  • No point in making this vid... i mean jus grab a fuckin tuner and tune it down... we r not idiots!

  • So easy...why even post this video?

  • @DragonStomp365 You'd be surprised how many that really don't know how to do this. Got this friend who has played for atleast 5 years now. I had to help him tune it back up from drop D after I played on his bass. "It's just drop D." but nothing really connected for him when I said that.

  • i diddent want to watch you tune your guitar for a minute i wanted a tut moron

  • To go into drop D, you tune your E string to D.

    thanks alot.

  • If You Have To Ask is NOT slapped!!

  • redneck much?

  • Its amazing how some people like me have no idea what the key of whatever is, So that makes this video useless for me

  • this isn't really a bass playing technique

  • expertvillage? you mean amateurvillage?

  • fucking show off.

  • i always hold my breath nervously when i tune up cause it seems like a string will pop

  • @llS2639ll haha on my guitars (not bass) i always worry when tuning it down. i've broken more strings going down then up surprisingly.

  • this video sux

  • YOU THINK UR BETTER THEN ME ILL BEAT SOME ASS!

  • on a different video it said that it was 7th fret on A??

  • @theassassin329 it is, this video is just retardedly failish.

  • @chrisjtt509 sorry man i just realised how stupid i was to say that

  • i thought it was only the regular guitar that had to drop d for more modern metal. is it really common for bass to do the same thing?

  • @wildbucky well the bass should be in the same tuning as the guitar, otherwise like in metal, a breakdown usually consists of the lowest chord/note you can play, and if one lowest note is a D, and the bass plays the E, you have a discord, which isnt very cool unless done on higher strings

  • @xchrisx7861 not always. for instance, lets say the guitar is in drop c and you're playing bass in drop d. c and d are in the key of g minor. so the 'discord' is actually solved.

  • thankz, but i fiigured how 2 do it like 5days ago, lol

  • LOVE that bass

  • You could just play a 5 String and get the bonus B,C & Dd as well! :)

  • amen to that

  • wait why couln't you just match up the e and the d string so ones lower and d is slightly higher cuz thats what u do with guitar.. damnit now i'm confused.

  • @youmakemereallyhappy its just u have to match up the sound of the E string with the tone of the A strings fifth fret other then that hes just saying random stuff he just dosnt stick to the subject

  • oh my goodness. i hope, i really hope this is irony.. if it isn't : 5th fret on the a string is a d and open d is a d too ;)

    kinda masterpeace isn't it?

  • noo actually i was being serious... gosh! i just got a bass, and i play guitar so i thought that it was similar so just for my question, u can use the d string to drop d tune the e string? yes? okay then! =)

  • Flea is not slaping in "If you have to ask" xD

  • I hate expert village...

  • WAT? i still dont get how 2 go 2 d tuning

  • this is an old comment but the 7th fret on the E is an A in drop d, so in standard play a 7th fret E and open A and drop the E so its the same note

  • how is 5th fret of A suppose to sound like D?

  • octave?

  • Haha, are you serious?

  • fuck you expert village

  • expert village my ass

  • drop D on a bass is fairly pointless to me, if you want the extra range go get a 5 string

  • you see idiot, not every bassist can easily pull $700+ for a new 5-string bass. So we fucking drop D tune.

really think before you make a post

  • you dont need to play a low D when a guitarist does, play the octave up

  • Thank you so much!

not knowing how to tune to D is so frustrating.

    thanks for putting it simply

  • Were you being serious?

  • THX U THX U THX U

  • How would you drop tune to some stuff like deftones? Is it more processing through pedals and synth that gives it that deep sound? Dub would be another focus as well...getting that deeeeeeeeep ass sound...thanx in advance!_!

  • useless cunt

  • stfu n give me an open string fagget

  • haha i know right!! what douchsauce

  • So like...

Is this what a bass would tune in if a regular guitar was tuned in Drop D?

And does bass do the same thing a regular guitar would in tuning. Like for example, lets say I wanted to tune the bass to Drop D flat, or down a half step ( Db Ab Db Gb Bb Eb), A bass would tune all of it's strings down a half step as well??

  • well you don't have to tune down your bass just because the guitar is tuned down to drop d or whatever you're playing the song in. BUT it will probably be a lot easier for the bass and guitar player to communicate with each other

  • how come it's hard to hear the bass from some bands like slipknot?

  • cause paul gray tunes down really low and so it just sounds muffled and drowned out by the other 8 members

  • so what's the point of having him in the band, if we can't hear him?

  • bass is the foundation

think of it as a wall

    the guitar the bricks

and the bass is the mortat

without bass it just sounds tinny and horrid

  • its an important piece that adds rhythm and beat for the rest of the band, just a quiet funkier drum set!

  • dont diss bass players

  • Because the guitars are so over powered.

  • They have 2 guitars. There blasting and the bass just does low sounds

  • its not you're just an idiot. you probably hear it clear as day but are too dumb to knows the difference between the sound of a bass and guitar.

  • how do you drop d tune the bass with a tuner

  • hold the 5th fret and tune to G.

  • ...really?

  • why would you drop D tune a bass? isn't that for power chording? you might as well tune the whole bass down to standard D. having the bottom string different than the others would screw up my notes. i've got a 5 string, so i guess i dont have to tune down anyway.

  • what if your A string is out of tune? o.o

  • then tune it! i mean come on.

  • ...how do you drop tune c do you need bigger gaged strings?

  • You drop the E string down two steps, and the rest of strings one step. Bigger strings help.

  • drop is C is awesome, man haha, your strings will be wicked loose though, too not feel tht as much would be just going to C standerd or a fun one to experiment would be D standerd but ur in drop C,

  • Easier method, when drop tuning your bass, the 7th fret on the lowest string (Becoming the D string) will be your A note, so just lower your tuning and go by ear. Once the open A string and the 7th fret (Now D string) have the same sound you're tuned.

Standard tuning is simply the 5th fret played against the open of the next string up.

As for Hero's question, there is no "average wattage" as it pertains to what you purchased and what you want. I have a 120 watt amp and 200 wat cab.

  • cool thanks

  • Why not just play the fucking D string instead of 5th fret A??? The harmonic thing just makes it more confusing for most people!

  • becuase by playing harmonics, you cut out the fundamental pitch of the note, so when you play two harmonics at the same time you can here the vibration between them. then you can tune the string till you cant hear the vibration anymore. its really simple you should actually try it. play a harmonic at the 12th e string then a normal note on the 7th fret a string.

  • so how do i do this ive used the A fret thing and it sounds completely wrong so wut do i do

  • play a harmonic at the 12th fret low d string, then play a normal note on the a string 5th fret and it tune till the notes dont vibrate.

  • idk mines 15 and it sounds just fine

  • whats the average amount of watts for a bass amp?

  • i have a 20 and its pretty nice it all depends on what your going to use it for

  • for home practice 40 watts, pub gig 60/80 watts, concert +100 watts (in my experience)

  • what do you need to accomplish with it?

  • Its just that i was looking at the MicroCube RX which is 5 watts and I was wondering if it was good enough just for using at home.

  • no you can also play the D string, because the 5th fret of the A string is a D. the E string must be a D but not in the same octave

    - sorry for bad english

  • so u make the 5th A sound like E?

  • should a bass be in drop d if the guitars in the song are in drop d?

  • usually yes

  • So you play the A string in the 5th fret and the you play the E string and you tighten or losen the E string until it sounds like the 5th fret A?

  • no play the D string and tune the E string to that you should be able to hear when its right... dont tune it to the same pitch as the d string it should be lower

  • then how do you know when it is right if you dont tune them the same pitch

  • it just sounds right... try it

  • tune Low e down till 12th fret on the E is the exact same pitch as open D thats how i do it

  • Werd, I'm not very familiar with black metal bands, but I know for a fact that's it's very uncommon in most death metal bands, although some do use it, such as the almighty Psycroptic.

Best way to find out is just to look up a bunch of tabs and see what people are using, or just figure it out yourself by ear.

  • Thanks

  • i like the my own prison bassline i think thats drop d

  • Quick question,

Why don't you just use the open D string to tune it down instead of the 5th fret of the A string? seems more practical, since you don't have to fret anything.

  • is drop D used in most metal and punk songs?

  • yup

  • Not necessarily, some use them, alot don't.

  • the sound is very weak

  • poop

  • thanks dude I needed that

  • thx for this vid it helped me allot!
