The Color Purple although fiction is based on a true story from Walker's life. Her great-grandfather (white plantation owner) raped her great grandmother. She was only 12. The true events of The Color Purple really have a sad ending but the author gave the story a happy ending. It is sad what the white man did to black people.
She actually says, "get away from you...and INTO CREATION"... This is actually one of the deepest parts of the book. With Mr., she was an object--invisible--dead, but getting away and thus, embracing her own identity, she was 'reborn' you might say.
Shug's husband is seated by Sophia at 6:26, then moves behind Albert at 6:33 - then moves back by Sophia by 6:38. Then peeps back in the room at 7:02. Whew . . . that is quite a bit of moving for on character in one scene. I never quite understood such.

When Steven Spielburg made it to the set they were at the table rocking and he was like WTF! Just film it anyway. ....best move they did.

I love this film! At times I laughed only just seconds before I cried and I felt weird for doing it. I loved Whoopi and Oprah in this film, especially Oprah because I didn't know she was this good in acting!
This movie didn't get Oscars, but its educational value is much more important than any award!

You know another reason why Celie was able to be free from Albert? To put it in short, Nettie had also sent some letters on how to teach yourself in the ways of Jedi. Celie couldn't necessarily learn much due to the constant Eye of Albert, but she used her Barrier perfectly when she needed it. Thank god for movies like this, and a special nod to Celie and Nettie being Force Adepts. (Non-Serious, I promise you, this movie did a whole LOT more than teach about Force.)

There's hate & meanness in every color, even white fathers against their wives & children. I watched it yrs l8r w/my oldest when she could understand it & plan to do the same when our youngest is old enough to understand it. She's still a bit too young right now but given enough time, I hope she understands how women were chattel & nothing more.
no other movie in the world ever touched my heart deeper than the colour purple. it accompanies me since i was a young girl and will always be in my heart as long as I live. blessed the people who invent such stories. they will always be remenbered for their great accomplishments.

I love this film! At times I laughed only just seconds before I cried and I felt weird for doing it. I loved Whoopi and Oprah in this film, especially Oprah because I didn't know she was this good in acting!
This movie didn't get Oscars, but its educational value is much more important than any award!

You know another reason why Celie was able to be free from Albert? To put it in short, Nettie had also sent some letters on how to teach yourself in the ways of Jedi. Celie couldn't necessarily learn much due to the constant Eye of Albert, but she used her Barrier perfectly when she needed it. There's hate & meanness in every color, even white fathers against their wives & children. I watched it yrs l8r w/my oldest when she could understand it & plan to do the same when our youngest is old enough to understand it. She's still a bit too young right now but given enough time, I hope she understands how women were chattel & nothing more.
