  • Awesome glitchs !

  • LOL doom graphics

  • You can download this for free from SourceForge nowadays and some sequels.

  • This game is so underrated! it deserves more press..a sequel woundnt be all that bad either!

  • this is halo before halo

  • AW SHI

    I REMEMBER THIS GAME

  • this game is stupid halo is way better

    /endtrolling

  • I am going to get so trolled because of this but:

Is this the game that they use to make the past in RvB?

  • @flatiou Uh, probably? I haven't watched RvB in forever, but as Marathon was pretty much the direct precursor to Halo, I'd say it's likely.

  • Reminds me of Doom

  • @YTPrule doom >marathon

  • @george2p Depends whether you can read or not.

  • noob uses a crosshair

  • could someone please send me the video walkthrough for the ENTIRE game?

  • next time, u should put it on the hardest mode

  • @SDFFDGSSDFGSDGFDGSFD *read comments*

Let me tell you, at the time this was filmed, my only intention was the show the basic level format. If I wanted to I could have turned on the fly LUA and deleted all the enemies in Forge, but I didn't. And at the time this was filmed, if I played on Total Carnage I wouldn't be able to show the basic level format from start to finish.

  • Seriously, I still like Marathon even though ive been introduced to modern games like l4d. I wanna play this, it was fun.

  • Btw is the tomm magazine (the burst machine gun weapon) in the actual marathon games?

  • @xXAlloy12Xx Only in Infinity.

  • aww it's a baby halo

  • @sithmastur actually its more like Halo's grandad.

  • @SalvageSho I know that. I do like Halo, mind you...

  • This game does not look bad. I have played Halo years ago and thought it was good. The Pippin competed with the Play Station back in the day. You can get this game off Xbox Live Arcade.

  • marathon was a failed atempmt at halo but it was good

  • @soniccrazygamer screw you. I hate to say it, but if Marathon were made with modern video game tech, it would kick Halo's ass.

  • @KampferXeon Storywise, it kick's Halo's ass anyway. But I doubt today's console gamers would have much interest in terminal-based "incremental" narrative. Too much reading. But you lose so much of Marathon's subtlety when you're limited to voice acting.

  • what game station was this on??? i wanna play it!!!

  • @gtbtone Explain "Game Station" do you mean platform? you can buy it on the Xbox Live Arcade. Or, you can get it for free on Windows, Mac OS X, or Linux.

  • @Thek213 like example:

    xbox

    ps3

    wii

  • @Thek213 its free ???? =0 or is it hack cuz i hate hacking D=

  • @gtbtone

  • @gtbtone this game was originally designed for the apple console pip pin. this game is the predecessor to Halo

  • computer

  • I think that after bungie is done with halo, they should remake marathon... or continue it somehow

  • Use of crosshair? Difficulty not on total carnage? ...posted up?

  • @akaisagani Lol spazeroidity is a bitch. This was more of a level design showcase than anything. If I could at the time to I would have loaded this up in Forge or Obed just to remove the enemies.

  • looks like DOOM

  • @speedyb39 But better

  • Marathon is the continuation of Halo

  • Wow #OMG at how much Bungie's games have improved in 16 years

(since this came out in 1994)

  • hey can anyone tell me where can i get a working forge to make marathon levels for pc?

  • Did you seriously play this on normal? I beat about 90% of the levels on Total Carnage. I didn't find it that difficult on that setting.

  • @aquateenhngrfrce I was only showcasing the designs of the levels. I'm a lot better now when it comes to Total Carnage.

  • @Thek213 oh, okay. that's understandable. Maybe I'll showcase this on co-op. Great scenario btw.

  • this is when Bungie was in top of they're game, now they just make garbage.

  • the self-titled mac 'doom killer'

  • Take that crosshair off, real men don't use one! ;)

  • I like it how once there were no crosshairs, then it was only crosshairs (from quake 2 onwards) and then they started to focus more on iron sights and scopes (from call of duty onwards).

  • @nooblet911 That's true to the point that there were a few FPS games out during 2008-2009 that were labeled "obsolete" because of the lack of iron sights.

  • yeah, but no one cared about sights a few years ago, ha ha

  • @Thek213 Counter strike?

  • @SH0R0N0 What about it?

  • god... were you playing in kindnergarten or something? o.o

  • @Futuramapwnsall It was either easy or normal. Never kindergarten. I can easily do this level in Total Carnage at the moment, it's just CamStudio problems from here on out. Plus, I just formatted my hard drive so I can't be bothered to download everything again.

  • reminds me of chex man inside cereal box!

  • Doom was eh. Unreal was quite the game though for its time

  • Agreed, Unreal did more for mainstream FPS than Doom did, although I will admit that Doom did introduce complex 3d gibbing. They just couldn't pull it off in a recognizable way.

  • what! not TC? :C

  • hey man need help with downloading marathon.its cause i try to download infinity or any other one but it will only keep downloading. i saw the videos you told me but it wont work. Please help i really want marathon since im a huge bungie fan

  • Well, what parts are you having trouble with?

  • @Thek213 WELL i have alphel one im just having trouble with getting the sceanrios

  • All you do is download the scenario folder, cut Aleph One from its own folder, and place it in the scenario folder.

  • FUCK FANBOYZ

  • can some one tell if this games had anything to do with halo??

because some idiot keep saying this was the original halo games before halo ce

  • There is absolutely no plot connection, and there are several discrepancies that place Marathon in an entirely different universe and storyline than Halo. There are, however, several references to the Marathon series in Halo. For example, "MJOLNIR" powered armor, the SPNKR rocket launcher, and numerous occurrences of the Marathon logo in Halo.

  • Are you stupid??? There is a complete plot connection. A lone, cyborg, super soldier battling an alien race bent on the destruction of earth and its people... have you even played the marathon campaign? it's a complete plot connection.

  • @crow370ownz Thats basically the plot of every game....

  • oh, and by the way, you're a pussy playing it on kindergarten.

  • @crow370ownz It wasn't played on kindergarten.

And what you said was a generic similarity shared by many games. You could even be comparing Marathon to Crysis and the description would work save for the fact that Nomad wasn't alone. And besides, the Marathon cyborg wasn't even lone for 60% of M2 and Infinity combined.

Even Bungie has said that the two storylines aren't connected. If anything, they'd betray themselves to retcon the series.

  • That's not true at all. o.O and if there was in fact no connection, then why would halo 3 have an achievement, "marathon man?" where you access all of the TERMINALS just like marathon... But hey, on an unrelated note, have you found the easter eggs in marathon. some of them are awesome. gotta' love Bungie.

  • @crow370ownz There's a difference between "references" and "plot connections." Halo has "references" from Marathon, not "plot connections." A plot connection means that the two stories are set in the same universe, which is not true, according to Bungie. By your logic Halo also has a link to Bungie's game Myth, because Halo 1 and 3 use a song from Myth. But it doesn't. It's just a throwback to Bungie's early fans.

Also, please elaborate. What is "not true at all?"

  • @Thek213 That's true! Marathon takes place over two-hundred years after Halo, and yet the aliens in Marathon are supposedly the first encountered by humankind!

  • the only thing is has to do with halo is the fact that this was Bungie's first ever successful game series. Also there's a few easter eggs in halo that relate to this game like the achievment "Marathon Man"

Personally, i think this looks like a failed alien version of Doom...

Buuut, i'm happy it didn't fail cause otherwise we wouldn't have Halo!

  • ...Except Doom was actually quite behind its time and was only successful because iD is very good at advertising. Doom's particle effects and lack of transparent sprites were rather... disappointing? Probably not the best word to use, but a fitting one no less.

  • It was? What was superior to it back in 1993? Sure, it was quickly surpassed, but it was the best upon it's release. Even today it's still quite good. Rather simple, but effective.

  • @Dragoneither DUDE, DOOM IS OKAY, BUT IT'S NOTHING COMPARED TO THIS! When you kill a monster in Doom, they freaking turn into a pile of raw beef.

  • I play Marathon online every day, and the Ryoko guy who made this really hates me

  • He doesn't hate anyone. Except maybe...

...well, we won't go off on that tangent. Let's just say he's cynical to the max.

  • @KampferXeon Deal with RyokoTK he just thinks he the center of the universe

  • hey is this game for windows too if so where can i get it?

  • Just search the terms "marathon bungie get" on Google (no quotes) and you should get somewhere. Download Aleph One, and then download a scenario folder. Then drag the Aleph One application into your scenario folder, then you can play. There's not much I can squeeze into this comment box, but if you want an in-depth tutorial, try dodopod's 3-part YouTube tutorial. It helped me download and install the new high-res textures.

  • There is a port for Windows. I got into it a while back but became stuck in the game haha so I shelved it.

That flechette weapon would pwn hardcore to actually own.

  • BOOO that

  • Yeah, until gaming almost totally shifted to Windows.

Mac gaming pretty much died in the early 2000s, oh well.

  • admit no existance other than Total Carnage!

  • Expect a TC video within a month.

  • is this PC or xbox?

  • This is the PC version, although there is not much difference besides the Assault Rifle's rate of fire. The ROF on the 360 is just plain huge. That, and the improvement of the HUD, although you can change that on the PC version.

  • hey man do u know if there r any marathon games coming out for the PS3?

  • @Hybridswimmer Sadly, I don't think so.

  • Read the description. It's an Aleph One scenario for Marathon Infinity.

  • skillz. youre really good

  • Seriously, no I'm not. This is on like, normal or easy. As soon as I work around my sound card problems I'll upload a Waterloo Waterpark total carnage video, with some style.

  • The pfhor levels in marathon 2 on TC are fun (; you should upload that.. that really is total carnage

  • Can't help thinking pfhor look like somali women

  • are they remaking marathon?

  • A remake of the second game with better graphics has already made its way to XBLA.

A team of Unreal modders has made a full conversion for Unreal Tournament (1999) called Marathon: Resurrection modeled off of Marathon 1.

A lesser known (but just as awesome) Halo Custom Edition player has put weapons and character models in Halo. Check him out on YouTube. (0mgt3hm00kz)

  • Nah bungie made this game and as you can tell bungie moved into the halo series :S

  • jw wat are all the things that halo has in common with marathon, i havent played marathon so all ive been told is that you get unfrozen by your A.I. and your told that you crashed into a planet, and the only link to halo that i no is that the legendary ending is crashing into a planet

  • There are references to Marathon in Halo (the Marathon logo seen in all three games is a common one), but there are no clues connecting the two storylines. Bungie has stated they take place in different universes. Chronologically, the events in Halo take place first. Had they been in the same storyline and universe, Master Chief still would not be the Security Guard, because MC was in stasis at the same time the Security Guard boarded the Marathon.

  • i need a video showing me how to install the marathon apps...

  • Why do people always bring up Halo. They're completely seperate games, and Marathon wins.

    /discussion.

  • How?

  • Marathon isn't just shoot-die-spawn, you will need to use at least some of your brain.

  • I used to play this for HOURS!!!! i love it. my favourite is that level on EVIL where you start in those spiders ship i got real far.

Also how do you beat the level with the raising water and the drones that come from the sky?

  • Man, what I haven't tried is Marathon EVIL.

  • your missing out on heaps of levels much more than the other ones. some just mindless killing and some levels where you get stuck in a garbage disposal

  • Dude the first level of EVIL scared the SHIT out of me.

  • same here. word of advice, dont play that game at 3 am in a dark basement while there are thunderstorms going on outside.

that goes double if you have a cat or any other furry creature that will sneak up on you and rub against your legs. scary shit man

  • Besides both being bungie games and having the marathon symbol all over halo, they are completely different

  • have you even played marathon and know the story?

  • I have played all of them.

I understand the stories of Marathon 1 and 2, but can't put a finger on Infinity. I do realize the importance of time travel and alternate timelines (Aie Mac Sicur comes to mind, as well as Carroll Street Station). What I don't understand is the importance of those dream levels (Electric Sheep). Mind enlightening me?

  • Maybe they bring it up because there are infinite references to marathon in halo. Or maybe because some people think marathon is a sequel to halo which is not totally out of the realm of possibility. Or maybe because the story lines have tons of similarities. And they are both great games. Theres a reason halo is one of the best selling games of all time

  • Yeah but Marathon does have a better storyline.

And I think that if any two Bungie games are connected, it's Marathon and Pathways Into Darkness.

They have more similarities than Halo and Marathon.

  • Agreed on PiD. Anyone note how the beginning part of Marathon 1 was really, really similar to the ending area of PiD?

  • Yeah I always wondered about that.

  • yeah i heard that the original marathon didnt have that, but that the added that to aleph one as a reference to PiD kinda like the marathon references in halo.

  • That's what I was thinking. I'm guessing the scriptwriters for M1A1 just threw it in there, you know, please Bungie's older fans.

  • i can't enjoy this game unless i play it on the highest difficulty, there's just no challenge, maybe that's just me.

  • same. i played for so long no ones bullets worked and i couldnt di!

  • How did you get the sights cross?

  • On Aleph One, go to preferences and mess around. You should find it somewhere. Forgot where though.

  • I meant, the story arch, it just seems to me that Cortona, and Durandal, Toth in in Marathon - the AI, transporting cyborgs to fight aliens... is one the same thing...

  • Yeah, well, we must recognize that Halo is one big, big, BIG allusion to Marathon. Even the Pfhor symbol (or was it the S'pht?) is displayed in Halo.

  • the marathon logo itself.

  • Whoops lol, you're right.

  • hehe.

  • so... is Marathon and Halo one and the same I wonder?

  • Far from it.

  • same universe, different areas. you could say the Master Cheif and the unnamed protagonist(s) of the Marathon series are cut from the same cybog cloth.

the cyborg player character it was one of the great secrets of Marathon that was never directly revealed through the three games. it was alluded to verry scantly in 1, then there were increasing hints in the form of creepy, disjointed short stories that may have been the pfhor AI pulling your old memories.

Marathon had a unique mystery to it.

  • Hey, thought his name was Vic. Or was that non-canon?

  • where can i get this game plz tell me :) i played when i was like 6

  • Search "Aleph One" on Google...

  • what next i got this thing called m1a1 wat do i do with that?

  • First you download Aleph One for whatever OS you have (Mac, XP, Linux) and you unzip it. Then you take the M1A1 folder and put it into your Aleph One folder.

  • This gives you Marathon 1, if you want to get Marathon 2 and 8 download more Aleph One folders, get the map pack (should also be on the Aleph One website) and put them in the new aleph one folders.

  • LOOK HES GOT CHIEFS ARMOR ON HIS HANDS

  • he is the chief, this game is set after halo 3, at the end of halo 3 u see them falling into the marathon planet

  • Marathon is not a planet! It's a moon shaped like an asteroid, (Mars's moon to be exact) hollowed into a spaceship. I'm tired of explaining this.

  • i could be wrong but this guy is probably masterchief. If you beat campaign on legendary in halo 3 masterchief crashes into a planet which i am pretty sure is marathon. Then he must fight his way out and is now the guy in the game above this comment. Look at the first gun doesnt it look like a plasma rifle? IF ANYONE HAS ANYTHING TO SAY EMAIL ME.

  • 1 - The first gun fires bullets... NOT plasma...

2 - Marathon is not a planet, it's a spaceship made out of a moon (and no, it's NOT round)

3 - He's a security officer. He doesn't have to fight his way out of anything, just has to keep order on the ship.

  • the chief is floating to onyx where the rest of the spartans are

  • ummm ever watch the ending of halo 3 but on legendary its a different ending chief crashes into some planet which its called marathon

  • That's what they ALL say...

..and they probably ARE in different universes.

  • this was after halo 3 not the game but the storyline.

  • i remember playing this great classic game on a macintosh performa. remember those? :-)

  • Hell yeah, but I sold mine a few years ago when I decided that PC's were better.

Man I miss Forge and Anvil...

  • Easy or Normal, never Kindergarten. Sometimes Major Damage.

There is a Total Carnage video for this map pack on my channel; I die.

  • do you play online in this

  • You can in the Aleph One version, not the original.

This map pack cannot be used online either.

  • 5000 views

  • isnt this like... tho ORIGINAL halo type game??

  • I think Doom was the first. No make that Maze War from the 70s. But this is an ancestor to Halo, yes.

  • It's BUNGIE'S ancestor to Halo, Get it right :P

  • For some reason my last comment didn't come through when I clicked send. I was attempting to say that Maze War was the first FPS, aka "halo type game".

  • halo is a FPS first person shooter

  • Yeah, and so are Doom, Marathon, and Maze War.

  • Official word from Bungie is no, not related story line. What Marathon is is Bungies first FPS

  • Nope... Pathways into Darkness was.

  • That's right, PiD was Bungie's first FPS

  • 4000 views ftw

  • this is where they got da elite idea XD

  • They also got the dual weild, rocket launcher, and a couple others from.

  • What map is this anyway? I like marathon for the action. And the savegame hacker i use to give myself tons of health and weapons.

  • It's the "Kill Them All" map pack. You might be able to find it on Simplici7y.

  • This is so easy. Even on TC.

  • Looked like Kindergarten because it only rook a couple of bullets to kill some of those guys, still cool tho.

  • Like I said, its either Easy or Normal. Never Kindergarten.

  • Kindergarten! Haha killing Phfor never gets old!

  • Actually it was Normal, of perhaps Easy. Never Kindergarten. It's just that I don't want to die whilst filming (you can see what happens in Total Carnage in my newer video "How To Fail at Total Carnage")

  • "OOOOOOOOO"

    --Burning Pfhor

  • I'm not too sure about the Halo/Marathon comparisons. For the record the other nine battleroids were left planet-side to defend Tau-Ceti, and were all killed when the planet was glassed.

Do I think the MKIV cyborg and MC are the same? Maybe. They made a reference in the game, that the character was Beowulf, Achilles, Hannibal, etc. He appears throughout the entire span of military history, same man, different name.

Might explain the recurring number 7 in the marathon series. A recurringchar

  • You know what? You're absolutely right. Checked it on Marathon's Story.

I'm not too sure about Beowulf, Achilles, and Hannibal. Could you PM me the source of that, (perhaps give a link to a website or screenshot, etc?)
