@Allina227 it was detected by an MRI after the first surgeon I saw failed to diagnose me even though I had classic symptoms of BC. A mass, inverted nipple and bloody discharge. Mammograms are not that bad if you have never had one, it is uncomfortable only for a few seconds. If they see something suspicious they may do a biopsy, also fairly painless except for the numbing needle. My second opinion with a specialist on breast cancer is the one who diagnosed me!
@naturegirlfromny Are you kidding? Did you say there's a numbing needle? Now nobody ever mention a numbing process. I thought you came in and they just start smashing boobs. If there is numbing of both breasts than i've been scared for no reason. I feel like a load of bricks have been lifted off my entire body, not just my chest lol. I was emotionally hiding under piles of bricks. ugh
@Allina277 no, I meant for a biopsy. Mammo is having your breast pressed between two plastic trays but it is only uncomfortable for few seconds.. really. If I could go with you for you mammo I would so you wouldn't be scared! There are lots of videos online showing how its done.
@dromycatcher the dose of radiation used in mammo's is so small I don't believe it can increase your risk of BC. Most women only get them bi-annually as long as there is no risk for it in the family and their baseline is good.
radiation of 1 mammogram = 1000 chest X-rays, I wouldnt call that small.. there is a better alternative screening: thermography. According to Dr. S. Epstein of the Cancer Prevention Coalition, “Screening mammography poses significant and cumulative risks of breast cancer for pre-menopausal women.” The NC Centre in Denmark found that mammos may harm 10 times as many women as they help. Since the intro of mammos, the incidence of ductal carcinoma in situ has increased by 328%
@dromycatcher I did some research and there have been many studies on this. Overall, because of newer technology while the exposure to radiation exists the benefits of early detection outweigh the risk of radiation exposure with mammos. Thanks for giving me something interesting to research.. Linda
but if you start early with mammograms, the radiation damage builds up, because it has cumulative carcinogenic effects. There are better alternative screenings like thermography . Dr Mercola speaks about this here /watch?v=e0ivT0rFNoA
Since mammographic screening was introduced, the incidence of a form of breast cancer called ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS ) has increased by 328%. Mammos can also help spread existing cancer cells due to the pressure placed on the breast
This is great, but it appears neither women are wearing their seat belts in the car! Also I have Stage 3C Lobular invasive cancer. I just finished my chemo and started radiation today. My cancer did not show up on mammo or ultrasound but could be felt. Long story short... I had a mastectomy etc.. Ladies or guys if you feel something suspicious don't take "It is nothing" for an answer like I did. Could of cost me my life.
@naturegirlfromny So how can they actually tell if it won't show up on either one. Did they just slice you open to see. I'm terrified of stuff like that, I told myself I'd rather die than to have my breasts violently smooshed with a machine.
not to mention there are women who have their breasts amputated as a preventative measure, that's just insane imo. Your gut instinct for avoiding this machinery is right; the smooshing of the breasts, if there are already cancercells present can actually help spreading the cancer plus the radiation increases your risk of cancer, esp in women who have not gone into menopause yet, because the breast tissue is very sensitive to radiation
show your tits for fucks sake!!

how dumb, mammograms actually increase your risk of getting cancer because its radiation
