  • Dave's book is worth the read for any VH fan. Sammy is awesome as well. I like both incarnations. To bad they can't work together double the music at half the price. I'd like to see it happen.

  • I love the swing feel of this tune. Al and Ed are lagging the 8th notes just slightly.

  • It seems to me that David bites the microphone constantly

  • Balance was what turned me off to VH after being a fan for so many years. It sounded like they were just going through the motions. I saw them on that tour for the 5th or 6th time, and found it to be the weakest they ever sounded. Didn't get to see Roth with the band (too young), but these videos blow away the Sammy era shows I saw...

  • I hate not being born in these years... :'(

  • Dave actually sang live and did all kinds of crazy martial arts moves at the same time. Eddie played guitar and keyboards masterfully well. The band was fun, humorous and energetic. Gotta love Van Halen, musical medication.

  • I give credit where it's due. Sammy had some big shoes to fill and had massive success. He's a real nice guy and makes a great tequila. I am a DLR girl but Sammy deserves credit. The reason I prefer Dave besides the fact that he's one of my fave frontmen of all time is because there was a youthful rebellion to the Dave music that was kind of lost on the second incarnation of the band.

  • LOOK AT ALL THE PEOPLE ON YOUTUBE TONIGHT. Ha ha ha. Something Dave would say.

  • Sammy Hagar was a stupid shitbird.......no talent at all

Diamond Lee Roth was a ROCK GOD......fucked the hottest pussy on Earth

  • Dave was so much better then Sammy, as far as VH went. Sammy was talented, but Dave was the man!

  • daves prob is he forgets the words he gets so wasted its funny

  • Great tune~ thnx for posting. VH Rules

  • Sammy blows. Van Hagar was a joke. Dave was/is the king. Sure they sold records, but is was mostly pop radio crap. They can't hold a candle to the real thing. These muther fuckers were truly bad ass!

  • @zenphil

    ONE WORD FOR YOU, SIR:

    DREAMS.

    greatest. van halen. song. ever.

  • @Abadox88 are you a 12 year old girl? Only then would I excuse your comment. Dreams is top 4o garbage!!!

  • @zenphil

you're top 40 garbage. and i dont think 12 year old girls listen to van halen, because its 2011.

my last comment was sarcastic obviously, becuase everyone knows 'Love Walks In' (off 5150) is their best.

    think b4 u speak

  • @Abadox8 Excuse my ignorance. Secrets never made the top 40, but that crap song did. Think? OK. I think you have no taste in music. I think you like generic shit. I think you have no taste. Go see Sammy, but stay away from Van Halen shows, cause thay aint gonna play that garbage ever again. IDIOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @zenphil

relax buddy again you miss the obvious sarcasm. VH's coolest album in my opinion is Fair Warning.

I have the whole dave era catalogue, but "Balance" (1995), which is with sammy of course, is a really interesting album. Listen to it. if you cant get past your hatred for mr hagar, then you are the idiot that has no taste in music. Eddie was at the peak of his playing on that album. Give it a listen.

  • @Abadox88 Personally, I find Balance to be VH's weakest effort. There weren't any particulary stand out songs, and I'm not a fan of the way the alnum was mixed. To loud, compressed, and is very far away from the "live sound" Van Halen started with. Humans Being, released after Balance, is an excellent song, and was really Hagar's last horah. Van Halen 3 was like a different band.

  • @wimpyliberalbuster32

i agree, there were no stand out songs, and the mixing was just a sign of the times unfortunately, the 90s started compressing sounds to shit, im sure the record company wanted to "keep current" with production styles. But you dont find eddie to have a really cool style on that album? i mean.. i think that was his final peak in playing, style wise, since the '84 album. Live, he also had a kick ass solo during that tour!!

  • @Abadox88 Totally agree. Ed's playing was out of this word during the 1995 tour.

  • Roth is a better showman then Haggar- plus their music was better during the Roth years imo.

  • Fantastic!

  • Darth, you're a simpleton. Van Hager had more sales, so what. Amerian Idol gets more viewers a week than 60minutes, Roth runs rings around Hagar in every manner possible. Sammy's a nice guy but he's a light weight. Dave is one of a kind. Period

  • @MRCATL3 I agree with you 100%! Dave kicks, sammy blows.

  • Awesome

  • This is like getting a personal full body mesage from Dave and Eddie both..."Who's in me now?"..."OH OH OH...Yeahhhhhhh...both!.....Thanxxx guys!"

  • Man I wish I saw the Diver Down tour but I was only a young for 8th grade little dude at that time.....grrrr

January 1984 in Hartford, CT was my first live ride........

  • i just completed my david lee roth days van halen colletcion with ths album, and i gotta say all 6 albums are fucking amazing... it really doesnt get much better than this lineup

  • Was there too Wildcat...5th row center..hey! I think I see my big head :)

  • @AcesHigh116 I think I see our Big Pot Cloud!!!!

  • at age 43 im proud to say i was there for the ride :)-

  • @Wildcatt1

I was too bro! Privileged to see the mighty VH on the ''81, '82 and '84 tours. I was only 14 for the Fair Warning tour, and was lucky to be there. My parents hated it.

  • this is one of the best songs ever recorded

  • Dave and I are out tonight... we got some chicks smokin and poppin ass do al la doo da!

  • bas ass song. ive had diver down in the car for a month now !!

  • happy birthday david lee roth

  • Zakk Wylde

    Eddie Van Halen

    Glenn Tipton

    ..Guitar Gods!

  • considering you cant spell guitar

  • kiss fan?

    bon jovi fan?

where's your sense of SELF respect

  • at least they get dvds music n treated with respect , thats all i was aaying

  • Eddie is the best Guitar player of the of the World.

Dave is the best Van Halen singer forever.

  • largo? who cares about rich crackers and half nigger islands? not me bitch

  • this is one of their best , brilliant , Dave is brilliant . its a shame the van halens treat their fans like shit , prob the worst treated fans in the world bar none. wld be nice to be a kiss fan, bon jovi , iron maiden fan n get respect , dvds , boxsets tours , man i luv VH but gees we get treted like absolute shit. they ruined a legacy , they treat fans like shit , its not easy to b a vh fan ,

  • Man,I could'nt agree more-The "mystery" is kinda gettin; old.

AND Dave finally comes back and no Mike??!

You said it...Not easy bein' a Van Halen fan.

  • I think Dave's vocals were taped for this song.

  • This is one of my favorite Van Halen songs. Obscure, different, softer, melodic, and that's why I like it.

  • my cat loves this record ha ha

  • This stuff needs to be out on DVD.

  • Songs like this really show how good Dave was as a singer/lyrics/performer!!Sam never had a thing on Dave!!!!Just do the math.

  • @pete19845150 The math? Like twice as many album sales as Roth? I dunno... maybe both guys rocked and all you "Uncle Ricos" stuck in 1982 can't see the forest for the trees.

VAN HALEN are the brothers... not the blonde schmoe singing at the time.

  • will anyone tell me how 2 burn a audio cd of these live videos?

  • hmmm id say one stupid way you could do it is with 2 computers using a recording program. and out the headphone jack into the mic jack? maybe

  • just download the vdownloader, and before you download change the output file to mp3

  • Are you saying, You tube's to DVD for your TV, or You tubes for your say car/cd music?

I downloaded RealPlayer, but it takes me a couple jumps to get it to the car. Would like to be able to do it in one swoop...

  • hahaha

it's awesome when Eddie give like three little steps back in the begining =D

  • this is one of my favourites of =VH=

  • Diver Down is the best Van Halen record. Remember I bought it when it came out in 82.

  • too many covers but this song is great and Little Guitars is the best Van Halen song

  • the vh bros regard it as "dave's" record. but i LOVE it

    beats all of sammys

  • Are you referring to Diver Down?

  • love this song. Great rhythm and perfect lyrics from Dave.

  • thanx man for the video

  • always loved this song and a killer intro by eddie.one of the most underated songs by vanhalen

  • Watch how Eddie changes from one neck to the other.. so smooth! Especially after the solo..... that delay is perfection!

  • This is one of my all time favorite Van Halen tunes. This solo is all soul and fire. baddass Eddie Van Halen shit! I think Diver Down is one of the most underrated rock albums ever.

  • i agree - sorry marked your comment as spam by mistake - slip of the cursor there - so sorry man!

  • no problem man!

  • I dont hate Sammy Hagar I really like him..but when I think of van halen I think David lee Roth

  • That double neck Kramer sounds amazing.

  • need more less popular songs played live. its a shame songs like could this be magic/dirty movies/top jimmy never were played live

  • This was my first rock show. Well maybe not this one, as I think they played two nights.

But still, awesome first show to see.

  • NICE and tasty.

  • I'd have to agree

  • Great live version of this song!!

  • All david lee-roth era kicks so much ass!I hate spammy's music! That kramer double neck is sick btw!

  • Sammy and Dave both have their good sides and their bad sides. Both eras rock more than any other band.

  • Ya,very true:)

  • Great lyrics by Dave. Fits the song perfectly.

  • past vh on to my boys 14 and 11 the 11 year old was behind me one day going got to bleed for it baby, brought a tear to my eye

  • Love alex's drumming where he makes it sound like he looses the beat. Very creative style that boy has.

  • This is really cool - thanks for posting.

  • I'll be passing along VH to my newborn son too. Forget about all the contemporary bands, they're just crap!

  • Out-frickin-standing! One of the funkiest groves Eddie ever produced. Love it!

  • Alot of the big name guitar players play great solos. But when it comes to writing great songs and melodies they can't touch EVH.

How many radio stations play Satriani or Vai regularly? I'm not knocking those guys, It's just a thought.

  • RELEASE A DVD OF THIS ERA VH NOW!!!!

  • I know eddie plays guitar good but does dave have to hump him?

  • well it was iether him or carrot top.

  • anybody know why eddie plays the double guitar?

  • he needs the 12-string to play the main part of 'secrets' and it doesn't sound right to tap on a 12-string (i.e. the solo), so the 6-string below can have him do both instead of switching guitars mid-song or having another guitarist.

  • VH should definatly remaster this footage and release it to the fans, along with Oakland 81, and us festival. I think we hardcore fans deserve a good Roth era DVD collection am I right?

  • i hve never seen a beter video that shows ed's talent.what a solo;i'm drunk ed fuckin ruuuuules!!!!

  • FUCK YEAH !!!!!they should release this on dvd..sammy sucks...

  • I was 11 when this came out. Diver Down was the first record I ever bought. I hope my 5 month old son (my first) has a band like Van Halen to love when he is 12.

  • I was around 11ish too when this album was released.Hope when my son is born next week he will appreciate all great artists. They are far and between now.

  • it's just so much better than mediocre hagar, oh it was so great and the new tour musically was even tighter, cleaner

  • I like both eras but yeah Roth era was the True "Van Halen" Sammy fit in well I thought .. just not the original! This song is one of those unsung Gems! Nice chord progression .. Eddie's songwriting skills are really the top reason they were always successful cause it gave him a platform for riffs/melodies that then turned into the legendary solos we all know him for!

  • this solo i diver down version is one of most beautiful elastic guitar sound ever!!! listen the end

  • Dave's really working his mojo from 2:41 on...isn't he girls?

  • I learned this song the other day, its a great song

  • miss those day's .. nothi'n like a VAN HALEN show back in the day

  • One of my least favorite VH songs, but sounds great in concert! They put some new life into it live...

  • One of my absolute favorites. That rhythm guitar is fucking incredible.

  • Yeah, the rhythm changes are incredible. He really composed on this one. Eddie's solo ain't all bad either.

  • Yeah, many other artists put their energy into making singles, while filling the rest of their albums with junk. Van Halen filled their albums with quality from start to finish. Even thier cover songs were better than the originals. I think Eddie said "Secrets" was one of his favorites.

  • What distinctive and excellent background vocals are heard here..Van Halen was a multi-faceted band with many talents..not just rockin' hard but playin' right.

  • What a great tune ! VH is simply AWESOME !

  • One of me and my sister's favorite.

    They're the best...

  • Valerie Bertinelli liked this song, too.

  • Here's her sister, confirming that this is in fact my favorite VH song - and I love it live!

  • oww oww, this song not only got 'good rhythym'..so catchy..a perfect pop rock classic track..VH forever..

  • doesn't get much better than this

  • "Michael Anthony's voice sounds as great as ever!"

  • Hey ...any chance one of you could post the album version with the cover art or slide show ect? Would really like someone to hear it clean and pristine. Thanks in advance as I just don't have the ability to do it atm.

  • I have this whole '82 Largo show on DVD....awesome classic VH concert....I wish they would dig up all their old concert footage (no Van Hagar!!) and put it on Blu-ray so we can enjoy the vintage stuff!!!

  • Amen to that

  • Definitely one of VH's nice "pretty" songs.

  • hey rothonly4me, what dya mean, wots falsecetto?? If you mean how he could dolike the train whistles and whistle registers or woteva, he can still do em , there a vid from 2004 just like paradise live where he oes all that cool stuff!

  • ...and you.

  • i just heard an old recording of ed and some telephone interview with a writer from giutar world or something. ed sounded very proud of his work on writing this song. ck out the 9 part- phone conversation at 5150EVH5150.

very cool, behind the scenes, kind of reality.

  • Rain you hear it?

  • And Hi Sandie!

  • Chris, it's your boy Zach! Thanks for the vid!

  • Whats up bro....?

    Thanks for the comment!!

  • David Lee Roth's best lyrics...

  • "Feet are makin tracks in the winter snow...." I love that line.....awesome song.

  • I bet that they do 'Secrets' at the reunion show.

  • David Lee Roth is known for many things, some good, some bad. But one thing that he had a unique monopoly on was a SUPREME rock falsecetto. I dont ever hear people talk about the fact that its gone. He lost around 1988. Why I dont know. If drug and alcohol did it than it would have gone away much sooner. People now say dave doest have the range he used to but on the contrary his natural voice is just as good he just cant rely on his falcetto.

  • so this is what good rock sounded like...

ahhh.. yeah! Still sounds good today!!

  • ...the scream at 2:54...priceless.

  • I'm a guitar man but check out Alex's technique throughout the song especially around 2:40 to 2:47.

  • yo pureintensity:), you sure thats not a 12 string, theres tuners on the bottom and top of the neck with the alluminium neck?

  • Equinox69 thank you for the video

  • damn, i forgot about that song........brings back memories. thanks for sharing the clip.

  • THOSE WERE THE ONLY DAYS BABY!

  • never knew that was played on a 12-string

  • that's not a 12 string, its a Double neck kramer, the top neck is an Aluminum neck guitar

  • Do you have Aint Talkin' Bout Love from this show? Show Velvet Revolver how it's done.

  • ahahaha so I wasn't the only one who noticed how poor that was

  • I noticed it too! Even 'Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love' from this concert is five billion times better, and that's saying something since Ed's guitar is a little out of tune. Not knocking him for it by any means, it's just one of those things that can happen in live performances.

  • Please upload The Full Bug from this show.

  • Awesome!

  • One of the most underrated VH songs and there are two awesome live versions posted on the tube. VH ruuulz.

  • Agreed - an underrated gem from the Roth-era.

EVH was always far more than a shredder and a tapper and this really shows it. Great melody.

  • power songs, sweet songs, great backing vocals, uffff!!! This is Van Halen!!!

  • My favorite VH song!!!! This is sweet! Thanks for posting!

  • this is from the diver down tour

  • This song totally kicks A! They are still the BEST

  • Thanks.. Awesome Van Halen from the 80's. Rock On!

  • Thanks for the post. Been looking everywhere for this live version. Was this from the 84 tour?

  • Diver down tour... one of the best show's that they had pro shot... I really hope 'someone' gets over things and they release a real version of this Largo show...

  • Oh,ooh,oh,woman gets crazy, she gets crazy when You whisper your secrets in her ear...

  • Kick ass!
