I love how same gender dancing gets categorized as "not authentic"! So many dancers butcher the musicality and embrace, that's even less authentic even if the genders are considered appropriate.
@smwhipple "appropriate" genders??? what are we - back in the stone age? I'm leading as well as I'm following in tango and - I EQUALLY LOVE DOING BOTH! as anyone else can (experience) too, IF you're just open and over ANY KIND of prejudicies!
I agree that there's nothing wrong with Nuevo or Traditional Tango; people can dance whatever makes them happy. But I also agree that they can't coexist on the same dance floor. They're danced at different venues in BsAs and that's the best way.
Personally, I don't think Nuevo, the dance or the music, has anything to do with Tango. But it's a reality we all have to live with. All I ask is that nuevo dancers stay away from traditional milongas.
How is the name of "nuevo tango" wrong? It means new tango. To not have new tango is to suggest that the art form is dead. Even the most structured and carefully guarded musical forms experience tremendous change in the space of a single generation of musicians and this is simply because music and dance being communicative devices never communicate the same way twice. N. tango absolutely is tango. It has the rhythmic structure and it stems from the same history.
Hehehe. And the whole time I'm thinking "the first tango aficionados were actually street toughs. Why do you think there's so much lufardo?" Yeah it looks all purty once everyone's in suits and gowns, but authenticity/tradition is created. Nothing wrong with Nuevo Tango. Also nothing wrong with uber "traditional" tango. Although ... it is rather hard to let them coexist in the same milonga let alone tanda.
@tamanosou "Nothing wrong with Nuevo Tango." That is not true, the name of the dance is wrong. Yes, the suit, the gowns, and the same gender couples dancing tango are all irrelevant. However, just like in ballrooom dance, the music in nuevo is not tango, therefore the dance is neither.
Do not misunderstand me -- there are modern orchestras playing tango. For instance, milongas by Esteban Morgado are great danceable songs, both modern and traditional.

@Tang0Lover how about "unity makes the force"?
and "united in (our) differencies"? - or in our love for the music and dance?
you is what one might call a "SEPARATIST" (FYI , it's NOT a compliment! or something to be proud of)
