@nickheck at no point is there a single herta in this warm-up. it's more like one hand doing triplets and the other doing 8th notes. tap it out and you will see.
@RCRhythm improves nothing for a listener on youtube. it causes the player to listen to other sections (quads to snares or vice versa) while playing instead of listening and playing with their section.
@tange606 I doubt that those skills are any more improved by standing in different places than the skill of drumming itself is improved by tilting the drums. I think the obvious conclusion is that, while these ideas seem plausible on paper, they're of little real benefit and are only kept around as a gimmick.
Otherwise, we'd see the Santa Clara Vanguard out-scoring all other DCI drumlines.
@NTrinityN I understand and I support that. I may have been wrong about the benefit of staggering the instruments. But it's not a qad-hearing contect, and that's kind of my bigger point. If every drumline were exactly equal, playing-wise, I don't think that having these guys stand this way would set SCV apart from any other line. I just don't see it being necessary.
My hunch is that, at some level, it's a different-for-the-sake-of-being-different sort of maneuver.
@RCRhythm I can see what you mean. Most of the time it is mainly effective for basses inside with snares as if basses are blending it sounds like a marble being shaken in a metal can.

Not bad, its a shame that some cretin in a sports cap gets his rather large head in the way of the action. If you wanna see class, find the secret swiss army drum corps on you tube.
Haha Chill kid, I play snare for my school this past season, and I was refering mostly to the back sticking part in cheesy poofs, and no I haven't been to a DCI show, But I was saying the quality makes it look sped up at that speed cause it's so smooth, and the height discipline after doing those tricks so chill.
@InfernoZX5 haha if youre suggesting its fake then you have no business even watching this video frst of all, secondly, youve obviously never been to a DCI show, or know anything about any percussive instrument except possibly the tambourine, or a clave. Maybe, f youre lucky, a suspended cymbal.
@PayneKrunk twirl stick outwards around fulcrum, toss stick upwards/forwards spin, turn head, then shrug your shoulders to the beat and start stick control like a badass
@xxshottycurbxx Can you explain to me how it's moeller technique. I thought moeller was like alot of arm and getting like a flowing stroke but he looks like he's all wrist.
@InfernoZX5 once someone practically "mastered" moeller technique, it looks like wrist. They either practiced so much with their wrists, or used moeller.
SCV!! they know how to keep it real, even though that tap off at 2:15 is unhuman and the visual at 2:43 is soooo clean, the center snare is so beast!!
@CE14392 buy the book fresh perspectives for the modern drumline. It's got SCV exercises and show excerpts. It's around 30 bucks and well worth the price!

I may be confused here, but I don't think there are any hertas in this exercise. I transcribed it a while ago.

@nickheck They're pretty much hertas. After the flam accents all throughout the exercise.

@LHSDrummer13
Oh okay i see what you're saying now, if you think about it starting on the 2nd triplet partial then they're hertas.

Actually the staggering of drums does in fact help. It allows them to hear other members better in order to improve the blending of sound.
