It may not have been a Co2 extinguisher. Fuel fires usually require a different type of extinguisher like AFFF or PKP which will definately require a rebuild if it gets in the intake mani. Typically a fire occuring on a drag strip will be a fuel fire so thats probably what the official grabbed.

Prolly dont want fire extinguisher stuff all down the manifold.Let it burn out and replace some hoses,spray that stuff in the engine and who knows,possible rebuild.

Don' you use CO2 extinguishers in the states ?
Short sharp blast of CO2 on a carb fire or anything like that. no mess and deffo no rebuild.
