If finger tapping is so easy,let's see you do it half as good as him.............and if he's not that great a song writer,how is it that they sold millions of albums,and had multiple no. 1 hits?............I do agree with you in the sense that EVH is the father of moder guitar though.......
I am a hige Van Halen fan but he isn't like a great songwriter, I love a lot of there songs, and I too wish i could write like that, but he's nothing compared to like Jimmy Page in song writing ability

I kind of agree with einshuldigen is some ways.
Eddie is wicked wicked cool, buthe isn't that that great of a songwriter and finger tapping isn't very difficult.
But, Eddie opened so many doors for modern guitarists, so he is special in that sense.

I don't think he is a horrible songwriter.

according to plenty of people he made rock what it is today with his shredding, tapping, and solos. he is also very inspiring. just look at his son.
