i would love to hear u fade to song in that would be epic, the drums are so good because they are absolutely perfect for the song this doesn't do them justice
I wasnt a drummer when i first heard this, but i heard the ride bell ditto, and how it comes back after the strings and loved it, i dont know or care whether it has any pattern to it, its the variation the makes it.. wierd fishes is probably the song that made me set up the drums, been at it 3 months, your playing very well to my ears, is that index finger supposed to be flapping in the air like that!! how long have you been playing i would like to know??
wait ur left handed. how come ur not playing open handed??? i guess its personal prefrence but i looks really un comfortable, but you should really take advantage of ur left-handed-ness cuz open syled drumming opens up so many crazy possibilitties. i wish i was left handed i spent years training my left hand lead so i could play open style... im not dissing u r' anything i hope u dont take it the wrong way..but ya if you dont no what im talking about look up carter buford. btw nice cover and..
tell me one peice of a drum kit that is asymetrical??
If you dont know what i mean then it probably confirms that you are a half wit!, correct me if i am wrong (what i mean is, why would a left handed drummer be any different? or is he left handed but right footed, in which case i apologise!!)
Sick man! This is one of my favorite songs to play on drums, I just kinda improv to it, don't play the identical beat to the song. I absolutely love your snare though! What type is it?
nice try...thing is that there is no true straight beat in reckoner...but listen closely and you'll get it. Very good bass drum and snare work, but I think that you are missing the bell a bit on the ride symbol. Also, you are working too low on the ride. Hit the bell. close onn Phils subtle 8 stroke rolls. None the less, you are right on. As a drummer with a trained ear and I absolutely love this song for it's ghost beats, it's quite nice.
I'm pretty certain that there's a backing track on the recorded version of this(the Radiohead one you know what I mean), so maybe that's why you're having a tough team getting it just right.
However I wouldn't put it past Phil Selway to do it perfectly live.
I'm not so sure that he does play it this way on the album cut. Maybe, maybe not. I need to take another listen on a better system.
I know this, because I initially played it the way you do in the video on my kit. :) But it isn't exactly right. Upon listening via my PC headphones, I can't really make out the kick hits.
Awesome! I've always been a huge fan of Phil's drumming and was so happy when I heard this song. I play guitar myself but nothing stops me from air drumming this song haha
I love the outro with that slightly syncopated snare roll but I can never find a video of Phil playing it live :\
Sounds pretty damn close man. Good job. Drums are the one instrument I could never play so I'm always impressed by it. That beat sounds so simple, yet it's so complicated.
thanks !! yeah, i agree it sounds simple but it's a bit hard to master it, Phil is the grooviest drummer, almost every Radiohead song has a badass drum groove, always full of feeling.
yeah, he hits the bell of the ride.. and he also plays the bass drum differently on the Scotch Mist and Thumbs Down versions...I'll probably post another take on it playing it like he does on Scotch Mist, its a little easier..
Wouldn't it be easier for you to move the ride to your left side that way you wouldn't have to cross over?
Gretsche87 7 months ago
@Gretsche87 yeah I usually do that.

What I love about this song is that there is a *tiny* pause after the drum "riff" The guy playing this omitted the small pause
maddhattertime 1 year ago
i am right-handed and play the same way becuse 'somehow' its so much easier to me, too : ) Well, i learned playin the drums by myself, do you?
thelessworld 1 year ago
@thelessworld Yea, I learned myself too ! haha

that's a nice break beat but it's not the way the beat of reckoner goes. Nice break in itself, for what that's worth..

umm Nice, but you need to play it with the bell.... listen to the song more carefully. ;)

@JaksProductions
The bell is what makes it come alive.
That song holds alot of nostalgia for me, like returning home after a long time and there is a celebration.

Now you just need two more people do do the marracca's. That was sick man, thats my favorite song and favorite beat ever.
Euntz 2 years ago
one maracca on beats two and four, and one just doing eighth notes and it would be really sick.

Such a great beat, it flows without stopping, I love it!

Are you by chance left handed? I noticed you playing the snare with your right hand, and hit the ride with with your left.
Unless you're just trying to balance your hands by switching which plays which? I do that sometimes..
Pwnzor729 2 years ago
I am right-handed, but the way I learned to play is Left-handed.. weird huh?

say what, thats badass, nice cover tho

this is wrong. not that bad i guess. you gotta get that raw bell sound in there or it's not reckoner!
willmer88 3 years ago
he is playing open handed? if he played the exact same beat with the same hands but on the hi hat instead, would that not be open handed??

Is that a Ludwig Supraphonic snare? Also, I see you're a lefty drummer (crossing over for ride instead of the hats), I play the same way :)

i don't believe it's a Supraphonic.. i know it's an 80s era snare.. yeah the lefty thing is weird cuz i'm right-handed. haha
