  • This was my favorite ride at astroworld. Thank you for posting this.

  • i think we all need to come together and promote the opening of another park here on Houston

  • There goes my childhood memories... who decided to take this away and make this place an industrial dump?

  • this is nothing compared to the real coney island cyclone

  • @CoasterFreak118 yep! Nothing beats the original Cyclone in Brooklyn NY. Since 1927 and it's still going strong! Not to say that the Texas Cyclone wasn't great! And they should never have demolished Astroworld. Before the park closed, people should have worked to get Astroworld, landmark protection so it could have continued to stand.

  • A classic wooden coaster

  • astro world kicked ass

  • Well, guess now i'mgonna build a time machine and go back to 1978, when the cyclone was still in it's original condition with original trains and plus the greezed lightnin' was there. i really hope joyland sells like to a park in the northeast or sells it to wieland schwarzkopf

  • I'm still so pissed they tore down Astroworld!

  • @pepperannehanson ME TOO

  • @pepperannehanson

Me Tooooo Thas F------en Sucks Bigones.... i wish Houston would bring back another theme park for our Kids to enjoy

  • Best ride in the park..so much of my childhood spent at that park. :( RIP Astroworld

  • i heard it wuz the oldest wodden rode in the u.s

  • @reneepunkful No it wasn't

  • @reneepunkful the oldest is leap the dips built in 1902. others are the Jack Rabbit (1920) another jack rabbit (also 1920) cyclone in NY (1927) dragon in NY (1927) and a few others dating from the 1920's-40's

  • my mom and dad rode thiss when they we daiting.

My mom threw up after.<3 haha

    i wanna go on it.

    Question.

    Is it scaryy?

  • @ForeverChick12 Can't go on it im sorry.

you can find the chain lift on other coasters, the rest is just burnt.

  • @ForeverChick12 it no longer exists. the park was torn down in 2005

  • i rode that ride ..it was fun..but the scariest part was that it was wooden!!

  • Once upon a time, this was the greatest roller coaster on the planet. I thought it would never die. They may have demolished Astroworld, but I'll remember the Texas Cyclone forever.

  • I really wanna ride this too bad they took it out

  • I used to live really close to astroworld. only 20 minutes. Plus it was really cheap- 0$ a person. i wanna go again :(

  • i hate how people say this ride sucks but it doesnt. the turns are actually pretty sharp last time i rode it. and plus this coaster is a instant classic

  • so many memories...

  • i rode on this when i was 8 my dad made me sneak into this ride! i had to stand on my toes lol and my couzins that where my age or like 5 years above me got chicken and even my mom chickened out!!!!!! lol so it was only me, my brother, and my dad hehe :)

  • they made this copying the coney island cyclone there identical but the coney island one is scarier

  • @xxantxx1997 They didn't really ever truly copy the original; all the copy-cats lack the fan-turns and air-time speed bumps that only a true Cyclone fanatic would notice; they dulled it down with banked turns and lack of any of the small speed bumps; The one in Coney Island is still the best of the best in my oppion.

  • There will never be another.

  • thanks for the memories. had alot of fun times on the cyclone. rode it twice the last weekend it was open. went to the final frightfest. so glad I got to be a part of the final days of astroworld.

  • this was da 1st real coaster i rode on i was scared to death

  • Best roller coaster ever. Why? The wooden track and tightly formed track. This ride would throw you from one side of the car to the next and keep roughhousing you through every turn, climb and drop. Unlike steel roller coasters, which have a silky smooth ride, you really felt everything on this ride. It was nightmarishly awesome. Thank you so much for posting this video!! It brings back many happy memories.

  • @sobelius i agree completely. it literally felt like you were gonna fly off the side of the thing. and everytime you came off a drop, you would shake so violently, you thought the whole thing was breaking apart

  • @sobelius its not always about the quality of the ride, its the fun you have on it. a log flume is one of my favorite rides of all time because me and my friends always have so much f%#$ing fun on it.

  • aww man i miss astroworld.

  • r.i.p astroworld

  • Never been but it looks like it was alot of fun to ride

  • @TECHNICSSL1200M Astroworld, unfortunately, was closed in 2005. The Texas Cyclone was truly a landmark in the park as well as the city. However, it was bumpy as hell. Of course all wooden rides are bumpy but this one tied very closely with the Texas Giant in Arlington as being the bumpiest. It was a lot of fun but the last time I rode it, it really killed my neck.

  • I'll never forget riding that thing. Like a bucking bronco. Best ever.

  • now everything in Houston my hometown is just filled with streets of crooks and boring office buildings, would it be a pain to clear some of those old apartment buildings for some quality fun. The marque is Houston's last stronghold

  • wow i miss it

i was the first ride to almost make me vomit lol

  • yeah this was the first ever coaster ive ridden on...... I didn't scream that time because I didn't know how to react to it so as much as I could I kept my mouth shut. If I did my dad's ears would be ringing( I was like 8 at the time)

  • its a shame that its gone

  • Please keep your hands in the car at all times. . .

OR YOU WILL GET THEM CHOPPED OFF!

    *sigh*

    I miss it

  • @jaxtheunbrite I remember it saying keep your hands on the lock bar at all times. There was a time when there was no bar to hold on to in front of you like most coasters these days. They finally added them in the last few years it was open.

  • I'll never forget the night my dad lost his Astros cap on the first plunge of the ride, only to have it returned after the ride by a guys in the car behind us! Such fond memories...

  • Brings back memories that was my faviorite ride but stupid situ shut it down and did nothing with the lot

  • Yeah i get depressed every time I come home from the beach and seeing acres of dirt. Childhood memories will just stay memories now.

  • I used to love it when the train curved out of the loading area and caught the chain to go up that first lift. It clanked all the way to the top, then there was the man telling us to keep our arms inside at all, and you looked to your right and saw that parking lot with the cars that looked so small. The ride slammed your head around then it stopped so hard the lap bar pushed on your stomach.

    This ride was great.

  • i didn't find it fun. really just painful

  • I got a bruise from that ride... it was bumpy and rough.. I miss astroworld

  • This is kinda weird, they have the exact same ride in coney island, that one obviously came first. It's ok to use the same design (even though its mirrored) but why make it the same name and color??

  • @bubbleboy97 the coney island coaster is similar but 1/3 the size of the cyclone.

  • wow!!! that ride was bumpy. talk about memories

  • great ride

  • OMG!

  • Now that took me way back...all the way back, too.

  • i was little when i rode this the drop scared me but it was fun

  • classic ride, classic theme park! such a shame

  • I did not have the money to go as a child. The first time I had gone was on a class trip when I was in 5th grade. I had so much fun there.. This was my first ride when I arrived there. I was real excited getting on because it was my 1st roller coaster. AHH THE MEMORIES! Damn City didn't do shit with the lot. Btw, my niece was 4 when we moved here to H-town and she was afraid to overlook the freeway because of that Giant Spider on it..

  • This was my first coaster ride. back in the day Astro World Houston was the best, now Houston is just another city.

  • me too

  • because they wanted more parking space for reliant stadium the texans aint that great of a team anyway dallas cowboys are better.

  • lwts just say they both SUCK!!!! Escpecially tony ROMO (Homo)

  • thats kind of not appropriate to put on this video

  • This was my first EVER coaster ride and boy did this video bring back great childhood memories!

  • me too

  • This is a classic ride. Why exactly was this park closed anyways?

  • Im not sure but i think someone bought it

  • there was so many accidents that occured there.

  • thats not why it closed.

they sold it because they werent making enough money. not enough people were coming, so they thought it would be more profitable to sell it.

it ended up being a terrible decision, though. the people who decided it were fired the next day.

and even today, the whole lot is just DIRT. the people who bought it have done NOTHING with it. AFTER 4 YEARS! UGH!!

  • i know dude my very first coaster was there, my first puke in a theme park was there, the first time I got off roller coaster tycoon for fun was There!!!

  • but now its just a memory

  • The park was actually profitable. But Six Flags needed a quick cash infusion, so they sold off several properties that were on valuable land.

  • I remember going back there in 2005 and there was a lot of crazy people...... I some some dude kick a trash can over and security didn't notice

  • Angela, thanks for the COOL flashback. Still kinda sad

  • i rode that yo and like a month ago i saw it it is on some pear now it was on girls next door

  • That ride was like a living thing. When it was really hot, it was even better. Glad I got the chance to ride it.

  • why did they close the park? what a shame. This was the first coaster I ever rode. I have been to Busch Gardens In tampa Fl. If you get to go, ride shiekra, that is scary as hell.

  • i will miss

  • we will never forget

  • hell six flags is lost its best luster they closed this park thats disapointing

  • BEST. WOODIE. EVER.

  • There morons for Demolishing This coaster. Memories!

  • Man, the one William Cobb woodie I DIDN'T get to ride! Real shame it met such an untimely death.

  • RIP Texas Cyclone. Why did they close down Astroworld?

When I was a kid, my friends and I would all get summer jobs so we could buy season passes (which were CHEAP back then) and go there several times a week. The Cyclone was our favorite ride. Love the clankity-clankity-clank sound of wooden roller coasters. Makes it feel like the thing's going to fall apart at any second! Definitely adds to the rush.

  • Because the CEO of Six Flags is a fucking idiot that's why. It was all about money.

There were always issues over parking. Apparently the 109-acre piece of land that the park was sitting on wasn't big enough or some shit.

After they demolished the park they sold the land for $77 million dollars. What a fucking waste of money. That $77 million dollar investment is just a big unused empty lot!!

  • i alwyas smiled when it took your picture lol

god i will miss this ride

first roller coaster i ever rode

  • wow that video brings back so many memories! That was my favorite ride in the whole park! i still have some season passes and some brochures along with vary few pictures. i wish they would bring it all back. i loved the serial thriller and the viper too. the batman, greased lightning. wow.

  • Thanks for posting! I miss Astroworld! It was my first job, ever! This ride always looked so scary till you rode it and now looking back, it was too much fun!!

  • THE TEXAS CYCLONE 1976-2005 GOODBYE

  • this looks like it was a great ride. to bad it met the wreckingball

  • i never got to ride this ride :(

i only got to ride a little bit of

rollar coasters and then they tore astroworld down!! i miss it

  • i did and it was awsome

  • luckyy.

    haha

  • i know who took it and rename it

GEORIGA TOOK IT. TYPE IT IN ITS CALLED THE GEORGIA CYCLONE! IM WAS MAD!

  • no one took it. The wrecking ball got it. You can see clips right here on youtube with it being demolished.

  • this is my favorite wooden roller coaster to bad you cant ride it any more :(

  • wow that my first roller coaster ride

  • i remember when this ride was a new attraction at astroworld, long long time ago. thanks for the clip.

  • Miss ya, Astroworld! At least we still have Six Flags Over Texas. It was so sad what disrepair Astroworld was in during its final years... The park was covered in graffiti, gangs were all over the place, and like half the rides didn't work. I think I only remember riding Taz (the one w/ 4 loops) a handful of times and I never got to ride Adventure Rivers because it was always closed... remember???!

  • Close, but the Texas Cyclone was a bit bigger and faster..you can tell this if you watch videos on here from both coasters. Its faster around the top turns and faster over all hills.

  • OMG this video just brought back TONS of memories! This was my very first roller coaster ride. I was so upset when they closed Six Flags.... :(

  • it is bigger

  • Yeah, it's bigger and 5 MPH faster. It reaches 65 MPH, as opposed to Coney Island's 60 MPH.

  • That thing kicked my ass a few times as a kid.

  • ahh amazingg ride miss this coasterrr

    r.i.p astroworld

  • psyclone is a clone of the cyclone exept it was rough and painful

  • I miss this coaster so much... memories, nothing like the Cyclone.

  • i think they do its the great the escape i think

  • the great escape or you can go to 6 flags

  • the great escape is a six flags park....

  • KingintheKastle is right.TGE is a SF park but "Six Flags" is not part of the name

  • Oh man, that was my favorite ride. Nothing like riding the Cyclone with your girlfriend. I loved it.I know that they are building a new wooden roller coaster at the Kemah Board Walk, but nothing will ever touch the "Texas Cyclone"!.

  • ive been on that it is kick ass

  • what a ride!

    Grtz. from Holland :)

  • This is one of the most frighting roller coasters i've ever rode. I used to love riding this when I first got used to riding it. RIP Astroworld.

  • RIP! That coaster was one of the greatest and the source of some great childhood memories. Thanks for the video!

  • Psyclone is gonging to be removed from SFMM this month!!

  • Texas Cyclone was NOTHING like the Psyclone at MM. Layouts are not similar at all. Psyclone is not a clone of the original Coney Island Cyclone.

  • I miss the Cyclone...Why did they have to tear it down!!! I'll never forget it.

  • This is almost the same layout as Viper at SFGAm. Great video.

  • This Phyclone at SFMM Viper at SFGAm and a few others are all nearly the same because they tryed to ematate the Cyclone at Coney Island newyourk

  • Great video!
