@Xdoggydog297x making armor is very very hard, it looks easy but if you try it it is very hard, you have to get used to what techniques you do to do what and get a feel for what your trying to do, i.e fluting. With a sword its mainly all in the hilt and getting it balanced, otherwise its rather easy making the blade, just takes time shaping it. Katana is very much a bitch and takes as long to make as a full set of armor would take to make.
I really enjoyed watching all of your videos and I just got a quick question about the edges.. do you just bend totally flat, or just so that the edge goes over and touches the plate again? I can't see it with this 240p..
Thicker armor isn't necessarily better. Fluting and rolling a thinner plate will create stronger "spines" along the line where they are, thus making it possible to have more resilient armor with less encumbrance.
Knowing how it is to fight reenactment battles in 'bout 20kg of armor (that's lightly/medium armored) Encumbrance is an issue worth considering.
Well thanks God for people like them, if not things like space suits and football gear would have came in trail and failure = deaths. So yes seriously.
@Trenasist Why wear two harnesses? Especially a thick one. You'd weigh yourself down, and articulations would bind rather easily.
Medieval man wore what they did for a reason. Re-enactors seems to forget that too often. Armour can be thin and still pierce resistant, especially if heat treated well, or even work hardened. Thicker steel means more weight, and a worse fit often, making you an easy target.
your good verry good. I love your videos and I get alot of information out of them. but do you think you could put a more detailed tutorieal on how to forge a helmet it doesn't matter what kind but preferably an easier helmet for a less skiled smith. Im 14 and just started recently started takeing blacksmith/bladesmith lessons and havent been able to stop swinging the hammer ever since.
Nice bro!! im in the exact same situation except i can't find any local places for lessons(ARGH!!) but i have a small workshop in my garage and i try but i need a real workshop but good luck i hope you find your way through it!
Can't you make a machine to do the bead rolling? using like 2 wheels that bend the metal? or would that just not be as "authentic" or is it harder to use those for Armor?
i am a metalworker who has recently started armoring and i just wanted to say that your videos have been a tremendous help to me.many of the techniques that you show i have been able to learn just by watching you

@mesezso, making armor isn't hard; it's made out sheets. Making a sword is hard. Making a katana is extremely hard.

Armor for show do; you mean like Gothic armor?
Well in fact the decorations on the steel, made the armor stronger with out making it thicker... It is not all for show but for practical reasons...
