This is NOT a shot this girl should be practicing. Do you see the pain she is in for several of those hits? Demonstrable pain! Shouldn't that make loud and clear that there is a problem here? This is an improvisation shot that someone might hit once in a great while if at all. Not something she should even consider getting into the habit of. And her wrist! She has an excellent forehand, I just hope no physical damage from this sort of drill ruins her chances.
@tommyenglish1 Yes, demonstrable. Do you see her shaking her wrist out at 2:29 and 2:42? Do you not see any problem with that? Do you think that is a good thing?
@greg8125 no i don't. its not hurt before, its not hurt since, she has never had a wrist injury that stopped her playing... or any other injury. and more importantly, no part of what she is doing is causing her to be injured. my wrists ache if I volley for a long period of time, maybe I should use two hands? or I could just shake it off and get on with it like Emira does.
@tommyenglish1 At 12 years old, I would hope she hasn't had a wrist injury yet. But at 2:29 she was hurting bad enough to actually stop hitting feeds, no? No matter how pretty this looks when pulled off, have you considered why this style of shot it is virtually non-existent in WTA top 100 play?
@greg8125 listen carefully - I have never BEFORE or AFTER seen here wrist hurt therefor it is not a problem. That is a very poor way of looking at things. People do not do the things we do because they take time and people in tennis (especially parents) want fast results and you can't get that with any one handed backhand of any kind.
@MegaMrlong Its about balance and timing and making the shot more comfortable to hit and not too many people can do it this well, especially age 11. Do you play?
I love to watch the one hander, but in women's pro tennis now, it's all about the two-hander power game. If she goes pro and brings back artistry to the game, awesome, but right now a one-hander is a disadvantage on the women's side.

it wasnt when little Henin was still around.

True, but wouldn't you say she was the exception?
Do you believe you are increasing this girls odds of making it big by having her go one handed? Or is that the only option based on her size perhaps?

Beautiful.
