Ahh... this was about the time I got into Yes. I recall somehow recording something off the radio from this tour and taking the tape into a local music store where the drum salesman (a pro friend of A. White) was a rabid Yes and KC fan, and made him tell me the names of all these amazing songs and what album they were from. I took notes. The day after my high school graduation I bought 90125, the start of my Yes collection. But that one show on the radio was the great Yes deflowering for me.
The best concert I've ever been to.....(500+) I know, I bet you've seen better, but I was in my very early teens in the mid 80's when I was older enough to go to shows...And seeing ALL my "idols" from my favourite band on stage TOGETHER was surreal.. ...
Wow, for a song so many of the guys professed to tolerate playing (if not hate outright) out of promotional obligation, this is actually a pretty tremendous performance, particularly from Steve "they re-recorded all of my parts" Howe...
Trevor almost single handedly ressurected this band that was heading for the "greatest hits"club and casino tours. Great band and great new material despite being a bit more rock/pop than they were previously accustomed to. Looked good in their bank accounts, though. This Union tour was fun for fans but miserable for them. Hope Trevor makes music with them again sometime.
I adore the Union Tour, where all eight members of the "YES" on stage. In the first and last time! Maybe them "closely", but for the fans, spectators - it's ecstasy.
Watching this clip, it's hard to believe Trevor once he said he hated playing this song, he and Chris look like they're having fun (look at the way they smile at each other!), but then again I know they're playing to the cameras somewhat.
This appeared on ABC network television across America way back when (1991) on a Friday night program called "In Concert". They aired two songs from Yes: this song (Shock to the System) and Lift Me Up. This is one of my favorite live performances of Yes ever captured on audio and video. The producers did a great job with the multiple camera shots as well. On that particular Friday, it was summer, I heard the promo for this show on FM radio. I was lucky enough to catch it on (regular) tv.
Outstanding! Both Trevor & Steve equally command the stage as titans of the guitar! Love Chris's & Trevor's bass & guitar duet! On This HD version, I agree you can see many more unique & far closer camera angles, especially of Jon & Trevor..with Fog! Nice effect there!
