Just had one of these for a rental in WA. My findings: steering was ok, the turning circle is hideous 42 FEET TO TURN AROUND!?!?! The interior quality was pathetic, cheap loose fitting plastic that scratched easily. The power sliding doors were nice, when they worked. With a little over 32K on the van, the power sliding powers would open halfway and get stuck. Powertrain: it strained to get into passing gear, and it shifted with a shudder. Do yourself a favor, get an Odyssey! This is junk!
I looks like the Chrysler Town & Country. It's made by Chrysler, FWI. I love minivans but wel'l never get one because were 4 people so its tooooo big.
VW vans are always so so so underpowered that I could never really consider them when I was in the market for one. I loved my Golfs and my old Rabbit, but they put the same engine in the vans.
If Volkswagen doesn't offer the lifetime powertrain warranty or $3 gas, what's the incentive to buying a Routan over a Caravan or Town & Country? I'm upset with VW about this Chrysler-sharing thing they're doing. They could have at least used their own engines (a TDI would be a cool niche-market van), but I must say it looks a lot better than the Caravan/T&C. Even the 2.0T engine could probably suit this van just fine, and probably would get better mileage than the V6 it has.
I can't believe VW is selling out like this. As far as I do know it does have a crysler engine in it. I am ver disappointed being a big VW fan and as a former German citizen.
have you read about it at all? Thats what everybody's griping about. I talked to a rep at the Intl. Auto Show in Vancouver and I can assure you that unless they make a last minute change it will certainly be a Chrysler powerplant. The same domestic crap that after about 100,000 Km is rendered dead.
I was really shocked at the fact that the power-train will be Chrysler's... Very disappointing news- this coming from a former unsatisfied Dodge owner with the added knowledge of the Caravan's history of transmission failure. Sticking with the Type 2 and the Odyssey as vans of choice
Why?
i hope everyone knows v-dub randomly built this van off the same platform as the dodge caravan, anyone have a CLUE why they did that? most good car companies are now joined with other terrible ones and cheapening up. honda is the only one that's not on board. see what happened to toyota?
I don't understand VW's market strategy. Just when everybody is going to crossover vehicles, they build a classic minivan. C'mon VW, you used to be the innovator, now you're lagging an entire cycle behind the competition. Nice minivan, though. I hope you sell some before the market dries up, giving way to crossover vehicles. Look at the Chevy Traverse, that is your target. Maybe your stategy is to corner the classic minivan market after everyone else stops making them? Bring back the Scirocco!
i may have to burn every single on ei see driving on the road!
i will sacrifice my audi in the name of all that sacred! this is horrible and just downright rude! At least the U.S. will have a diesel minivan now. I drove a Ford Galaxy in Ireland in 2003, 6 spd. manual diesel, got 35 mpg.german quality with turbo diesel ^^ u retard!!! first of all, its a great car and you're wrong. plus you should like rebadged cars that were bad in the 1st place (tahoe - hummer)
OMG although is a rebadged caravan, i think this will sell more than both caravan and tow&country, look sweet, gentle, and big and is a VW. Obviusly VW would do this better if alone but would be too expensive. I think VW should have more products like this, beutiful, more avarage, cheaper but with the VW quality and reability would be excelent.
from what i see it has a loose suspension cuz i see the body moving up and down from looking at the wheels. But I think they need to bring back the bus
I thought that since Volkswagen is going to build a van, at least it will come with that narrow-angled V6, well sadly I was mistaken, it uses Chrysler engines =(. And is it me, or has Volkswagen been running out of names because lately Tiguan, Routan, aren't really catchy at all.
