If anyone is reading this I really need help for the splits. I want to grow up as a dancer and I still havent found the right method of getting the splits. The splits is one of my most important dreams if anyone has any sugestions of how i should learn them please tell me.
@sapphire26323 Do you have access to a hot tub? Try working on your splits in it. Or warm your body up in the bathtub then as soon as you get out slide as far as you can in to the splits and hold it for a minute. Then at the end of your minute, push it even further even if it hurts. Try putting your arms in the air. When I do the splits, I feel like I might throw up. Just remember that you should be feeling good pain, not bad pain so if you feel like you're going to hurt yourself, stop.
when you go down in the splits you shouldn't keep your feet on the ground you should pop your feet up so its just your heels touching or you ruin your knees and bouncing goodness gracious
When I was younger my teacher always told us to bounce to push the muscle out, which I came to find out was NOT GOOD, don't over work your muscle you can tare it!! then good luck dancing after that. Again I didn't realize this till now! I'm a medical student and learned this!!!
when i was young i went to gymnast classes and we always had a little bounce when we were working on our splits. and was confused when a friend told me not to the other day..... guess i wont be doing that any more
The reason most people tell you not to bounce is because it can make tiny little tears in your muscle tissue and leave scar tissue that is not very flexible so of you choose to bounce do it a little bit for a short time!
NEVER BOUNCE IN STRETCHES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and those are not side splits they are forward splits. and when going down in box splits you go down on your heels with your feet flexed towards the ceiling
eeeeeek never have your knee bent when doing a side split. If you can't do a full side split and can only go a little way make sure your knee is straight. If it isn't then your training your body to bend the knee and thats going to be a bad habit to break whhen your doing leaps and such. It will be more difficult but its better in the long run.
Number one rule!...NEVER bounce though a stretch!! Don't post advice, unless you're certified! Yes, by the way I have certs through ACE, AFA, and many more......
go ahead and bounce while stretching, and get your muscles ruined. Nice advice if you want to cripple someone....Sit down a la second, bend forward to the point it is not giving you muscle ache, relax your upper body, breath deeply, and let gravity do the rest for you.
I know people would say no bouncing lol I'm a dancer too n I can do splits and I didn't really know how to tech my sister how to do it so this kinda helped ;)
Oh c'mon people! Please! This woman doesn't claim to be a master teacher, she's simply showing simple ways to incorporate some moves and learn some basics for modern/lyrical dancing. For someone who needs to just move at home or do an audition for community theater or something, this is perfect and a good start b4 you take classes from a real teacher. Dont' give so much grief~!
Cons: * It looked like she was sickling for a second in the beginning * YES it is BAD to teach anybody (beginner or not) to bounce when stretching. It can cause pulling, tightening of the muscles, and can cause damage if not stetched correctly. Even if she said bounce but did not mean it, she still said it. It went through a thought process and can be percieved as good. Just don't bounce.
*She did just "plop" on the floor whe sitting down.
PROS: *She mentioned not to sickle ( not to turn in your feet) *She mentioned to stretch while doing something that doesnt required you to move ( " rest yourself on your chin, your hands, WATCH TV...") *Believe it or not, she IS pointing her feet (she even tells you too!) *She tells you to ease into our splits slowly *She tells you that the stretch your doing is a russian split ( It's important to know correct terminology!)
So I'm not going to praise this video and defend her teaching methods, but I'm not going to say she has NO idea what she is talking about. I would rather list the pros and cons of this video instead!
this is ignorance, not expertise. One does not 'bounce' to achieve a split. Ballistic stretching produces muscle tears which can lead to chronic problems. One should not stretch to this extent unless completely warmed up either. "Expert" Village? I think not.
bouncing is a great way to pull muscles which i know we all enjoy so much! also when stretching the middle splits dont rest on your elbows stretch your arms forward on the ground to increase the stretch more she looks so lazyyy
For me, I just strech every afternoon after exercising...and yeah, almost into a split. My sister was 13 and she just streched every afternoon and now [14] she can do a full split. Hope to do the same...
NOOOOO never bounce!!! fair enough if she likes to bounce into the strentches herself but this is aimed at beginners and she should not be advising them to bounce! eeeeek!
@Siobhan7100 jesus chirst don't bounce!!!!oh my fucking goooooooooood!!!!!(no seriously i bounced one day while stretching and when i finished i felt pain at the bottom of my spine)
by the way i can give people tips if you really want to know how to do them because i g to the brits school of dance in london and this really isant the way to do them! people DO NOT BOUNCE it can snap ur hamstring or other parts around there, its really not good to bounce if your a bigginer take it slow,or put one leg on ur sofer and the other on the floor and that in that persition for about 10 seconds then do it again. Pm me is u get stuck x
your a beginner, its perfectly fine if you cant do the spits yet. just stretch every day the way she did except DO NOT BOUNCE, like most people already said it can snap your hamstring or rip a muscle. stretch while your watching tv or doing hw if you feel like you dont have time to. you'll be able to do the splits in no time =]
it doesnt hurt to bounce. i agree some ppl learn it and teach it differently. it is necessary to breathe wihile stretching and that should be mentioned but bouncing is pretty safe considering your doing the bouncing you know your limit. its not like someone is jumping on your shoulder and pushing you down.
it is best practice to breathe into a position, not bounce. inhale, go down a little farther, and as you go down, exhale, keep repeating it until you get to your maximum stretch. keep breathing. this is lazy dancing. and will not help you. bouncing into a stretch is not correct and will cause an injury!
everyoneneeds to shut up about the bounce because some peoplestetch differently than others, obviously she's not tearing any muscles apart and my mom taught me how to do a split, she said she learned by bouncing and she took dance and martial arts for years
calm down everyone. She said the word bounce but she didn't move much. During the straddle, she didn't bounce at all. She only said the word bounce. It helps to think about bouncing even though you shouldn't actually bounce.
bounce causes the stretch reflex (muscles tightening) to increase.... if yhur muscles are getting more tight while your legs are getting farther apart ... what do you think is going to happen?
i know everyone says not to bounce these days but people like margot fonteyn, rudolph nureyev, baryshnikov, (all who we now call some of the greatest dancers ever) lived in an age when bouncing when stretching was the norm and look how they turned out.... i think its just health and safety gone mad personally!
lexlovely is right. bouncing is definitely not a good idea and will rip your muscle. what you SHOULD do is go down until it starts to hurt and hold for a while. this holds the stretch and does not injure you. the worst thing, your hands will get ried from holding and you might be a little sore the next day
OMG she bounced :| that is soooo bad for your muscles yuour should just do that and wait for 8 seconds n that position then go a bit further wait again and come up and do it again and go further every time.. btw that is not a split
i am not trying to be mean but as a proffecinal gymnast that is not the splits cause you have to go all the way down i knowthis sounds kinda gross but your pe pe is supposed to be touching the floor
A PROFFESSIONAL does not say pe pe. And yes, it is supposed to be touching the floor, but not everyone can right away. Splits does not mean go all the way down, splits is just that position. I know she is wrong in every way, but don't lie.
As a professional dance educator, this makes me shudder. Stretches, particularly extreme streches like these, should NOT be bounced. In order to increase flexibility, the twitch reflexes in the muscles need to be able to relax. Bouncing causes the muscles to fire and WILL NOT increase flexibility. And when done by beginners, (who this video seems to be targeting), bouncing like this can easily lead to pulled muscles.
And, by the by, lyrical and modern are COMPLETELY different dance forms.
i am taking a modern dance class as a beginner and my teacher goes to fast and doesnt do spacifices when we stretch so thankies so much for the instructions ^^
This is inproper stretching. This video should be removed. Splits should not be bounced and they should not be in the beginning or middle of a warm-up!
Bouncing is the WORST thing you can do for your muscles...they can tear if you do that. "Sliding" can also tear your inside thighs...ouch..this lady needs to get off the internet!
For me., instead of bouncing i do a light push because it does hurt as much., byt hey teach its own.

i am not trying to be mean but as a proffecinal gymnast that is not the splits cause you have to go all the way down i knowthis sounds kinda gross but your pe pe is supposed to be touching the floor

your just looking for people to insult

This is inproper stretching. This video should be removed. Splits should not be bounced and they should not be in the beginning or middle of a warm-up!

Hola

Bouncing is the WORST thing you can do for your muscles...they can tear if you do that. "Sliding" can also tear your inside thighs...ouch..this lady needs to get off the internet!
