@fantazielucy Ha, true! The leopard prince is like a super hero, and most super heroes are muscle bound, right? But of course Jas is not like this at all!
Of course it did had no success. After ''What's the Story ? Morning Glory'' of Oasis destroyed the charts , what this guy was thinking to come out with a song that sounds exactly like Oasis ?
After the success of Spaceman , he came back after almost two years with a crap song and stupid video. Nobody was interested in this. Not even the record company.
speaking as an american.....crazy/effeminate or whatever he was, maybe.....but Jas Mann was a physically beautiful specimen of a man....would totally let him do me......:)
Here i am 5 months later to comment again on this song, i originally thought it sounded like Oasis, but after listening to T Rex a lot lately, it sounds more like them. especially The Futiristic Dragon album
@colemann76 Try "truck on (tyke)" by T.Rex :) I would say this is the main influence for this song.Babylon Zoo was great, too bad Jas Mann was considered a fluke.Really underrated.
He was always in his own little world. Nothing he wrote would ever really connect with THE PEOPLE, the way Blur or Oasis would.
"Jassmann" was an normal bloke from WOLVERHAMPTON with an eccentric interest in "eastern things" and particularly strong numinous yearnings for the Kingdom above..
Indeed, I think that's why they didn't become too popular. A shame, because there are a few that recognise some of what Jas is talking about, like myself. Not all of it mind you, but enough to like it ^_^
This definitely lifts directly from Marc Bolans Truck On Tyke & Bowies Diamond Dogs. But as other people have commented Suede, Oasis & supergrass have allborrowed from Bolan & Bowie and non of that is a bad thing 'cos they have ll made it their own. All that said - I love Babylon Zoo & this is agreat track x
Love the self deprecating song and 90s cartoon style vid.
I'm surprised how good this is- I got the first album and liked most of it despite being weirded out by Mann's voice and irritating 'look at me' androgyny. There was a massive hate mongering for them but maybe the second album was better?!
Jas said in a French interview that this video was spawned from his love of Marvel comics. He felt this was the best way to become a super-hero himself.
I think it's wonderful m'self. Too bad this album go so fucked over by his distributor. It's got a dozen great songs.
ha,ha,fine comics videoclip but leopard prince whatsoever havent got jas look.Jas is very diminutive.

@dummytree You're right, it is "truck on (tyke)" that it reminds me of, that song wasn't on Futuristic Dragon though so my mistake, thank you though.

@colemann76 You're welcome. Thanks for mentioning "Futuristic Dragon", this is a very good, underrated (one again!) album.

@colemann76 The song titles on "King Kong Groover" are really bolanesque as well. "King Kong Groover" for starters :)

@dummytree....agreed Jas Mann and babylon zoo were ahead of their time...too bad the banal, mundane world wasn't ready for their progressive take

"got to #46 in the UK charts"
A positive way of looking at a flop then. Last time I checked we only chart the first 40, the rest are just theoretical placings. lol

@jimmy5willy If you type in "UK Chart Stats" it goes down to 100

@pitbulldeathsquad because their next album after "Boy with x-ray eyes" was really sucks! So, EMI told "we don't need you anymore" and fuck them out.
