  • Is it really a good idea to have 95% of L.A.'s sewage be treated by ONE treatment plant ? If that plant fails, then ... what ?

  • Taylor gang or swimming in sewer water

  • so, um....wtf is exactly in the sewer?

    ....dead babies?

  • @animekitten1 no charlie sheen's career ZING

  • one question how do they treat water that ppl piss from that have hiv and other danger stuff?

  • I want to live in the sewer!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • but still the water isnt clean so y are they sending it back out

  • words like 'virtually' allow for so much

  • That's awesome! Who says you can't give a shit about the environment? I'm not talking out of my ass when I say it works. There's nothing wrong with squeezing out new ideas and bringing energy costs out of the shitter.

  • I always knew fart gas was powerful!

  • shit gas in this case.

  • Well...falling into a sewer definitely goes to the top of "top ten ways I don't want to die" now.

    Sorry, car explosions.

  • Hey I saw on another site that West Virginia does it cheaper. They have dumps of untreated sewage on farmland. Wonder what they are growing? Site shows trucks blowing stuff over the ground in Cabell County. I wonder how many are really doing this.

  • Our farts power cities across the U.S.A.

  • wot a load of shit

  • LOL couldnt have send it better myself!!!

    =)

  • they should make a flex capacitor

  • LOL yup

  • where does the methane gas come from?

  • The anaerobic bacteria in stage 1 break apart the organic molecules in the sewage. Some of the molecular fragments are carbon dioxide [CO2] and methane [CH4], both gases. Most of the rest of the molecular fragments are not gases and stay in the sewage for treatment in stage 2.

Because they forcefully bubble oxygen through the sewage in stage 2, any gases produced would be diluted by the excess oxygen and harder to capture to use as fuel.

  • holy SHIT!!!

  • alot of people around here use septic tanks, which i think is generaly a good idea. it makes people deal w/ their own waste.

  • dont they have machines in sewers that shred stuff like debris that isnt shit or piss and they chew it up or something or is that storm drains

  • that's where shit goes down

  • where i live they chlorinate it and pump it out in the ocean creating a big dead zone where no life can exist.

  • where do you live

  • Hey, Hyperion is the name of the apartment I lived in in Korea...interesting.

Oh and that water treatment plant is HUGE 0_0

  • what a horrible way to die.

engulfing liquid feces and letting all the bacteria infest you while you're trapped in this smelly pit of diarhea.

  • what if u shit in a dishwasher

  • haha.Well why don't you try it?

  • I WILL DO IT! :) 100 bucks first :D

  • That was interesting.

  • was it ever not with ng?!

  • NO!...LOL!!!

  • Imagine the filth...of so many humans living sooooo close without such treatment plants. Ok, now image what happens after post oil crises...

  • i seen big bottles in the water!!!

  • what a joke

  • how?

  • did you not just see the video?

  • my bad i pressed enter a little to quickly. dont mind it

  • haha, I looked at this again, When i saw you wrote "how?" I must have thought you didn't understand how the plant worked or something. Now I see you were asking that other person how the video was a joke. haha

  • he's such a quiet narrator,, =|

  • Okay.

    Let me get this straight.

This Power Plant generates energy. But the total energy generated only fuction 85% of the Power Plant. So they add 15% MORE more to fuction the Power Plant. How does that help?

  • 85% of the entire operation. That 85% would have had to come from the power grid. So they are saving 85% of their energy costs to process the sewage.

  • Its a SEWAGE treatment facility..not a power plant.. They were saying that the place is 85% self sufficient.

  • Its not a power plant.

  • Awesome that they are capturing the methane and reusing it for the majority of their power...more than most places are doing.

  • i dont like his voice <.<

  • if you like travel chcek my video from Tatra Mountains in Poland.

  • verry nice from L A to bring back a cleaner water to sea

  • Does the other 5% get lost somewhere, or does it get dumped in some river?

  • *puke

  • wheres the other 5% go?

  • thts great 4 jenkem, they should open up a jenkem factory there!!!!! GREAT STUFF

  • so that why it smells so bad when you go by it. all that methane. ew

  • That treatment plant is located in my old home town El Segundo Ca.or el stinkunod as it is fondly called

  • I left my wallet in El Segundo.

  • Science! It works, bitches.

  • This narrator's voice is quite annoying. You can hear his lips smacking.

  • Lol listen to him saying the letter S all the time

  • oh yeah it he does keep saying S

  • Oh NASTY

  • really cool, this is what a developed country look like.

  • this is exactly what the world needs more of, re-usable energy. the plant still requires 15% energy, based on the video, from the grid but this can be changed with solar power. then that would really be amazing.

still, kudos to LA. i so wanna move to the states because of the way they handle environmental situations.

  • What country do u live in?

  • do some research before making a stupid comment like that.

  • hmmm i could smell it =)

  • wow. the water were drinking from bottles were from someones crap?!?!?!?!

  • The water you drink could have came from 1,000 generations' piss.

  • lmao mmmm... and I drink it all the time.

  • not only URINE but SEMEN, FECES, PUSS, TEARS, EXCRETIONS OF THE SKIN, BLOOD, VAGINAL FLUID, you name it.

  • mmmm vaginal fluid....

  • err obviously you dont know how it works.

    Auck.

  • lol! Tears??? U mean someone is crying there eyes out directly into the sink?

  • if tears evaporating and condensing somewhere means crying into a sink, then yes.

  • ill never drink bottled water again! lol but 2 think its really discusting:(

  • OH GOD I JUST HAD A BOTTLE OF WATER

  • Wow, I was drinking and eating while watching this video.. I lost my appetite..

  • no kidding =S

  • "Wow, I was drinking and eating while watching this video.. I lost my appetite.."

That's a good thing - a couple less turds for the treatment plant

  • lol yup

  • @Automedon2 HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA fuckin weaaak dude could not have said that better if i thought about it for a year

  • thats a video i did not need to see.... im still surfing in cali tho

  • yea great post! energy efficiency ftw :)

  • Cool... We do that stuff in Vancouver British Columbia, too.

  • oh yeah go LA. besides i've been there before the water is perfectly fine. and the methane capture is ingenious

  • i went to one of those places before and stunk like hell

  • Now thats a lot of poo.

  • ..and they pump it out where people swim......

    WTF!!??

why dont they bottle it and throw a Aquafina label on it.

  • HAHAHAHAHA

Na...I can believe this though, someone would have gotten sick already. If they really did do that, they would be in some serious shit!

  • Lets go surfing in water which was previously called sewage. Yeahh...How fun.

  • I had no idea. That was amazing. Thanks for posting.

  • IF they put the entire show on Youtube, why would people actually...you know...watch the National Geographic channel?

  • I don't have cable...I like the highlight pieces. I prefer to read magazines, newspapers, and watch the actual national geographic, A&E, etc. movies than watching mostly commercials on cable.

  • There are 6 factors to take into consideration with bacteria:

    Fat

    Acid

    Temperature

    Time

    Oxygen

    Moisture

  • Thats not actually correct.

  • DUMBASS!!

  • Thats cool that its using energy produced by itself.

  • I thought it was going to be something really unique- methane power? Eh, does that mean other waste treatment doesn't reuse the methane? I live near a lot of cow farms- they really need to capture the methane it STINKS!!!

  • If cow farms let the animals eat natural pasture and not grain the methane is reduced greatly.

  • swallowing sewage :O :O omfg, that's frigging disgusting

  • Fascinating!

  • I'm really hungry now....

  • wow alot of shit.

  • nice video!

  • That is a lot of shit...

  • Very interting

  • Thats pleasent
