  • First World Problem: People walking by a tree filled with one dollar bills and not noticing or caring.

  • What a great idea, and it was in my favorite city - Chicago!! Thanks for making my night.

  • this was awesome

    thanks for uploading

  • the girl in da stripes like took $5

  • Thanks !

  • LOVE!!!

  • when people walking mostly their eyes focus looking at front or floor, so when there's money on the floor they quickly grab it...

  • I wish I had walked down that street with that tree just to see what I had felt after noticing it, my reaction and then my result. would I have taken a dollar? Not sure what I would have done. I do know that and now I will never know the true reaction after watching this because now I would look for the video camera. Lol. Anyway, cool video. It cost you at least $100 to make, someone should reimburse you. I enjoyed the momentary feeling of intellectual stigma from it. Thank you.

  • yes, sad that most people don't notice their surroundings these days. They walk around w blinkers on. Hence y littering is accepted in many cities(?) - people don't 'see' the rubbish. graffiti is accepted. Illegal parking. Lights switched on during the day. Everything wrappd in plastic. People in some kind of need ignored.. the list goes on... quite a telling experiment i think..

    Was the camera visible?

And it would b interesting 2do this in a poorer neighbourhood & near a school.. any plans?

  • bitch in the striped shirt is greedy

  • the last guy sums life up nicely.

  • I guess people didn't want to take it because they didn't want to feel like they were stealing

  • CUT DOWN THE MONEY TREE!!!!

check out the new video on you tube

TYPE - The Ancient Order - MONEY TREE

    thanks for your support :)

  • This is lovely

  • hahhaha

  • I imagine they figured the money was fake money... Common sense would tell you who in their right mind would put money on a tree??? With the printing machines today you got to admit that it's not hard to print money that looks real... That is probably what many thought until they actually stopped to check it out :) I can only assume the ecconomy was in a much better state when this video was made otherwise that tree would have been cleaned in minutes!

  • Imagine what would happen if you tried this in a poor neighborhood? You know, you might actually help someone! I'm going to try this when I have money to give away.

  • I'm sure there are other comments to this effect, but I feel compelled to add my 2 cents - lol - I recognize this neighborhood, I live 1/2 mile away. It's very affluent , which is evident from the clothing and grooming of the folks in the video. Believe me, if you had done this little social experiment on the near west side, or sections of Rogers Park where 12 people live in a one-bedroom apartment, you would have gotten very different results!! Cute video, but definitely starry-eyed.

  • there are all kinds of unusual art installations so perhaps folks thought the tree was staged for artistic reasons and don't want to "touch the art". that is what i might have thought. i like that folks didn't grab it all in a frenzy. now if you had a sign on the tree that stated "free money", i think more folks would have taken it. but notes on the dollar bills can look like part of the piece.

  • Do it in a ghetto neighborhood.. and see what happens

  • i think people that are looking are noticing the tree.. (somehow it is different from a normal tree) i just think they don't believe it's real. i mean i've never seen a money tree.. aside from the reactions.. very inspiring.. you should do it on a tree where a lot of different ethnic people live.. not being racial just curious how different people would react in different settings (or in a park?)

  • I loved it when people brushed past the money or ducked underneath it without really noticing that its free money like at 3:25 to 3:30.

  • I really had to laugh at the guy on the bike that noticed the dollar note that fell on the ground, but didn't see the tree with even more dollar notes XD.

  • 2:51- 2:53 haahahaha

  • search for a local job careerstartshop.info needing employees now

  • This is very inspiring. I wanna try doing this.

  • @randomvideomaker321 Why? Because she was smart enough to see the tree? I'm more mad at those fools who passed the tree by. Half of winning in life is being able to see the opportunity and run with it. That woman was the only winner of the bunch.

  • @Murdog83 you're a douche. the 5 dollars she took is not an opportunity, its an extra candy bar in her life

  • @randomvideomaker321 Why? Because she had the brains to go for extras? She was just taking the money from all those fools who passed the tree by. To the victor go the spoils. Half of winning in life is being able to see the opportunity.

  • If our countrys love us, They have to put those trees all over the world.

  • I've always wanted to do this, thanks for the vid you have my support and subscription. keep it up. or a 3rd reason for people not getting the money would be that they're to absorbed in there lifes to notice the outside world.

    ~dan

  • Has to do with probability I think, that some people even though looking at it they don't see what's going simply because it's too improbable to be real. A few years ago I saw a LOT of people walking while exiting the trainstation while looking at a certain spot on the floor. When I got closer I saw it was a €100 bill. One girl even said that it was a €100 bill and then walked on.

I did pick it up eventualy even though I've been watching people look at it for over 5 minutes. It was real btw :D

  • but wait... if trees dont grow money, why do banks have branches??

    :D thumbs up

  • It's funny how the guy at 3:11 picks his dollar off the ground but doesn't even notice the tree! :D

  • This is very typcal .. looots of people just don't see all the good thats around'em :)

to them ... Watch """ the secret"" ....

    regards

    Roy Martin (Norway)

  • @randomvideomaker321 Money grubbing bitch! She must make all her stereotypes proud

  • good job i smile

  • I'm sorry but this doesn't mean pretty much anything... people can have all sorts of thoughts like "this is for candy camera" that will affect their natural reactions. I would probably also ignore the tree because of that, and that doesn't mean I don't enjoy life, au contraire, I effing love it

  • @mrvlhs I believe you mean candid camera

  • @sotaskimmer Yep, thanks for the correction :)

  • We often don't take notice of what is in front of us as everything in life.

  • We often don't take notice of what is in front of us as everything in life.

  • giottis...

    43 people disagree with you.

  • @vivivonfrankenstein I have to agree. There was something vaguely condescending about this video (maybe it was the annoyingly, overly-earnest folk music playing in the background). I was surprised to learn this was filmed in Chicago, there was only one black person in the entire video. If she tried her little social experiment in a more multi-cultural, working-poor area I would bet she'd get exactly the reaction she was looking for.

  • I find it so interesting that people just didn't take notice. It makes me wonder how I would react.

  • is it that some of us don't feel worthy or able to accept gifts?

  • amazing

  • if i saw it, i take all money XD

  • God Bless You

I Wish I Could Meet You

  • i wish i was there i would take all of them lol

  • put the money in south central

  • I'd try to take some seeds!

  • this is a very inspirational video to me and somehow touch's the heart to me i think the music is VERY well chosen to help show the video.

  • @randomvideomaker321 yeah notice how it was a woman who took the most! XD

  • This video is great (: ..But if this tree was where i live, that tree would be gone in a blink of an eye.

  • god bless all who only took one!

  • Interesting project, human behaviour continues to baffle me as we drift farther apart from what's important to material gains.

The irony of it... is this film exactly, becoming so focused on yourself that you miss out on important things, like... they're not even there.

Compare this to a great view, I find it stunning each day while my co-workers don't even notice it in their sad little cycle of getting to work, going home... for money. Enjoy the little things all of you!

    Some guy from Europe.

  • @crism69 it's wall street so they would probably lose all the money in legal fees about hanging the money in the first place, then require the tree to be turned into bills and then they would likely lose those from overconfidence on the market. Then all that crap would turn into a new depression every 20 - 30 years. By that time a new tree would have grown.

  • Never work with all the hill billies here

  • great project! Nice to see that people leave dollars hanging for other people

  • Reminds me of an old Brother Dave Gardner comedy routine.

Old po'boy from Alabama comes to New York because his brother up there sez "there's so much money up here its falling off the trees".

Fella walks down the street and sees a $20 bill on the sidewalk. Sez "I'll pick you up tomorrow" :)

  • seems a sign of the present times and sad.. people walked right by without noticing the money, even when they had to duck walking under the tree. we have lost living in the present. I really thought bicycle girl would go back and take one.

  • Wow, this is almost a perfect example of My Harvest America, basically we give our members an extra $170.00 a month. Most people just walk right by.

When people open their eyes they will see it.

  • cool

  • Love this.

  • that was amazing, and inspiring, in a really weird, random, shocking, and kind of magical way...i suppose i'm left a bit awed really.

  • I think I have found my own money tree! Please look at my site for details!

  • weird how people could not ever see it... and some people only took like 1 -3 dollars. I would have been like YIPPEE! MONEY! and taken a bunch. >.> But im rude like that. and considering i wouldn't have know that this was the meaning behind it I would have destroyed it. :(

  • I love the ones that pointed it out to others passing by! Would love that kind of people as neighbors.

  • This shows how many people are caught in Caterpillar Mentality, not seeing their surroundings, ignoring what could be happening. If I saw that... I would add to it.

  • Thanks Amy...and company:-)

  • This is a beautiful thing, and it actually made my day. It's such a nice thing to do, and left a smile on my face for ages afterwards. :). x.

  • I loved this! I think some people didn't see it at all... and it shows how preoccupied we are and unobservant of our natural surroundings. :) And yes, some did see it but kept on going... not taking even a moment to check it out. The moral of the story is Slow Down and Be Observant. Enjoy the journey!

  • Did it ever accour to you that people saw the money but didn't know they were allowed to take it???

If I woulf have seen it - my first thought would be it a set for movie being filmed there - and I woudn't have touched it either...

  • @flicker0546 I have to agree with you, or some type of stupid candid camera move.

  • It doesn't surprise me at all that people don't see what's right i front of their noses.... isn't that what selective sifting is all about?

Most people are so unaware.. don't notice when they bump into someone or even step on someone's foot.. and you're asking them to see money floating above their head!!

  • interesting the money tree; unexpected things

  • Wow!

  • i'd def take a picture but i don't think i could take a dollar

  • 32 people came too late at the money tree...

  • Amy, thanks for spreading the lovely!

@Rizograma look again and SEE the tree. :)

  • What a beautiful idea! Thank you!

  • how nice ! :) if i walked by that tree i would cut it down, steal a car then drive the tree home lol :>>

  • - Ugly editing.

    - Messages on dollars weird and confusing.

    - Not interesting, people act as expected (if you are a "normal" person, that is).

    - Of course THEY SEE the tree, but they know a dollar or two won't change their lives, not even their DAY, so they just keep walking. It seems you thought you were impersonating a god or something, hahaha.

  • How can money on a tree not affect you? You have a story to tell your family/friends that you got free money off a tree. Every little thing affects you, if this doesn't then you're fucked.

  • @Rizograma Negative Nancy, lol. Editing is alright, this isn't a movie, it's a social experiment, video editing wasn't really on the top of their list, they just wanted to show us their project. The messages were random, a little thought provoking.. How were they confusing? "Look free money!" straight to the point. Who cares if a dollar or two wouldn't change their day ? It's the thought that counts, which was the whole point.. How many people do you know give away money? Amount doesn't matter..

  • @Rizograma The point of the money tree was not the monetary value of the dollars, but the message it represented.

  • If i walked there, I took all the money :P

  • this was awesome verY nice idea!!!

  • 2:34 that person was greedy lol

  • Could the music be a little more homely sounding, beetnick

  • what is the second song in this called? Lovely idea by the way. :] i love your videos! You rock the world.

  • @YourfriendHannnah mango tree angus and julia stone

  • It made me realize how oblivious we are (I am) to the world around us. Thank you!

  • I am glad one woman at least took a few notes - why shouldn't she - it doesn't have a sign saying 1 per person ;o)

What will 1 dollar buy !?

  • I bet if they did this experiment on Wall Street, the results would be quite different...I suspect the tree'd be bare of those bank notes in seconds.

  • @Victorromain

Correct, If some tryed to even put money on a tree they would get shot before the money even got on the tree and then take the money all for them selves.

    :P

  • @Victorromain Right even before you hang them in the tree XD

  • I dunno, I would've walked by. Taking money from a tree in the middle of a public street? That's kinda sketch...

  • For people looking for song credits:

Song 1: "Sweet Disposition" by Temper Trap

Song 2: "Mango Tree" by Angus & Julia Stone

Song 3: "Intro/Swimming Pool Part 1" by Badly Drawn Boy

    Enjoy :)

  • If that bitches parking meter ran out she could just use the money tree.

  • do the same in a ghetto

  • @emeritocotto lol, they run up chop the tree down and run.

  • @IMakeOrWatchVideos lol, that was my thought

  • pio einai to tragoudi pou paizei? ksereis kapios??

  • ahh this is so awesome

  • lol that one girl in the striped shirt took 4-6 dollar bills. XD

  • I gotta say I was expecting a greedy person to take all the notes.

  • Instant Karma.

  • Most people probably thought it was fake money.

  • You were in the wrong neighborhood for a true reaction IMHO

  • hehe people walk funny...

  • @OWOS34 I dont know what I would have done. I cant judge her in this economy!!!!

Its easy to sit back and say how greedy, but that could have been you. I actually was surprised she was the only one who took 5 bucks!

  • Interesting. If this was actually possible though, it would create inflation, basically counterfeiting.

  • There was a video like this in the NYC area where a man was giving $50 bills away in Manhattan. In New York, you would think people would run or flock to grab the fifty but many avoided him. No catches or pay backs, it was given away. Everyone was suspicious..

  • what is the song in the backround called? lol

  • where is this tree? need to pick some "GREENS"

  • Most people think this is too good to be real...so they would let this opportunity pass them by...just like life...we see but don't realize it too often and allow too many good opportunity pass us by all... Like the wind, it below on us all! But, you'll have to set the sail to take advantage of it.

  • Most people think this is too good to be real...so they would let this opportunity pass them by...just like life...we see but don't realize it too often and allow too many good opportunity pass us by all... Wind below on us all, but you'll have to set the sail to take advantage of it.

  • if you do this in venezuela, the first 3 people would take all the money in 1 minute !!!

  • anyone know what the closing audio is? With the "yea but there are good things all around" vocal??

  • Cool idea, nicely put together. Thanks for doing this, you made me miss home. That was the month I left :(

  • good people do good things

  • What is noteworthy is that the vast majority who did take, took but a single dollar.

This indicates that they consciously left dollars for others.

  • @kinsmed guilt is all it is. the fear of being caught taking something that they know they dont deserve to take. they dont think about the next person. you must be thinking of a utopian species. consider that no one considered pinning up one of their own dollars to the money tree. thats the reality.

  • My opinion would of been if i'd a seen the tree would've been, Where is the cops? This is a setup!! lol

  • Cool, I wonder if there's lotto tickets for sale nearby.

  • wut if a hobo saw it

  • smaller currency

wrong location ( say, if this was near starbucks , things would have been different)

people assumed the notes were fake ..

people assumed notes were not meant for them

  • If they were $20 bills people would have stopped.

  • what the......?

  • ... the goodness of a person's heart, so clearly shown here. Everyone was so polite to let others enjoy the kindness and smile giving of this cool street art project. *: )

My fav is the woman getting into her car while ducking under one of the branches.

  • What touches me the most about this project is the goodness of a person's heart. The one's who did notice, were polite so that other's could enjoy also. *: )

  • the black guy didn't taken any money becoz he knew if he had, somebody will call 911 about a robbery in progress... lol

  • I think some people that looked at it and walked away thought there is more to life than money

  • What would happen if a homeless saw it?

  • there is something so heart-warming about this video :D, im so glad i came across this. really, there is good all around us.

  • Great video! Interesting to see that some people seemed to be taking more than one dollar. BUT if I'd been walking down this street my first thought would be "where is the video recorder/camera?" Folks might have noticed the money even though they didn't appear to react, but just didn't want to be part of the experiement.

  • Honestly, I believe that a lot of people simply didn't _see_ the tree. I had a bearded dragon-- a two foot long lizard. I'd walk around the neighborhood with him on my outstretched arm (for sun and a view). Kids could spot him from amazing distances, and would at least look up and watch me go by. Some kids would charge up for a closer look. The parents? Sadly oblivious to me, my dragon, or whatever it was that got their kid's sudden attention.

    Remember -- LOOK! (reference: R. Fulghum :~)

  • what a great idea! And indeed your observations about what you learned were also interesting. Good for you for creating this...a lesson to be more observant because you just never know what will come your way.

  • whats the song in the begining!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @deeskater3

    Sweet Disposition - Temper Trap

  • great job, very interesting!

anyone that is interested in learning more about this phenomenon, google "tunnel vision" and Stanford's "lucky vs. unlucky people." I tried to enter the web addresses, but youtube apparently has a problem with that. I want to try this experiment in my town now =)

  • Stop looking at your fucking cell phones! The world, it's up here!

An interesting second concept would be to have a box filled with dollar bills and a letter saying "take a dollar or leave a dollar" See if people take one, take them all, leave money.

  • Stop looking at your fucking cell phones! The world, it's up here!

  • nobody looks up in this town??

  • where was the camera placed? was it visible? I love the guy on the bike. apparently picking up money off the ground is fine, but money in trees is off limits.

  • @justinhabit yeah I thought that was strange too. IF it is on the ground it is ok but hanging on the tree is off limits. It's like an episode I watched where someone placed a wallet on the ground and watch who would pick it up. The first person who walked by picked it up but then he put another wallet on the ground but inside a chalk box. Nobody touched it that time so I'm thinking "Crime Scene" maybe that could be what others assumed something like, it is gov't style stuff...don't touch.

  • Comment removed

  • I thought it was an interesting concept.

  • maybe because they dont want to be filmed doing it ... but oops oh well, too late, you already did and blurred no faces.

  • That was pretty fascinating to watch. I'm not sure what I would have done. I did think it showed that people are not always money grabbers.

  • Kind of amazing.

  • Such beautiful symbolisms: Abundance of wealth. Money talking (the messages on it), money (of paper, made from trees) and the environment, people preoccupied and hurried, not noticing opportunity, people ignoring opportunity, many mistrusting a 'free lunch', some not wanting to look stupid or mean, no individual desperate or bold enough to take the lot. Great fun, thanks. Bruce Thomson in New Zealand.

  • I thought the black guy was going to take all the money. Shame on me! How could I think that? Thanx for sharing, Amy!

  • anyone know the name of the second song?

  • @aybrooke mango tree by Angus and Julia Stone

  • si fuera yo ya lo estubiera podoandoo jajaja

  • En mexico no aguantaria ni un hr!!!!

si no soy yo quien lo poda algien mas en poko tiempo jajajjaa

  • I hate these videos of social experiments, the pretentious music drives me nuts. This video with no sound is much better.

  • "It's sort of like a lucky penny -- times 100!" don't you mean times 10,000! Great experiment :)

  • my favorite was the guy who rolls over the dollar bill with the bike. he looks at it all excited about picking up a dollar, and doesn't seem to notice the ones above his head. But, as for all those passerbys that don't take from the tree, I'd just say they probably thought it was a piece of art, not to be touched. Or, a prank waiting to happen.

  • It's very good video!!

  • That was a really cool thing you guys did! and seeing as you guys just wanted to see how people would react i had a few que
