I wonder which came first, pass the dutchie musical youth, pass the kutchie mighty diamonds or this... btw, if anyone has a link to the album version of Nancy Reagan by Blue Riddim please post on my wall!!!!!!
I used to go see these guys when they were "Rythym Funktion" and played in KC at McNasty's Boiler Room in the River Quay. 3 or 4 nights a week - I couldn't stay away!
God rest all of their souls.
Many thanks to Carter for posting this. Is there any more?.... there HAS to be more!
These guys got it all down pat - then they made it swing. WHEW! Could they ever swing. Long Live Blue Riddim Band.
I saw these guys perform at Colorado State University in '84. Their live album from the Reggae Sunsplash is one of greatest live reggae albums of all time. I just got a new turntable and listed to that album for the first time in about 15 years.
I grew up going to Blue Riddim shows. My daddy was friends with all the guys in the band and he used to take me with him to see them play. I would dance my butt off. When I got a little bit older I babysat Duck's daughter. What a great band....I went to Scott's funeral and he will be missed. My daddy recently passed away as well. He loved the band so much. I don't think he ever missed a show when they played in the KC area.
Ebay usually has an album or two for sale. I've got a pristine CD copy of Alive in Jamaica that was professionally transferred from a mint album that I'm happy to copy for you.
hey swimbum1, if you bought a cd copy of alive in jamaica, it's obvious a bootleg !! if you're interested in ifficial brb music check the kc reggae web site.
It was a CD professionally mastered from the Vinyl release. I wanted a CD and found a guy online who would find the record and burn a disc with professional equipment. He then sent me both the CD and the Album. I've had that album for years but it warped on me. I do have a bootleg of their last performance. I will however check out the site.
Hey guys, What happened to Scotty ? I'm crushed ! Is he really gone ? Forgive me being redundant from a former post, but I used to play keys with these guys in the summer of '85 ( the year they were nominated for a Grammy ) It was a great band and Scotty was a dear, kind soul. Road life is hard but he always kept a smile on his face. If anyone can elaborate I'd sure appreciate it as I had NO IDEA that he's left us. I lost touch with the boys awhile back. Many Thanks, Jimmy the B3 guy
Scotty is the guy on the other lead vocal. Great soulful style ! Also played trumpet ( and skank guitar in later years ). Vocal was his killer instrument though, IMHO....along
I had such a ruff day today...what a gift to hear AND SEE my brother again...you made me cry... thank you... continue to feel it...one love...sister cree
I've never heard a band that could interpret Jamaican music as tastefully as Blue Riddim. The triumph at Sunsplash 82 was bound to happen given the opportunity. This performance reinvents Michigan & Smiley's "Thank You Jah" (on the Full Up rhythm) with a brilliant, soulful arrangement -- the rhythm section is locked together perfectly. This is what the group did best.
Excellent video. Thank you a million. I was lucky enough to see them twice in Los Angeles with this line up. Once at the "On Club" and once at "The Blue Lagoon Saloon". Two of the best I've ever seen. Great video. Please tell me there is more. Thank you again for the post!
Memories of some of the happiest times of my life... This band's amazing feel for reggae would eventually get them nominated for a Grammy for the live recording of their show at Sunsplash in the early 80's. Wow... killin'!
IT;S NICE TO HEAR A BAND COVERING "THANKS YOU JAH " AND IT'S SOUNDING GOOD...BLESS UP ..MICHIGAN
