  • I saw Mari with larry, barry & Kurt in Leeds circa 1981 - absolutely fantastic fun. Anyone know where she is now/

  • @tigergambit She's busy putting the finishing touches to her latest album Cover Stories, due for release shortly. Check out her website and her page on Pledgemusic for more info.

  • Helemaal leuk!!!!

Veel beter dan alle troep van tegenwoordig

  • 1 person likes Justin Bieber.

  • Oh, she's a great singer, great vibrato.

  • Love the scene with the kid selling cotton candy!

  • 4 months later and I still come here about very other day and listen to this. Fantastic.

  • Gorgeous and Fabulous!

  • Is this available on any '80s compilations? I bought the single but don't have a record player any more.

  • @FatknackerMacca Have you tried any mp3 sites?

  • What's an Ashworth snap then? Some kind of fancy biscuit, or referring to a photo? There's a hilarious exchange between Mari and one of her backing singers Hank on the b side of this, another catchy little number called Woe Woe Woe. Love this track.

  • @FatknackerMacca lol @ a fancy biscuit. Peter Ashworth, famous photographer & the man responsible for many iconic 80's record sleeves Tina Turner, Eurythmics, Visage, Mari etc...Agree about Woe Woe Woe, great b-side. Pity it's never appeared on cd yet.

  • @windyleecarr Thanks for that, I shall sleep better now! Can't decide which is my fave part - the intro, the bridge, the chorus, the boom boom boom, the repetition of she's got just what she always wanted, the instrumental, the reprise of the bop bop bop a bop bop bop, the false ending, just a great pop song. She recorded the chorus as a jingle for either Mike Read or Tony Blackburn on Radio 1, can't remember which.

  • @FatknackerMacca

Ashworth is a photographer, and a snap is a picture

  • "said he was giving me a taffata dress .......taffata is an expensive material !!! hope thats helped you out ..

  • Just a feelgood song!, happy days!!

  • Please someone tell me what the missing word in the first line is: "Said he was giving me a ???? address".

I've Googled the lyrics and looked at 20 sites and it's blank on all of them!

  • @LAnonHubbard i cant even figure it out after listening to that bit over and over! are you sure its a dress and not adress??

  • @logom0 A Taffeta Dress

  • @LAnonHubbard it's a taffeta dress!

  • @windyleecarr Hurray! You are a star - thanks :)

  • @windyleecarr And then he said he'd give me more or less...

  • As an 8 year old I LOVED this song. This should have been the alarm bells for my mother.... I am now a GAY man!

  • @davyth Don't tell me - you're the only gay in the village? LOL

  • Always've been a HUGE Mari Wilson (NOT the 'other' - with an 'e' Marie- Supremes (but, also a nice lady). There was one album - SHOWPEOPLE, but I've 3 different CD's - different tracks & all. NOT boots. SHOWPEOPLE had a bunch of great tracks, and she had a lot of talent behind her, both in the studio, and outside. Was fortunate enough to see her live show, with the Wilsations, et al. THAT was a show!

  • @uszoninyc its mary with a y in supremes

  • Fun song and good job recreating a believable 60s look.

  • Loved it then ! Love it now ! We need more stars like this now ! I shall track down that cd right now, as it is just what I always wanted....

  • I can't believe there is a video!!!! OMG I used to have this album, during my retro/opshop 80's days! Her version of Cry Me A River is my fave.

  • Can anyone tell me if sheet music exists for the instrumental arrangement of this song? I haven't been able to find it by Googling.

  • Terrific!

  • The beehive, what sunroofs in cars were inveted for! Sun, what sun?

  • she did have those diabeic lazy eyelids that are always sexy on a lady.

  • great song.

  • この曲がオープニングだったテレビ番組なんてったっけ?ラジオかな?

    なんかとっても楽しいことが始まりそうなオープニングだったような気がして、今聞くと泣き出しそうだ。

  • Lily Allan's maw.

  • @goldenstar9 *madden :L

  • 20 years later and she still is amazing

  • @cbrun67176 hi chap but i think maria wilson died sometime ago

  • @tc030564 That sucks for her

  • @tc030564 my mum's not dead.. :|

  • @tc030564 coz if she was she wouldnt be staring at me would she? o.O

  • @tc030564 Hum..,no: according to pratically every website I visited, she's still alive.I don't know where you took that information about her.

  • I love my mummy <3 So proud :)

  • I think her eyes are very suggestive.

Like she knows how to have a good time.

Like she knows something you don't.

    Very, very good.

  • Legendary!

  • can you ask her if she can come and turn the xmas lights on in basingstoke

  • the 80s at its best

  • cant beat the 80s music

  • I loved this. I still love it.

  • Absolute belter of an 80's track! - the 12" mix of this is bloody awesome...

  • I like 0:30 dance

  • haha lol

  • Ex EastEnders actress Michelle Collins was the one of Mari Wilson backing singers The Wilsation until she got sacked.

  • really---- what matter when this video+song was made -1960s?1980s?2000s? nice words.fun video.unusual.perfectly done!

  • o , and great drum sound toooo !!

  • Haven't heard that since the 80's when MTV used to play it! It should have been a big hit! Wish I could get it on my ipod.

  • you need to download an mp4 to mp3 converter

  • She's the queen of Neasden!

  • the dogs bollocks...great stuff!!!!

  • absolute diamond!

  • My mom had this on 7" single and I must have almost worn it out I played it that much. Just takes me back to being a kid again. Wonderful.

  • Thank you so much for this clip! I've waited years to see the official video! I love Mari :)

  • Dunno but I am going to Bilston near Wolverhampton tomorrow night to see Mari. A small intimate venue. I know it sounds crazy but i have waited 26 years to see Mari, and I can't wait. I wll post and let you know how she was...but she's gonna be great I know.

  • How was she?

  • Mari was wonderful. A small intimate gig and just what was needed on a windswept october evening. She sang better than ever and chatted to people after the show. She was really lovely....Mari is still a great artist. It's a shame that UK radio only plays a very narrow selection of music. Mari's new album is great, but will it get any exposure...it's criminal.

  • I know her lol she's my friend's mom. i didnt recognise her voice here only her face... she looks like SO different! but amazing singing she has...

  • Doesn't she look like Nancy Grace on a good day?

  • LMAO...you are so right!!!

  • 26 years I've waited to see this again. Thanks so much, windyleecar! I never forgot the tune, either.

  • luv

  • I love Mari, I wish I could get this song on CD. There isn't much available by her in the states.

  • I just see they released a brand new CD with this song on it.

  • I was 4 when this song was in the charts and I still remember this1 Not sure about the barnett though!!!

  • real lady and real singer dont makem like that any more

  • I love this song so much! Thanks for posting. So much wonderful stuff came out of the UK in the early 80's. Wished they'd come back.

  • I love this song :-) How good was life back in the early 80's?? I am so glad that I was young then and experienced the whole decade - a LOT beeter than life in 2008, innocent and nothing but fun! Thanks for sharing windyleecarr :-D

  • I hear ya. I was eight when this came out and I was already into music in a huge way. This tune sure stuck with me all these years. And you're sure right about the innocence. Music, tv, everything.

  • I think at 00.17 you can see a very very young Julia Fordham in pink.

  • I remember this video, and it is hard to think that 25 years ago seems like "yesterday."

  • I hadn't thought of this song for years. I just love surfing youtube. It's "Just what I always wanted".

  • Wow, the memories! This reminds me of the cold Melbourne winter of '82, it's great to (finally) see the video -she was a great performer, and such big hair!

  • More class and style than most of the no-talent pop dollies that glut the brit pop charts these days.

  • I should say so!

  • Another sublime Tony Mansfield-produced track from the 1980s.

  • Great! fab!

Does anyone else notice how much she looks like Divine? From the film hairspray (the original one)

  • This takes me back! Mari was always the star but lurking in the shadows of The wilsations was Michelle 'Cindy Beale' Collins....Mari for a time ther you were just what I always wanted!

  • I love this song brings back memories

  • I remember buying the 45 single for this back in the day. Classic pop.

  • Loved it! Love it! Still love it! Thanks for posting this great "feel good" song :) :) Am sure no-one at my school confessed to liking it but played it secretly in their bedrooms on their "Now That's What I Call Music 2" vinyl or something...As I did !!!! :) :)

  • Thanks for posting. This is just what I've always wanted. Well except for an "Ashworth snap" that is!

  • I love this video, the black and white slo-mo stuff is brilliant, thanks a million for posting this!

  • Amy Winehouse can't get her hair that high!

  • I fully agree! And (much as Amy Winehouse has done some good songs) she doesn't compare at all!

Just what we always wanted! I've not seen this video for YEARS..and I remember this song from when I was very young....

Which was quite a while ago. ;)

  • A great pop song

  • Thanks for uploading this with good sound quality. Loved this song, still love it now!
