I agree with you about the separation of church and state. It is the only way to preserve civil liberties.
The more fundamentalists Christians are quick to say that this nation was founded on "Christians principles."
But what they forget is that those founders were ESCAPING religious persecution - the KIND of persecution that comes with any fusion of church and state.
I always found it kind of funny that we keep calling ourselves "A Christian Nation" and referring to ourselves as "One nation under God," when one of the reasons the country was established, was to break away from that kind of Theocratical mindset *cough* Britain. And now Britain is being far more progressive than us in the Chruch and State area, while we are trying to become a theocracy.
So, if there will be biblical rule, will there be stonings? Killing of disobedient children? (pull in the rest of Leviticus, why don't you). No, religion and politics simply do not mix, and I find it ludicrous that an atheist, wiccan or even a satanist cannot hold office as a president. We have religious parties here in Holland, but an atheist has as much of a chance to get into office in the government as a religious person, and that's how it should be.
@coolvibe1975 I agree that religion should not be a staple for our leaders. No wonder we've been held back for long! (And it is only going to get worse thanks to the media)
Wouldn't it be amazing if the media started examining the size of each branch of religion (Catholic, Baptist, Muslim branches, ...) It would help secularism out tremendously. They would start battling one another for who has the better translation and have a harder time seeping into government under one big umbrella.
If the politicians really ran according to Gods word. There be no mud swinging, and things would get better. Because there is proof of Jesus and that means christianity is real so God is real and only he can help this dying nation. Ideals and wrong acceptations wont do this country any good.
@raquel372534 I'm not looking to start an outright argument, hon, but what evidence do you have of the existence of jesus? Besides that, something tells me you did not watch this whole video. I am not trying to squash faith or religion, merely the use of it in the political realm- and I feel my reasoning here is pretty damn understandable.

@sparton1199 I have to do that every so often. I love to stay current, but the overall stupidity of society in general can frustrate me to no end. I honesty get more upset that informed a good portion of the time! I'll watch for a day or 2, and then stay back for a week or so. It's an odd way to get info, but the easiest to keep my sanity!
I wonder when people will realize that religion is a dying way of trying to convince people into anything. I live in the bible belt in the southern states and even here there are more agnostics and atheists appearing than Christians or really any other religions. I personally don't have anything against Christians (except for bible belters) however many Christians seem to force their ideals into every situation and of course are turning people off to the religion.
@MrFutureseer Very much so! I used to think it was the religion itself that I despised, but I realize now it is not the religion itself, but a select few practitioners of that religion that turned me off. I have to remind myself of this, as there are some pretty awesome Xtians out there.
I wish I could've known you in highschool. oh and I bet that the runners also say their religion to get votes.

it AMAZES me that even many religious people cannot see the wisdom of a secular state.
