  • Do you have any tips for growing trombone players?

  • Bravo Maestro

  • Carl, the best!

  • Reminds me of the days when big bands / orchestras were cool and stuff like this was on TV often. This is how I ended up learning to play the trombone as a kid in the 70's, because I heard Don Lusher playing sentimental over you with the Jack Parnell orchestra on TV. Kids don't wanna learn anymore because real music doesn't get the exposure like it in the days this was recorded. I hope one day kids realise they're being ripped off by talentless morons, and turn back to real music.

  • Nhsueuehhd

  • Awesome video! thanks for the upload. However, sometimes I just want to see them play a fifth position or maybe a sixth (I geuss that is the classical trombonist in me :) and just on a side note why arent there any bad ass bass trombone improves like this?

  • @SuperTB4

Check out Bill Reichenbach. He's a bad ass bass bonist who does some soloing.

  • @KBChuck Thanks!

  • Quality stuff!

  • Marc, this is absolutely beautiful! One of my favorite songs to play and listen to. Two very distinct sounds between you and Carl.

  • Excellent!

  • That's one hell of a nose

  • Please guys: don't forget to worship marc's playing. He was a young man back then and i think he has done a terrific job here .. standing next to an experienced giant like carl. and also thanks to marc for putting this video in high quality on youtube for us to enjoy!

  • is this like free jazz improvisation?

  • Carl really owns in this video...

  • MAGNIFICENT....in musicianship, audio and video.

  • That was either a random shot of an audience or they had no idea or appreciation of what they just heard.

  • Marc (that's me) is playing a silver plated King 2b in those days. Now I am endorsing the Michael Rath R10 trombone. I think Carl Fontana was playing a Vincent Bach 12 at that time.

  • @tbonemarc

Hold up a second.... You're telling me you're Marc Godfroid and you played with Carl Fontana?!

  • What kind of trombones are they using?

  • Pretty good ! Where was this and who is that band. , pls ? Enjoyed and thanks !!

  • This is the Metropole Orchestra. This was recorded in a television studio in Hilversum (Netherlands)

  • Yeah Carl, that lick he keeps playing is his tradmark. I love it, one of my favorite licks. Carl is the man!

  • recording in 1987

  • And a great band too!

  • ... just amazing ! I don't think I watch it without learning something new. Thanks for the post.

  • can you please tell me what year this was recorded? thanks

  • @cambuma2 2007

  • @tbonemarc It can't have been recorded in 2007. Carl died in 2003! It looks at least 20 years old to me. Carl looks well and Marc looks young - and he isn't playing a Rath trombone, which he has been doing for a while now.

  • @tbonemarc It says in the write up 1987. It can't have been 2007 as Carl died in 2003.

  • i'd pay some serious cash for a transcription of that performance.

carl fontana is just sooo amazing, along with marc godfroid.

  • Beautiful clip - thanx so much for posting! You can really hear Carl's influence on Marc's playing!

  • Carl Fontana, the best jazz trombonist!

  • Comment removed

  • I love how carl keeps his reserve while playing; just like a conversation - so very natural!

  • Thanks for posting this wonderful video!!!

  • Very nice!!! Thanks fir the post...

  • yes, CF is the best.

  • This is incredible playing. Keep posting, please!!
