I can hear the same sound, though it's not terribly annoying to me. I can tell whether or not the TV is on and muted in the next room. It's a neat trick. But tell your friend this: If he is like me in this, he will probably gradually go deaf after he turns 50, cause he has oversensitive ears, and day to day sounds will slowly deafen him.
