I love that little girl! That is a great ideal! I think more parent, care givers, AUNTS, need to talk to these CHILDREN!
Personally I did not know I was "BLACK" until I was 24. Well let me clarify that.... I did not know BEING BLACK bothered other people until I was 24. Until then I can honesty say I did not experiences racism.
This is a fantastic approach to letting our children know that they have the ability to come up with their own ideas, and not let popular beliefs sway them in the wrong direction.
I found out when blacks entered my school in 7th grade. School went from a learning fun place to hell on earth. All they did was throw rocks at us, dare us to fight & watch to catch us to beat us up. Distrubed clases all the time. I thought, ok. Blacks fight for equal rights which they should have had from the get go. But, instead of acting human they acted like animals. Now they have the rights but don't respect them. Most anyway
I was never aware of racism up until fourth grade. I loved the backstreet boys back then so this white girl and I were discussing how cute they were, how good they sing. The white boy that sit next to us asked "You like backstreet boys?" When I said yes he said "But you're black." I was so shocked and didn't know what to say. Never had someone tell me before that I'm black like there was something wrong with that. For a long time I never admitted liking anything about white people in public.
@TonyaTko Ever since that incident I started noticing every little thing about how white people are being racist towards blacks. How they talk down to me or look at me a certain way. But now I realize the more I dwell on what people think about me and how they talk to me, the more I lose my self-esteem and self-worth. I'm still more comfortable being around black people but I no longer think white people are better than me because skin color doesn't make the person, character does.
This is a misunderstanding about the brain, that we only use 5% - 15% of it at any given time, so people think we can somehow "unlock" the rest. The simple fact is every part of the brain takes a set of duties or responsibilities. You can't run, sing, converse, draw a painting, feel pain or fear, and solve a logical problem all at the same time. If you can, however, then we can assume that you are using most of your brain resources, but that doesn't make you any smarter, it makes you stranger.
WOw thats how my daughter saw things so i decided to show her our history and speak to her about adult concepts... I agee sis 100% stay beautiful.......
@coptersoisoi There is no way she came to this on her own about another human being. Kids just accept without prejudice until someone introduces them to prejudice. Maybe from television, (all of the negative images of black people) or from the adults around her who say nasty things about others who are darker. I have 3 kids, (2 dark and 1 light) They never talk or think about skin color. I forbade the subject when they were young.
I think the reason why black people learn to hate each other from an early age is: they live in a predominantly white society and they get exposed to white prejudice. They emulate the bigotry of white racist people. I'm not saying that it's white people's fault that this happens. I'm saying that this is mental conditioning and it can be just as easy to UNLEARN this kind of thinking. I think a lot of black Americans have learned to value themselves based on what white people think of them.

I don't think kids can handle it. you got to crawl before you can walk and children don't have the experience that adults, have, I agree with you, but I've have notice that kids don't think the same way adults do, Kids believe in magic.
This is cute and pleasant, but I do not believe that philosophy should be taught to children. You need to experience the world to a certain extent before you can began to "philosophize" about the world.
@Imforeverone88 honestly speaking Forever188, children Already use philosophy. They know how to analyze and interpret and are curious naturally. They know how to behave and with whom based on formulation of theories gathered during observation and tested etc. Children are very astute. Its really a matter of honing this natural ability.
@TonyaTko Children are still quite unaffected and untainted by the strands of higher education, life in general in its various manifestations. Although by nature children are inquisitive, I believe that we are stretching the context of their inquisition by calling it "philosophizing". Out of their childlike natures, children will respond to questions asked, but not because they have a true understanding of the subject matter. Everything out of the child's mouth will be a plain observation in...
@ TonyaTko (con't) a filter of inexperience. That is why the beautiful child here says that because a classmate is very black, she is scary, because she has not learned that "scary" or nasty or mean, or rude people come in all colors and all shapes and sizes. Now had she had more experience in this wicked world, she would have known this, but she needs time. Philosophy requires experience in order to better sift through the reasoning precepts of possibilities through question and answer.
@Imforeverone88 I hope you realize that her distaste for Darker people but none for lighter or whiter people is a direct result of her processing information from this society. Images in the media, books, and the deducing of certain characteristics attributed to people she may have seen on newspaper covers or the News on TV. Images of shiftless violent ignorant scary Blacks & clean, smart, sophisticated, happy "whites."
@TonyaTko I agree, the media has that influence and effect, but deductive reasoning is not the same as philosophy even though philosophy does incorporate deductive reasoning. I am not trying to argue about this point, I am simply pointing out that the mind has to be developed to make mature and in-depth analysis of the timeline know as life.
Philosophy is the study of general and fundamental problems, such as those connected with existence, knowledge, values, reason, mind, and language. It is distinguished from other ways of addressing such problems by its critical, generally systematic approach and its reliance on rational argument. The word "philosophy" comes from the Greek (philosophia), which literally means "love of wisdom", and was originally a word referring to a way of life.
@Imforeverone88 I pasted that summary of philosophy from Wikipedia because i wanted to make sure that it was understood what i'm about to talk about. In a sense i agree with you, IF you are stating that /formal/ Philosophy shouldn't be taught to kids. But only for the same reason that you don't try to teach a 5 yr-old how to normalize a vector to a plane, or try to get them to construct a riemann space. But ...
@Imforeverone88 ... i have seen first-hand the advantages of being introduced to philosophy at a young age. If not for this, the negative factors in my life (of which there were many along the way) would likely have guided me down the wrong path. I'd probably be one of "those people" you shake your head at when watching the evening news. Instead, i'm making positive contributions to our world. Our children are what we make of them. ...
@Imforeverone88 Children use the mechanics of philosophy naturally (as TonyaTko pointed out). If parents and guardians can guide this natural tendency toward something healthy, then the child is more likely to grow up with healthy (and robust!) thought processess and critical thinking skills. Many people (too many, imo) submerge their kids in religion and religious teaching from the very day they are born. Perhaps if they would do that with math, science, and philosophy, America would ...
@Imforeverone88 ... be better off now. Perhaps we would be known to the world as a nation of great thinkers, scientists, innovators, and producers of quality goods. It's true that we have a relative few such people. But mostly we are known as a nation of mostly consumers, with a few rich playboys. We are seen as having a military that likes to police the world. All this while the Dollar continues to lose value each year. We have many people who are trying to make America better and keep it ...
@Imforeverone88 ... free. But these 10's of thousands of people are trying to do the work of 100's of millions. We need the ENTIRE nation - nay, the entire WORLD - to get behind these efforts, to get involved, to get mad, to get smart. We need people to listen and take action. But too many people are deaf to the problems of our world because, lacking the proper training as children, as adults their minds refuse to accept certain information.
@Imforeverone88 I'm not trying to give you a hard time. But when i hear someone say that we shouldn't teach kids philosophy, that just really sets me off. Philosophy is about knowing yourself. It is about becoming aware of the real you. If people wait to start exploring this topic until college, then they've already absorbed a lifetime (18 to 20 yrs for most) of external infulences telling them who they are. Then they turn 40 and realize that their whole life has been a lie. (mid-life crisis.)
@TonyaTko I'd go as far to say that the word 'black' alone conjures up these images of gloom and darkness and death. That how it's defined in the dictionary, right above where it says it's also a term for sub-saharan African people! Blackmail, Black-out, The 'Black Death', Black Sunday, Black Market, Black Hole - these are phrases we hear everyday from very early in our lives. People in Africa would have never have thought to call themselves black before contact with Europeans.
@TonyaTko Everyone uses Philosophy. I don't think that kids should be taught Philosophy. As the person mentioned below, crawl before you walk. Some things can't be taught or shouldn't be at least. It should come from "understanding/experience."
What is happening with United States of America people, you can't see all these people are blacks. What is the problem with that, during generation by generation we can se the racial intolerance in USA; when you see a black man with a black woman right away you see them, because you disapprove that kind of relationship. The white American people hate nigros, and the relationship among blacks and white is absolutely hypocrisy
Omgoodness, that's so sad! I mean that was shocking! I mean, not to be mean (and I mean no disrespect at all), but does her mother realize her view on black people? Come to think of it though, my aunt was telling me how my sister doesn't think she's black either (she's very light-skinned though), she considers herself brown and I mean if she has two black parents, she should identify herself as black. Wouldn't that make sense. Oh and mom told me that homeless people were bums too, lol.
In addition, gens-whoever. Genetically and anthropologically, we were all black people once --- that includes you. And if you don't understand the science, look it up.
@carolharveysf question is do you understand the science, think about it today Black Africans resemble the hominid ape we all evolved from Science has also proven that Africans compared to other races have stronger bone density, longer limbs, different skeletal structure &skull & the facial features. yes we were all hominid apes then we became negro's then later we evolved into northern europeans/Arabs/far easternasianect which means the 100% full nativeAfricans are lesser evolved.
@gensnormannorum: Who do you think you are demanding any kind of response from me. You are an abusive racist. I don't like your assaultive attitude. I don't truck with white racists. Your heads are concrete, impossible to penetrate with truth. Here's my only response: White people learned to be predators to survive in the cold North. That's why they attack loving, giving brown people everywhere, taking what they want without permission. Thank God, my white family escaped. We are human.
Wow, excellent video! It makes me sad that people even at her age have preconceived notions about skin color. I wish the world could be blind for a day then it truly wouldn't matter what skin color you have because no one would see. Then maybe we could really start to see each other. Peace friend
hell... i love being black dammit... fuck shit... if i was any other color... i wouldn't like myself cuz its so fucking plain.... im black and im proud dammit.... i love my skin color.... I LOVE my skin color dammit
Color doesn't mean anything to heart, humans everything are the same basically no matter conditions to live, educate, influence, earn, though by time and self, they start to select who and what they follow because many humans are scared not to follow, especially while it decides material and position etc in reality they could gain by following no matter right or wrong, why this world is like that, because parents start teaching how to follow since baby, don't give a sh* to those, it is rubbish.
Seeing this reminds me of how I was when I was a kid. I wasn't aware of my skin color until someone older than me pointed it out. I knew I was different among other kids (I'm African-American). I used to be fine with myself. But the environment I grew up in basically showed that being dark skinned is unwanted or looked at as ugly. Its been rammed into my head so much now it has effected me personally. I have a bit of self hate due to it and I'm trying my hardest to remove it.
Keep working, don't give up, you know you are beautiful regardless of your skin tone. If God created you and allowed you to be alive this day and time, reading my comment, He obviously knows that you are beautiful to behold.
This was delightful. Great communication between an adult and a child. But, I worry about Tiara's fear of black people. I think this conversation might get her thinking about that, so she might not be afraid of black human Beans.
Why is it do YOU think there is not one single country or community where blacks are in control or in the majority that isn't an absolutely fetid craphole of violence, filth and disease? Why is it do YOU think it is only where blacks are a distinct minority that they mirror the higher moral consciousness of the majority around them and excel in their life and endeavors? You're a "journalist/artist," I want to hear a right-brained response.
Native Americans (Indians, Olmecs, Nubians, Califas, Washitaws) died of disease brought to America by the sick white/indentured servants and white tyrants. The Jew spearheaded the slave trade, according to government records in Virginia and Maryland. The Slave Trade was not about race, but financial and political gain.
how sharp this child is noticing doing the same everyday go to work come home do it all over again etc. knows for now that is the odds. she is no dummie. excellent questions auntie.
its saddening though, that she learned to have an irrational prejudice towards the darker girl in her class. Kids arent naturally born that way, they learn it from adults.
This "white/light is right" mentality will give her a false and unsteady sense of supremacy and self worth if left alone, and it will damage the self esteem of the darker girls she interacts with. Its a cycle that we create. I hope Tiara knows that shes prettiest when she's happy just being herself! :)
i think the child just assumed it was human BEANS instead of human beings... no fit teacher in a school setting would tell their students we came from beans... its just the childish things kids say.
If anything, schools tend to shy away from "controversial" things because parents are hypersensitive these days.
you people are way off man...the lowland mountain gorilla is the most ferocious of the primates and chipanzees, new world monkeys all fear him...he is black as night in his face...the indigenous African tribes fear him...this cute little girl has what all man has...a fear from attack a genetic memory going back millions of years, its in all of us...
I agree with everything you said. Children are our future and if more people could think like you the world would be more peaceful. I'm gonna start teaching philosophy to my younger siblings.
African-Americans usually think that racism and slavery are connected. Well usually they were not. Slavery was universal phenomenon.
White people are not to be blamed for slavery. Whites bought slaves from African nations because they were still practicing slavery and Native Americans died of diseases. But of course there were also Native American slaves. Anyway it was just more powerful nation conquering weaker nation and enslaving them.
By the way, before the Europeans enslaved black people, for thousands of years empires in the middle East, Arabs and other such peoples all enslaved each other, not just blacks. Racism doesn't just count as toward blacks. Nor have blacks had the worst types of slavery. Study Ancient History and its parts about Slavery, slavery doesnt exist because of racism, it exists because one guy's army conquered the other guy's army and took everyone prisoner. Enough Said.
@Yuilen You could just read the Bible and get that- but I must say that in America, it is the first time one has been enslaved in a country where the very ruling authority proclaims that all men are created equal with certain inalienable rights.
@Imforeverone88 It is not the first time. That proclamation was in the revolution days, and it took another 100 years for slavery to be abolished. Before they recognized that black people are humans too.
And then for women to have equal rights, it took nearly 200 years.
There's no such thing as "inalienable". Otherwise, we wouldn't be having this immigration problem.
Philosophy isn't taught. Philosophy is a malady that after impinging upon, it inflicts, infects the inquisitive mind. One does not seek after it therefore it cannot be brought(taught) to you. It comes to you.
Still it comes not from whence....it is there, not to be revealed but to reveal.
Philosophy is what slackers do to avoid doing real work. thinking about bull sh!% and how it applies to them. Waste of friggin time. OUR people need to be taught what to do and when to do it.
Of COURSE! I LOVEEE Drum music! Especially when you add some trumpets, percussion & other acoustics. Amazing!
I love the pulse-racing, hip swinging, heart pounding, body-bumping beats coming straight out of the mother land, so ur damn right if some throbbing drum rhythms swelled thru the air, I'd start moving & shaking, rolling my body & hips
The fact that you dont appreciate it, spks more of your insipid pale existence than anything else. I nvr 4get I am AFRIKAN in diaspora! what r u?
@TonyaTko This is cute and pleasant, but I do not believe that philosophy should be taught to children. You need to experience the world to a certain extent before you can began to "philosophize" about the world.
I've never understood why philosophy isn't taught beginning in grade school. It makes so much sense, especially the teaching of logic. I don't think they teach critical thinking in high school anymore.
Basically, because most have their own religion, and their religions have their philosophies. Plus, I don't think most communities would allow it, because first it's a fight in school over philosophy, then theres protests over it.
Oh yeah its sad that in this society and almost every society dark skin is looked at as a disadvantage. Parents please teach your children that no matter what your skin is we all are connected in the fabric of humanity !
nd i hate when peole tell me i dont act black. like wtf... like sorry i speak english and enjoy all kinds of music. so to black i most say yo, dog, nigga and only like rap and r&b sorry i dont want to limit my slef 2 that
I too am an african american and speak normally. I listen to jazz and rock and i get confused responses. I hate rap becaues of the languge and can never bring myself to say the "n" word. This is what makes me unique and me. No one can take that away.
i dont know how many videos you have, this is the first one ive seen. but it would be nice to see you ask several kids these questions, it would be interesting to see what they would say.. kids are so innocent to the world. If you can think back to when your were a child and saw the world, and the way you see it now. It is rather depressing. your niece is sooo cute. Shes not worried about the world, shes worried about playing! Adorable
wow...amazing video...real eye opener...and children are getting smarter...they look at actions more closely than they listen to words or advice...so we as adults need to practice wat we preach...coz tehy are watching us
The little girl says she's brown, not because she is ashamed of her race, but simply because she literaly is brown.
If you take a [brown] crayon and put it next to her skin, its gonna be an excact match [brown] She is just telling you what color her skin is [Brown].... Keep in mind she is only 6 years old, she doesnt know anything about race or racism. You ppl are pathetic!
Calling the little girl names is way out of line and uncalled for.
I know, it's ridiculous...we have people with brown skin calling themselves "black", and if they don't call themselves black, then they're crazy or something, when clearly their skin is literally the color brown.
Well, I agree with you about kids learning philosophy, Tonya. I think its a good idea. At some age kids are natural about asking questions that we as adults think of as being deep. It may be more true to say that they are basic. I do think it is kind of weird, and tragic that people have a tendency to place themselves in a kind of rank with others based on physical characteristics which are superficial. Accurate and respectable words for the differences are hard to settle on.
Is that how you want to mess up the poor child's mind?
It's like the way that children should not know about sex, they are too young for that. They shouldn't be thinking about this on a deep level either? It's okay to ask if you're curious about their opinion but not expect them to form strong opinions and get really thinking deeply about it. It's just completely wrong and cruel to the children. You need to stop.
I think this is a load of nonsense. That would mess up the children's minds. No-one knows why we are here and you want to get kids thinking about this? There a child genius who took an interest in philosophy and it totally messed him up, children are meant to be innocent and not have to worry about anything, the moment you get them theorizing, that's the end, it'll give them depression and depression in adulthood is bad enough.
Why does thinking about the world and the meaning of our existence get you depressed? You are clearly just emotionally unstable and you have your own personal issues to deal with, that you are trying to project onto this little girl.
Not everyone has mental issues, getting depressed over the thought of existence, why we are here, what is right, what is wrong, and how we should treat others.
ya by the way (dimebeats) i think you R a lonly person and you dont deserve to live , and a person like you will never have eney kids , calling a 6 year old kid a jerk , i mean what the hell !
maybe your good with hiding behind the screen typing what you want , come meet me face to face , ill break your neck for saying that . A . H.
the wright answer is: god putt us in this earth to worship him and pray to him and in the end we die , and eather we go to heven or hell , earth is no more than a test to us human BEANS . eather you pass it or you dont , make the right move , islam is the right answer...
Your neice is bright. She just has a long ways to go in this world. I was like her tthat age. it is good you are educating her by giving her more knowledge, wisdom, and understanding.
Please dont talk about her that way... not only was she 6 at the time, and not only is she a child, but she is also my niece.
Children merely regurgitate what they were taught somewhere... much like you, who somewhere along the line learned it was appropriate to call children out of their names.
wow. i love this. haha this is just great. I feel like im in TOK (theory of knowledge) class rt now

Deductive reasoning 101
-Tko
TonyaTko 1 year ago
@TonyaTko I agree, the media has that influence and effect, but deductive reasoning is not the same as philosophy even though philosophy does incorporate deductive reasoning. I am not trying to argue about this point, I am simply pointing out that the mind has to be developed to make mature and in-depth analysis of the timeline know as life.

@Imforeverone88 Copied from Wikipedia:
Philosophy is the study of general and fundamental problems, such as those connected with existence, knowledge, values, reason, mind, and language. It is distinguished from other ways of addressing such problems by its critical, generally systematic approach and its reliance on rational argument. The word "philosophy" comes from the Greek (philosophia), which literally means "love of wisdom", and was originally a word referring to a way of life.
vclxrr 1 year ago
@Imforeverone88 I pasted that summary of philosophy from Wikipedia because i wanted to make sure that it was understood what i'm about to talk about. In a sense i agree with you, IF you are stating that /formal/ Philosophy shouldn't be taught to kids. But only for the same reason that you don't try to teach a 5 yr-old how to normalize a vector to a plane, or try to get them to construct a riemann space. But ...
vclxrr 1 year ago
@Imforeverone88 ... i have seen first-hand the advantages of being introduced to philosophy at a young age. If not for this, the negative factors in my life (of which there were many along the way) would likely have guided me down the wrong path. I'd probably be one of "those people" you shake your head at when watching the evening news. Instead, i'm making positive contributions to our world. Our children are what we make of them. ...
vclxrr 1 year ago

We have many people who are trying to make America better and keep it ...
vclxrr 1 year ago
@Imforeverone88 ... free. But these 10's of thousands of people are trying to do the work of 100's of millions. We need the ENTIRE nation - nay, the entire WORLD - to get behind these efforts, to get involved, to get mad, to get smart. We need people to listen and take action. But too many people are deaf to the problems of our world because, lacking the proper training as children, as adults their minds refuse to accept certain information.
vclxrr 1 year ago
@Imforeverone88 I'm not trying to give you a hard time. But when i hear someone say that we shouldn't teach kids philosophy, that just really sets me off. Philosophy is about knowing yourself. It is about becoming aware of the real you. If people wait to start exploring this topic until college, then they've already absorbed a lifetime (18 to 20 yrs for most) of external infulences telling them who they are. Then they turn 40 and realize that their whole life has been a lie. (mid-life crisis.)
vclxrr 1 year ago
@TonyaTko I'd go as far to say that the word 'black' alone conjures up these images of gloom and darkness and death. That how it's defined in the dictionary, right above where it says it's also a term for sub-saharan African people! Blackmail, Black-out, The 'Black Death', Black Sunday, Black Market, Black Hole - these are phrases we hear everyday from very early in our lives. People in Africa would have never have thought to call themselves black before contact with Europeans.
jovialduke 1 year ago

Color doesn't mean anything to heart, humans everything are the same basically no matter conditions to live, educate, influence, earn, though by time and self, they start to select who and what they follow because many humans are scared not to follow, especially while it decides material and position etc in reality they could gain by following no matter right or wrong, why this world is like that, because parents start teaching how to follow since baby, don't give a sh* to those, it is rubbish.
vcdevideo 2 years ago 3
Seeing this reminds me of how I was when I was a kid. I wasn't aware of my skin color until someone older than me pointed it out. I knew I was different among other kids (I'm African-American). I used to be fine with myself. But the environment I grew up in basically showed that being dark skinned is unwanted or looked at as ugly. Its been rammed into my head so much now it has effected me personally. I have a bit of self hate due to it and I'm trying my hardest to remove it.

The Slave Trade was not about race, but financial and political gain.

its saddening though, that she learned to have an irrational prejudice towards the darker girl in her class.

@ caramelprincessxx40:
i think the child just assumed it was human BEANS instead of human beings... no fit teacher in a school setting would tell their students we came from beans... its just the childish things kids say.
If anything, schools tend to shy away from "controversial" things because parents are hypersensitive these days.

Good comment Yuilen.
Anyway it was just more powerful nation conquering weaker nation and enslaving them.
astmapiippu 2 years ago
By the way, before the Europeans enslaved black people, for thousands of years empires in the middle East, Arabs and other such peoples all enslaved each other, not just blacks. Racism doesn't just count as toward blacks. Nor have blacks had the worst types of slavery. Study Ancient History and its parts about Slavery, slavery doesnt exist because of racism, it exists because one guy's army conquered the other guy's army and took everyone prisoner. Enough Said.
Yuilen 2 years ago 3
@Yuilen You could just read the Bible and get that- but I must say that in America, it is the first time one has been enslaved in a country where the very ruling authority proclaims that all men are created equal with certain inalienable rights.
Imforeverone88 1 year ago
@Imforeverone88 It is not the first time. That proclamation was in the revolution days, and it took another 100 years for slavery to be abolished. Before they recognized that black people are humans too.
And then for women to have equal rights, it took nearly 200 years.
There's no such thing as "inalienable". Otherwise, we wouldn't be having this immigration problem.

Philosophy isn't taught. Philosophy is a malady that after impinging upon, it inflicts, infects the inquisitive mind. One does not seek after it therefore it cannot be brought(taught) to you. It comes to you.

Basically, because most have their own religion, and their religions have their philosophies. Plus, I don't think most communities would allow it, because first it's a fight in school over philosophy, then theres protests over it.

You need to stop.
sweetbutdaring 2 years ago
I think this is a load of nonsense. That would mess up the children's minds. No-one knows why we are here and you want to get kids thinking about this? There a child genius who took an interest in philosophy and it totally messed him up, children are meant to be innocent and not have to worry about anything, the moment you get them theorizing, that's the end, it'll give them depression and depression in adulthood is bad enough.
sweetbutdaring 2 years ago
Why does thinking about the world and the meaning of our existence get you depressed? You are clearly just emotionally unstable and you have your own personal issues to deal with, that you are trying to project onto this little girl.
Not everyone has mental issues, getting depressed over the thought of existence, why we are here, what is right, what is wrong, and how we should treat others.
