  • whats with that fat guy who randomly walks by!!!

  • I love how they took it like 5 beats faster just for the backsticking haha

  • I swear scv just isn't the same withobye the tilt thisyea

  • SCV seriously has some of the best exercises ever...

  • Holy crap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • dear god, cheesy poofs is an amazing exercise. Cheese's, drags, flam fives AND back sticking. Goddamn you SCV

  • this guy has manly singles

  • the tenor runs are so smooth in stick control

  • this guy's count offs are nuts

  • guiding to that 1st bass must be a real bitch...

  • I had the privelege of watching the 2009 lot in person, cleanest and loudest lot i've ever witnessed

  • look at the tech's beautiful rolling of his feet as he walks by. 1:22 perfect form

  • is it me or bass drum 5 is huge xD

  • that trick that center did during the transition was too badass.

  • Comment removed

  • In the beginning you can hear the Blue Stars beautiful horn part in the back ground

  • That awkward when you're warming up and a guy with a camera walks by filming you..

  • perfect blend of sound, brilliant.

  • My headphones can't go any louder :(

  • @TheMgjp97 its a warmup.

  • lol. @ drum23 7. stick control used to be my favorite stand cadence. now they are using it as a warm up. lmao.

  • the first two seconds i thought my screen was frozen because of how good their attention position was

  • i love the snare captain relax click!

  • many of the snare at my school play this. it might be because our percussion director marched scv back in the day

  • ditty is so over rated compared to this

  • What's up, Blue Stars hornline.

  • The relax is awesome!

  • i tripped balls in the transition

  • SCV's transitions between warm ups are god damn sexy as hell.

  • dude that visual at 2:44 was so sexy lol

  • Oh my godd... the tap offfffsss.....

  • is there any way that I can get the music for cheesy poofs on snare? or the score if that's possible?

  • @ryanBAKERMAN It's on SCV's website I'm pretty sure.

  • I have the weirdest boner right now.

  • love how you can hear the blue stars in the beginning

  • so dam sexy!!!

  • This is amazing, but what if they had cowbells?

  • @RufMixa247 I was thinking about that or ribbon crashers. For the accents in the hertas and/or the accents in the "9lets"

  • @LHSDrummer13

I may be confused here, but I don't think there are any hertas in this exercise. I transcribed it a while ago.

  • @nickheck They're pretty much hertas. After the flam accents all throughout the exercise.

  • @LHSDrummer13

Oh okay i see what you're saying now, if you think about it starting on the 2nd triplet partial then they're hertas.

  • @nickheck at no point is there a single herta in this warm-up. it's more like one hand doing triplets and the other doing 8th notes. tap it out and you will see.

  • @Qsxcgyujm

You're right, but the rhythm is there if you start on the 2nd partial, the fourth note is a flam though so it's not a herta

  • this video is what made me want to start playing tenors instaed of snare

  • From what I can see, sloping the drums and staggering the drummers does absolutely nothing to improve anything.

  • @RCRhythm improves nothing for a listener on youtube. it causes the player to listen to other sections (quads to snares or vice versa) while playing instead of listening and playing with their section.

  • @tange606 I doubt that those skills are any more improved by standing in different places than the skill of drumming itself is improved by tilting the drums. I think the obvious conclusion is that, while these ideas seem plausible on paper, they're of little real benefit and are only kept around as a gimmick.

Otherwise, we'd see the Santa Clara Vanguard out-scoring all other DCI drumlines.

  • @RCRhythm

Actually the staggering of drums does in fact help. It allows them to hear other members better in order to improve the blending of sound.

  • @NTrinityN I understand and I support that. I may have been wrong about the benefit of staggering the instruments. But it's not a qad-hearing contect, and that's kind of my bigger point. If every drumline were exactly equal, playing-wise, I don't think that having these guys stand this way would set SCV apart from any other line. I just don't see it being necessary.

My hunch is that, at some level, it's a different-for-the-sake-of-being-different sort of maneuver.

  • @RCRhythm I can see what you mean. Most of the time it is mainly effective for basses inside with snares as if basses are blending it sounds like a marble being shaken in a metal can.

  • @NTrinityN Sorry about the grammar ticks; this keyboard is impossible to type on.

  • 2 people have to "warmup" to this warmup ;}

  • Not bad, its a shame that some cretin in a sports cap gets his rather large head in the way of the action. If you wanna see class, find the secret swiss army drum corps on you tube.

  • @falconoilcompany how did "class" come into play?

  • Haha Chill kid, I play snare for my school this past season, and I was refering mostly to the back sticking part in cheesy poofs, and no I haven't been to a DCI show, But I was saying the quality makes it look sped up at that speed cause it's so smooth, and the height discipline after doing those tricks so chill.

  • 2:43 is by far the coolest solo visual, audible i have ever seen in my life.

  • After 2:43 I was like OOHHHHH SHIITTTT.

  • Factory workers in the background.

  • does anybody have sheet music for both cheesy poofs and stick control?

  • snare second to the right messes up at 2:38? but gets right back in it like a boss

  • @squirrelsandhorses nah he doesnt those are just ghosted notes, they look freakin sweet though, check out all the snares they all do it

  • Dude! That transition from Cheesy Poofs to Stick Control is so dope!! How are their hands not about to fall off?!

  • This video sounds and looks alittle speed up. the sound is distorted alittle.

  • @InfernoZX5 haha if youre suggesting its fake then you have no business even watching this video frst of all, secondly, youve obviously never been to a DCI show, or know anything about any percussive instrument except possibly the tambourine, or a clave. Maybe, f youre lucky, a suspended cymbal.

  • wtf?

how does he do that thing at 4:32

  • @PayneKrunk twirl stick outwards around fulcrum, toss stick upwards/forwards spin, turn head, then shrug your shoulders to the beat and start stick control like a badass

  • @PayneKrunk Very carefuly

  • I'm beginning to work on more DL stuff on snare.. I think my first step is to work on Cheesy Poofs. Woop!

  • Vanguard has the sweetest warm-ups, they're so dam fun to play as well

  • Best tuned tenors in dci

  • @TheColbles2009 Idk about that. Phantoms tenors sound amazing. lol

  • That horn part in the beginning sounds beautiful

  • 2:43... the reason i play drums.

  • is the tap off a slurred six with backsticking on the down beat and very last note before the down beat so the sticking would be (R)llrr(L)R?

  • @whitecastleawesome correct

  • hooray for legalized midgets playing bass 1

  • yay for five year old bass 1 drummers

  • 2:43 = the definition of badassery

  • 2:43 is so bad ass

  • also this is SCV's warmup. I have to warm up just to play this decently

  • @iliketodrum23 are you warming up just to hit the play button??

  • After a while it just looks like they've just sped the entire video up to 2x. >.<

    SCV is the boss!

  • Comment removed

  • I have both the full snare part and full tenor part for Cheesy Poofs.

Also, the last iteration of stick control for the tenors is freaking awesome. Vanguard has some of the best tenor parts.

  • @ATK824 may you send me the tenor parts for cheesy poofs and stick control?

  • 3 people missed the like button.

  • does anyone know where I can find the music to this fro tenors thanks

  • took me awhile to realize he's using moeller technique to do the first tapoff

  • @xxshottycurbxx Can you explain to me how it's moeller technique. I thought moeller was like alot of arm and getting like a flowing stroke but he looks like he's all wrist.

  • @InfernoZX5 once someone practically "mastered" moeller technique, it looks like wrist. They either practiced so much with their wrists, or used moeller.

  • Center snare, 2:44 , so freakin col

  • @BLAZE9857 wtf, i put 2:44 and it goes to 2:48....

  • i lost count of how many times i've watched center snare at 2:50. so siq.

  • Is the transcription of Cheesy Poofs that's floating around the internet, accurate to this video?

  • SCV!! they know how to keep it real, even though that tap off at 2:15 is unhuman and the visual at 2:43 is soooo clean, the center snare is so beast!!

  • I love 3:06

  • now that girl on the far left if center snare. what a baddass

  • i liked hearing blue stars in the very beginning haha

  • Anybody know where i can get the tenor part for this?

  • @CE14392 buy the book fresh perspectives for the modern drumline. It's got SCV exercises and show excerpts. It's around 30 bucks and well worth the price!

  • 2:44 is my fav part

  • scv is so beast

  • the girl on the very left is this years center snare

  • @coasterfreak1029 whats her name?

  • So fresh and so clean clean

  • Whenever i first got to this video i thought my computer froze cuz they were so still!!!

  • nobody sounds better on Pearl drums in the lot than SCV!!

  • 2:14 is where the shit goes down.. Love this exercise.

  • EVERY TIME i watch this video, i feel like the beginning couple seconds are frozen...

  • anyone know what sticking it is after the left to right hand puhduhduh at 0:32

  • @InfernoZX5 RllrrLrrll they're 5-lets

  • @knexems That makes way more sense. Now i can play this right xD

  • @knexems do you know the sticking for the back sticking tap off too?

  • @InfernoZX5 i pretty sure that it's (b)RLLRR(b)LR (b)=backstick

  • @knexems that's what I was i thinking, but my friends are doing (R)LRR(L)(L)R. It sounds unnatural and unclean they have to struggle to do it.

  • @InfernoZX5 yeah, hes definitely not doing two left hand backsticks in a row.

  • Comment removed

    * being the backsticks

  • @SnareKidJoel Haha yeah, not until you said something though.

  • ROAF....

  • Oh my god. These tenors are ridiculously amazing. I love how every runthrough of stick control has a new split, each more badass than the previous. Amazing.

  • my fav dci drumline by far

  • Holy fuck I thought it was just a picture in the beginning then the snare moved.......

  • beast tap offs haha. and the stick flip thing before the transition to stick control is awesome too

  • Tap off at 2:15 was amazing!
