :D
Are there any plans to reduce the price in near future?
Yep, that'll be fine McNolos, but don't take our word for it - grab the fully functioning demo license from our website and try it out for your yourself.
I'd argue that some CMOS cameras are better enough than their CCD competitors that it's worth the rolling shutter problems -- which are very minor in a lot of cmos cameras anymore. It also depends on what you're planning on shooting. Blanket statements like "CCDs are better" are baseless and pointless, really.
Get a camera with a CCD sensor instead. I hate -- absolutely hate -- rolling shutter. The best way to fix rolling shutter distortion is to never have it in the first place.
This looks amazing... I've been waiting for some time for this..
I have a question: how well does this work from a video stabilizing point of view ?
Trying to stabilize a shot with a CMOS camera produces ghosting from the non overlaping skewing consequent frames. Will this plugin eliminate this ? Or do we have to wait for other solution...
Hey, haven't seen this ghosting before, but this plug-in tries to put objects back in the right place, and remove the skewing, so it might help... maybe try the demo from our website... sorry not to be any more help.
Hey Folks. Thanks for all the kind words and interest! Render times are generally in the same ballpark as something like our Kronos re-timing plug-in, so by no way real-time :-)
you guys are the best!! Super duper! Top stuff... I wonder.. How long would it take to render out, lets say - a 10 sec pan clip? Or is it relatively quick? (of course, depends on your processor)
Great plugin! Saw you WIP on it from the FXGUIDETV cast, and have been looking forward ever since! Now its here, and then i can maybe consider buying the Nikon D90, but i will wait till i see some more results using this plug!
if you don't want rolling shutter issues buy a CCD camera not a CMOS camera.
CMOS =CRAP

Why are they skewing the image?? they should just take the individual rows of pixels and shift the lagging ones forward.....

$500 is a joke for such a plugin, just avoid whip pans

dude, $500 for a plugin like this one is insane. Thanks for exploiting the camera market negatively.

Anyway I'm very happy to see this plug-in that fixes Rolling Shutter problem. This plug-in a huge help to people.

Would you recommend using the default settings with a Canon 7D, Mark IID or 550d? Or would each require some tweaking?
