  • amazing work XD

  • you make it look so easy... guess i gotta keep practicing

  • WOW

  • Hey everyone, anybody know (no PC) how to increase/decrease brush size with a shortcut? I've read many places that say the " [ " and " ] " brackets, but they just don't seem to work on my end. Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

  • shuld used nuke or AE

  • nice worck!

  • COOL

  • wich is the name of the song???

  • very good tutorial, it explain all steps, thanks for posting it

  • Would have been better to have a commentary and taken it slower.

  • There is a slower version with commentary. The link is in the description to this video.

  • Thank you so much! This tutorial is awsome!!

  • nice realy nice you teacht me some new styles:-D

  • Comment removed

  • that is really nice, you've inspired me do more "set extensions" in my movies with the help of using matte paintings. thank you.

  • Well done! But what have I to do, to get this great refelexions of the bridge and the sky in the river?

    Greetings from Germany!

  • It's quite easy really. Just copy the bridge and sky, flip them vertically and reduce the layer opacity. I then use the eraser to remove any parts that overlap the waterside.

Hope that helps. I also used an alternative water picture to give it a different texture. I describe it in more detail on my website.

  • Thank you! (=

    I think this will help.

I was too slow. By now, I visited your website.

  • can anyone tell me the name of the artist music played the first one especially thanks!

  • It's by Virgill and Cons and the track is called "Like a Childbirth".

If you run a google search you can download it for free.

  • are you using some plugins? I have photo shop but i cant seem to find the effect u used in 0:18.

  • It is a standard filter with Photoshop CS2 upwards called "Extract", but I'm not sure if it's available on previous versions.

  • I am using CS4 seems like Adobe has removed the the extract filter because of their new smart want tool. Thanks for the reply your work is very inspiring

    cheers!

  • Thank you!

I didn't know they'd replaced the Extract tool in CS4, but it should mean that the new one is better...in theory. :)

  • Also is there anyway i can download a high quality of this tutorial at a slower frame rate lol. :)

  • Wow, I was just about to type that you should charge for your tips- until I visited your site and saw the even more impressive photo-realistic digi paintings...

Needless to say, I paypal'ed my 10 bucks immediately. And I feel guilty for it being that cheap. With that said- you're a great person. Thanks a lot. Looking forward to the dvd.

  • Thank you! I'm so glad you like my tutorials and I really hope the DVD meets your expectations! :)

heu do you have a deviantart ?

if yes give me the link please !

    have a nice day

  • It's sad that so many stock sites want you to pay or don't give you any freedom to use it.

I am on deviantart. You can find me under the name devotion-graphics (sorry, youtube doesn't allow links in comments).

  • and tell me please where did found this destruction stock ? they very cool In sxh ?

    devinantart ?

thanks to answer to my question ;)

  • Most of the stock I use comes from "stock.xchng". You have to sign up, but all stock is free and there aren't too many restrictions.

I also have a friend who takes a lot of industrial and destruction photos, which helps.

Thank you for the kind comments. Glad you like the vid!

  • haha very good man that's beautiful :=)

you teach me some greats thecniques in mattepainting !

    thatkls huge video

  • This = Epic. :D I wish I had photoshop, but I only have GIMP

  • best ever !!!!

  • nice but what you mean with matte? ;)

  • hey do you think you could make a vid of making a car with flat black matte paint?

  • Either way, (painting from scratch or using photos) you still have to have an incredible eye and artistic judgement.

    I'm impressed.

    Mad props!

  • Thanks man! I appreciate that. :)

  • So I skipped through all 3 of these and I am still utterly confused. Is matte painting just painting over a photograph/a series of photographs you put together? I've been looking for the answer for some time, and I can't believe that's all it is. I honestly thought people begun from scratch with some amazing amount of talent, but it's just painting over some photographs? I don't think I want to be a matte painter anymore. :(

  • Yes, matte painting does rely heavily on photographs, but the idea is more about getting the job done than about artistic talent.

Painting from scratch is a LOT harder of course, but when you're working professionally you just need to get results as quick and as effectively as possible.

  • Ah, I see. I just never knew - I think I will actually try it in the future and see what comes out of it, thankyou for the reply. :)

  • Nicely done, but you should start using your keyboard for editing. It's much faster than slecting everything from the menu imo...

    Thanks for the vid!

  • Yes, you are right, but I tried to use the pulldowns more in this video so everyone could see what I was doing.

Then again, I don't use the keyboard as much as I should anyway. :)

  • nicely done

and yes shortcuts are the way to go ehj :) assuming you using a tablet aswell?

  • This one was done all with a mouse, but I've started using a tablet for my painting work more now. I couldn't live without it! :)

  • Once I started using a tablet, I never went back to using paper. My question about matte is copyrights, I'd like to use photos, even faces of public figures. However , these wouldn't be taken by me. What can you use from, say, a newspaper photo? The entire publication is copyrighted. If I made a composite from 10 pictures, would I just be in 10 times the trouble?

  • I always assumed that you could never use copyrighted photos in a commercial piece of work, but then I found out that a lot of professionals take images straight from Google. I can't say for certain, but I believe it's acceptable to use these images in your work as long as they're not distributed in their original form.

Personally, I prefer to use stock photos where there are no copyrights. It's safer. :)

  • I agree with that

  • this is realy unordinary. i like what u did with the water.

    music is relaxing too.

  • copy and paste...copy and past.e....copy and paste.....kool but nothing too impressive

  • you sir.... are an ignorant....

  • This is absolutely amazing. I've been working my ass off in photoshop to get to a point where I can make one of these. The only problem the mouse will make it really hard. 5*

  • I bow down to your skill. I thought I was getting the hang of photoshop, but now I realize I know next to nothing

  • Geez...big WOW and shocked of your ideas , you have got great stock images to do this.

    Respect xD

  • nice !! my bros name is matte hahaha

    well done for the art

  • super

  • Aaaaahhhh I DOnt Get It What Is Matte Painting and how too use it and which program?

  • matte painting is and technique for creating graphics, its not only static 2d but also a mix of quite everything,photomaniuplation,3d,illustration,composing and animation, you can try doing it in any photoshop like program, try googling for it

  • Absolutely amazing! I never thought to use reference photos to that effect. The reflection in the water was particularly clever, though I couldn't quite follow exactly how you did it. You're obviously using lots of masks and layer transforms, but I'm so dumb I'd need a step by step guide.

The music was really nice as well, what is it?

  • amazing stuff

  • Is Amazzing!

  • Awesome stuff... saw this picture on digitalart, and then found these tutorials on your site. Keep up the great work!

  • If you're just watching casually I suggest skipping to the 3rd vid. The first two are just groundwork and are best followed in the context of the tutorial.
