  • @ 7:26 -- Now *that*, my friends, is a curse!

  • I agree, this is my favorite scene in this movie. I can quote it verbatim. My favorite movie too.

  • Damn that's a good movie. When the boy comes home from Africa and says "Mama", I can't do nothing but lose it. Amazing.

  • celie flipping out lmao

  • Maybe sweep out the caboose LOL

  • "SWEEP OUT THA KA-BOOSE LMAOOO!!!"

  • Sophia wants to thank Celie?? Celie was the one that told Harpo to beat her in the first place.

  • I know wat it like wanna sang...have it beat out cha!

  • 9 dislikes? Well the 1,308 of us are gonna sit around and woop your ass.

  • Yes this is the best part of the whole movie!!!

  • @lizmizmardy "and end your creation...."

  • This scene took three days to complete

  • The Color Purple although fiction is based on a true story from Walker's life. Her great-grandfather (white plantation owner) raped her great grandmother. She was only 12. The true events of The Color Purple really have a sad ending but the author gave the story a happy ending. It is sad what the white man did to black people.

  • @twogoodeyes2 I don't remember that happening in The Colour Purple. Or did I forget something?

  • What does she say after "time for me to get away from you" ?

  • @lilmizmardy

She actually says, "get away from you...and INTO CREATION"... This is actually one of the deepest parts of the book. With Mr., she was an object--invisible--dead, but getting away and thus, embracing her own identity, she was 'reborn' you might say.

  • "Well we need some stability around here, that's for sure." LOL!!!

  • Im poor black may even be ugly but dear god I'm here love it

  • nothing but horse s**** love this movie

  • Celie went in after all those years of being abused and oppressed; that had to feel good letting loose like that

  • No bitch she's not coming back.....lol

  • This make me want to cry

  • WHAT I DONT UNDERSTAND IS WHY IT TOOK HER UNTIL SHE WAS DAMN NEAR 70 YRS OLD TO SNAP? I WOULDVE WENT OFF THE FIRST TIME HE PUT HIS HAND ON ME

  • TOO MUCH RACKET GOIN ON IN THIS PLACE PASS ME DEM PEAS LOL

  • 01:46 - I LOL'd hard, boy! XD!!

  • Paw was a trip lol!

  • dis how you check dim low down niggas...put a knife on his throat at dinner table...drama just came out of nowhere.

  • for those of you looking for the book i uploaded it

  • thumbs up for oprah's laugh! :D

  • the dead has risen

  • Shug's husband is seated by Sophia at 6:26, then moves behind Albert at 6:33 - then moves back by Sophia by 6:38. Then peeps back in the room at 7:02. Whew . . . that is quite a bit of moving for on character in one scene. I never quite understood such.

  • till u do right by ME, NIGGA!!!- Kat Williams hahaha

  • Cuz ya daddy aint nuthin but some dead, HORSE SHIT!!!!!! lmao

  • UNTIL U DO RIGHT BY ME NIGGA!!!!

  • Thats right Miss Celie! Get em! Best part: ‎"I'm poor. Black. I may even be ugly, but dear God I'm here! I'm here!" *Raises right arm like Miss Celie in the yellow drop top* lool

  • i can't watch this scene without pissing myself...hahahaha...

  • 6:10 Now pay close attention here, kiddies. This is what we adults like to refer to as a "Wrong Answer"... :)

  • Wen i saw this movie first time, me and my sis were togather laughing and crying, now she is dead by only 22..and now i only cry. i specially hail that scene last one when Nettie and celie run to hug each other after 37 years, perhaps i will also hug my sister in the sky somewhere. This Color purple is in my heart for for ever. if possible i request you to put the whole movie..online here.thank you.

  • My FAVORITE movie! My FAVORITE scene. I know this entire movie word for word, let along this scene. My sister's and I reference this movie almost EVERY time we talk to each other (Now that's a lie! Now that's a lie!) Lol! How it didn't win ANY Oscars!? Bewildereing!

  • @AnointedApntdE You ain't the only one! :-D

  • Fool put his hands on me, i'd beat the hell outta him everyday! Just for fun! lmao!

Y'all better remember one thing, everything somebody done to you, you already done it back to them. And believe me,it's true. It all comes back in good time.

  • Black folks is scared of that stuff. They all the time be talkin about how so and so put a root on somebody they knew and lord, dontcha know? It worked! They'd swear by it,too. lol!

  • my god the dead has arisen XD one of my favorite lines

  • what was the thing she did with her hand while getting into the car? was that her hexing him or just something else?

  • @KeithWasHere1 I hear you its funny how back in those days , you point your finger at someone like whoopie did , people would stop in their tracks like some evil power is gonna occur............lol

  • @wreepeet she says she has people coming up to her doing that same finger thing and she has to take a second and is like "what are you doing?" then it clicks and she realizes its from a color purple.

  • @wreepeet even whoopi said she didnt know what it meant!

  • powerful movie..damn powerful...the book has alot more too it though.

  • 6 people was in the store with ms millie...

  • it's imposible to not leave a tear wacthing this movie... was made in 1985 but I saw this movie first time...

  • Who the hell is not moved by this film?

Out of Africa won best picture this year? WTF!!!

When was the last time you saw that movie?

Color Purple produced the wealthiest women in the world, an Academy Award Winning Actress (Whoopi Goldberg) was directed by one the most heralded film maker of our times and stared Danny Glover and Laurence F Fishbourne!!

  • "Boy, you gon let this little nappy headed gal sit here and cuss you out like that?"

    lol xD

  • 2:21- Wasn't Celie the one who suggested Harpo beat Sofia? I know Albert put the idea in his head, but wasn't Celie the one who basically said, "hit her"?

  • @ExplorerDS6789 ....yep

  • @ExplorerDS6789 THATS EXACTLY WHAT I ASKED!!

  • Go Celie! I love this film!

  • On the Reunion Show on Oprah they told it all about how and why it was so good. They were pissy drunk. The Father in this had left the bottom part of his false teeth somewhere and couldn't remember, Whoopie had taken them to a real Juke Joint the nite before and they had just made it in for the recording, still fuming. When Steven Spielburg made it to the set they were at the table rocking and he was like WTF! Just film it anyway. ....best move they did.

  • @Psychoboysaz - at the time it was "not allowed" for a cast of predominately African-American actors to win any awards. My Aunt was telling me about an Oscar Awards that she participated in. Babe the damn Pig won before ...i can't remember who was nominated in that particular one, Best Leading Roll. Horse Shit!

  • I would've give him the middle finger before I got away from him.

  • It sucks that this film didn't win any oscars

  • This is definatley the best scene

  • I watched the cast reunion on Oprah and was amazed to find out that Oprah ad-libbed everything in this scene. Oprah is an AMAZING actress, everyone in this movie are great actors. Amazing, I can't say enough words about this movie.

  • this movie is so powerful.

  • i love this scene so much, celie is so strong and sofia presents some nice comic relief

  • I love This movie <3 and I'm a "white" girl

  • I remember when I went to see this movie at the show, and I still love it, almost 25 years later; it was satisifing, and still is satisifing to see Ms Sellie's husband get what he deserved.

  • That is not Oprah Winfrey. Will someone please give her that Oscar which the Academy refused to give her? What movie did she lose to again?

  • jwannew; it made white people uncomfortable maybe guilty iam not sure, thats why it didnt win any awards can image everytime someone they look white people woulda had on their faces 2 sit there in the audience

  • Oprah's so cute when she laughs.

  • I wished Whoopi exchanged her Ghost Oscar performance for this one. She STRONGLY deserved this win, while I believe Lorraine Bracco deserved for Goodfellas that year.

  • yo aint nutin but a pice of dead hores shit

  • 5 people have no hearts.

  • The little girl at 0:17 is Whoopi's real-life daughter. This scene took three days to film.

  • @jemmabond I didn't know that. Thak you for writing.

  • @jemmabond THATS MY MOM!!!!!

  • @jemmabond that's my mom

  • We need some stability around here that's for sure. LOL LOL

  • @grant21999 I couldn't have made that sentiment anymore succinct after reading some of these asinine comments left about this clip. BS aside, this was a fantastic movie!

  • made me cry - Has always been one of the besst scenes ever filmed! It has inspired me in so many ways!

  • My absolute favorite!

  • Go Ms Celie!!! Too many "Misters" in this world! He REAPED exactly what he SOWED!

Best Line #1: "Nettie & my Kids be commin home soon, & when they do, we gone sit around an WHOOP YO A#$!" HaaaHaaa!

Best Line #2: "Did I EVER ask U for Anything??? I NEVER asked U for Nothin! Not ever your Sorry A#% hand in Marriage!" ROTFL!!!

  • Yeah this was the best scene, my younger sister and I always rewind that part where the old man says" or maybe, maybe sweep out the caboose" lmfao and omg, that cheesecake looks DELICIOUS ...

  • fukin racoons eatin there cornbread lol

  • @johnny33p excuse me? Insecure/underlyingly Inferior-minded Individual, say what?! because thats what I see when ppl make rude remarks, jealousy...envy...embedded sense of denial to recognize another as your equal because you deep down see possibly more in them than you see in urself!

  • This american masterpiece was robbed big time!!!! This movie should've gotten an oscar!!!!

  • What the fuck is this guy with Zionists, CIA shit talking about. Whoopie was a huge critic of Bush and 911 cover-ups. Is this guy delusional?

  • That damn laugh oprah winfrey did had me lmao !

  • Colour Purple- The best film to never receive acclaim.

You gotta have gangsters shooting each other up or 24 inch spinning rims to get recognized.

  • Connecticut has the first neo-nazi music station

    KC101

  • Whoopie, like most big-time talented black artists, had to sell out to Zionists and to the CIA to be able to practice her art.

  • Alice Walker is a CIA agent given the task of spreading black-male hate propaganda.

only in a country as stupid as the US could you pull such a racist scam in the name of empowering women. they were going to try to spread this frivolous and divisive culture in the middle-east. too bad Agent Steinem was outed a couple of years ago.

  • @sonbarably That's interesting! May I ask where did you get this information from?

  • @ 6:13 Celie went straight hood!!! HAHAHAHA!!!!

  • @yvessaintlaurent88 Great acting from Whoopi right there.

  • @yvessaintlaurent88 ROTFL!!! CELIE GANGSTA!!!

  • Kudos to Whoopi for telling Danny like it is.

  • druidboy76,

i think reading more carefully or developing the skills to do so might help this discussion more.

Alice Walker is neither a writer nor an artist.

she is a CIA agent whose job was to spy on American citizens and to produce black male hate propaganda

as far as hollywood, it has been in the business of white-supremacy, FBI operation and propaganda since its inception, its peak activities being in the 50s when Hoover ruled the town ruthlessly.

  • @MsThunderroad which is why black men and interracial marriages are so popular in movies nowadays. Gotcha.

  • @MsThunderroad Hollywood's only been in the business of white-supremacy since INCEPTION? Thats like, 12 months....... No I'm kidding, I agree with you. Hollywood was heavily laden with elements of it's preceding entertainment forms such as minstrel shows and blackface comedy in the early days.

  • It's funny how everyone on here turns this amazing movie into a bunch of political BULLSHIT. Can't a good movie and a good story BE a good movie and a good story without you "activist" assholes and bitches changing it into more than it needs to be? Just enjoy the movie, quit sitting around "WA WAAAA it didn't get an Oscar"...and stop blaming it on WHITE People the reason it didn't. How can ANYONE possibly think Hollywood isn't at the forefront of civil rights and every hippy "cause" alive.

  • @druidboy76 You're right. Great movie. Just enjoy it for what it is!

  • @druidboy76

get a dictionary. politics means relationships between people

discussing stories about people and telling them IS POLITICS. and American culture is ruled by the CIA and the FBI - they shaped your silly and hollow mind.

while being a citizen in a country that since 2003 has been slaughtering hundreds of thousands of women and children in the middle east in the name of Christ.

before that it was vietnam -- in the name of capitalism.

  • @sonbarably Well why don't you just bend Obama and Keith Olberman over and kiss them right on their assholes honey.

  • Ms. Magazine, a magazine Alica Walker contributed to constantly, is a magazine that has been published for over 25 years without a cent of advertising revenues.

print media is extremely costly, i.e., Ms. Magazine is directly funded by the CIA, to undermine the original working class, union based, pro-civil righst feminist movement of the 60s that so threatened the far right.

Viola Liuzzo, the civil rights activist, was part of the original movement and she was murdered by the FBI and KKK.

  • Averyofthemain,

the American feminist movement is a movement taken over by the CIA in the 70s.

Gloria Steinem and Alice Walker were sent out into the field to spy on actual feminists when the original movement of feminism was a family centered movement focused on the reproductive rights to benefit working-class families.

it was a union worker's based movement that Alice and Gloria helped to twist into a frivolous class and race divided one.

  • its creepy how everybody here looks like my family members >_>

  • Alice Walker is a CIA agent given the assignment to put out black male hate propaganda.

she was sent out with Steinem to inform on leftwing women.

another joke on black people, like lil wayne the FBI informant

  • @MsThunderroad Alice walker definitely was an agent...for feminism, that's what feminism is...the CIA never was interested enough in any 'black male standing' to bother with sending out walker or steinem, those two were bitter, foul individuals all by themselves

  • i just absolutey love the waay Oprahh just bursteed out in laughteer. "Things aree gunna changee aroundd heree" she was right.(:

The fatherr also made me laugh, "Maary-what? Miss. Mary whoo gives a damn" lmaoo! "well.. she is better thaan that first wifee yoou married"

This movie is absolute genius. very beautiful. watched this movie over 3 times and i always tear from the beginning to the end. This is the best scene. <3

  • the best movie ever as far as as emotional interaction goes, especially the restrained emotions.

  • I love this film! At times I laughed only just seconds before I cried and I felt weird for doing it. I loved Whoopi and Oprah in this film, especially Oprah because I didn't know she was this good in acting!

This movie didn't get Oscars, but its educational value is much more important than any award!

  • i just love when the boyfriend, thru all the bullshit, walks back into the dining room and thanks everyone for a lovely meal.

  • whooopie is so good in this she so meek and sumiisev and here she just turns the taples on glover

  • Wow..... just watched for the second time.... EPIC MOVIE!!!

  • i just seen the reunion on oprah today.the actor that played young celie.i would wife her in a heartbeat without a second thought.OMFG

  • How this picture didn't win an Oscar is beyond me, Hollywood politics, or did it make white people uncomfortible. Anyway, there's no way "Out of Africa" was a better movie then this. It will forever be a classic.

  • @psychoboysaz I really wish people would do their homework before assuming things. Please, go back and look at what role the NAACP played and the uproar they caused. Politics influenced it alright, but more so coming from outside of the Hollywood community.

  • @RothdeMan what the hell are you talking about? Some comment I made months ago? Jesus get a life.

  • @psychoboysaz This film was very good. I never saw Out of Africa at the time. I love this film. Whoopi and the cast were deliberately cut out from winning the award. Yes, Hollywood politics did have something to do with it not winning any Academy Awards.

  • @psychoboysaz Yep, I got to agree there. I know "out of Africa" really! The original was a bit better. No disrespect to the director of the remake Sydney Pollack. I mean the man did direct "Jeremiah Johnson". Which is my favorite Robert Redford film. Well at least Steven Spielberg won best director for "Schlinder's List.

  • @psychoboysaz Sadly it was the other way round it made Black men feel uncomfortible at the time of the film , it was seen as racist against black men. Many agree it should have many Oscars but politics ....... It's One of the greatest films ever made!.

  • @psychoboysaz this is the same exact reason why it didn't win an Oscar...cause the black bitches are still pulling the racism card after all these decades as an excuse for their short-comings. it's pathetic and ridiculous. if in certain areas black people are not liked is cause they are gettho as hell, rude as hell, and think that because they raise their voice they are right....it has nothing to do with their skin color..it has to do with their attitude.

  • @TarantulaCandy Sometimes there are situations that are racist and unfortunately some people that are not very educated claim something is racist when it is about being or not being smart. I do not think it nice to call any women bitches, that says more about you than them. I am an educated soft-spoken African American, I speak correctly and write correctly because these things are important to me but I also work in a law office and sometimes there are racial issues it does still happen.

  • @TarantulaCandy and we also see these "ghetto" attitudes in white people the same ghetto white people that are on Springer and the rest of those terrible shows. It is not fair or accurate to alienate one racial group when all racial groups have their embarrassments. I think Chris Rock said it best, there are Niggers and there are Black people. I know white niggers, Spanish Niggers, Asian Niggers, that attitude is not exclusive to Blacks.

  • @TarantulaCandy how dare you insult black people. do you think this is funny? huh? do you think that after all that time that an african american deserves to be called a bitch. think about it. and stop knocking them. damn, their's too much hate in the world.

  • @psychoboysaz Don't blame it on the whole white people thing. I love this show and so do all the white people I know.

  • @TasheeJ8 My apologies. That was very racist of me.

  • @psychoboysaz Because Hollywood is and will always be a racist insitution. How Whoopi did not win best actress for this is also beyond me.

  • visit my channel please

  • For me this is one of the best movies of all times! Love IT!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This movie should have had a lot of Oscars - and Whoopi should have had it for "Best Actress"...

    The most unfair Oscar-show ever...!!!

I have watched this movie 20 times - and could watch again right now...

    LOVE IT...!!!

  • "mr...", "mr...senior", harpo, and mr...'s other children all disliked.

  • I wud definitely marry celie if i were a man ! wud give her evrything she wants... <3 :*

  • yes we are here.... and what have we to show of it my beautiful black girls and women, what have we to show about it????

  • One of the better examples of a movie capturing the spirit of a book and the Author's possible intent.

  • <3 whoopi + oprah!

  • My tribute @ my channel! ;D

  • 5 idiots hit the dislike button.

  • LOL "Its been a pleasure meeting all of you. 'Bye."

  • of course ur daddy aint nothing but some dead horseshit!! rotf lmfaooo

  • You know another reason why Celie was able to be free from Albert? To put it in short, Nettie had also sent some letters on how to teach yourself in the ways of Jedi. Celie couldn't necessarily learn much due to the constant Eye of Albert, but she used her Barrier perfectly when she needed it. Thank god for movies like this, and a special nod to Celie and Nettie being Force Adepts. (Non-Serious, I promise you, this movie did a whole LOT more than teach about Force.)

  • my mother cried watching this with me on pbs

  • @cutiefrogskermit As mother & being subjected to physical, emotional, & psychological abuse at the hands of an alcoholic father as a child, I cried too. There's hate & meanness in every color, even white fathers against their wives & children. I watched it yrs l8r w/my oldest when she could understand it & plan to do the same when our youngest is old enough to understand it. She's still a bit too young right now but given enough time, I hope she understands how women were chattel & nothing more.

  • I love this movie.

  • I woulda whooped Danny Glover ass along time ago.

  • @BiiancaRenee his grandmother whooped his ass after this movie came out!!!

  • @1989DaVinci Lmao

  • LOVE THIS PART...LOL

  • no other movie in the world ever touched my heart deeper than the colour purple. it accompanies me since i was a young girl and will always be in my heart as long as I live. blessed the people who invent such stories. they will always be remenbered for their great accomplishments.
