I'm a conservative Christian ACORN member and I can confirm the charges against it are overblown.
We did not commit voter fraud. There is no shred of evidence to this false allegation. The opinion polling numbers were evenly matched with the actual voter roll numbers.
Just wanted to put the anti-ACORN smear/myth to rest.
Well, if you believe the right-wing noise machine, it was all three.
But the reality is that ACORN's overall rate of "suspicious" cards was 1.5% or about 60K out of 1.3 million, spread out across 70 metro areas. That's fewer than 1K per county, which is a rate lower than applications gathered by state DMV's.
However, I suspect you aren't interested in the facts, but rather in scoring ideological points, so not matter what kinds of facts I put down here are going to be ignored.
No taxpayer money is used for ACORN's voter engagement work, so it is unclear what you mean when you say "crap like this", though I'm sure such fine points of fact are really tangential to this entire comment thread, which is more about venting one's point of view than discussing what actually happened.
WHAT? Why are congressmen calling for investigatin and suspension of taxpayer money to acorn and the AHC? MILLIONS are wasted in taxpayer money on these biased groups- money that could be used for something worthwhile...
It is pointless to argue facts here because everyone has an ideological bias in favor of their position. I only respond to make sure the facts actually get put out in public.
Fact: AHC has NOTHING to do with ANY electoral participation work. NONE. Period, end of story.
Fact: ACORN uses no tax payer money for ANY electoral work. Period.
Fact: ACORN only gets sub-contracts on competitive grants for things like lead paint abatement and helping foreclosure victicm stay in their homes.
The whole country? In one election? Because of 1.3 million voter registration applications? I wasn't aware that this great country was so fragile that something like that could take it down.
I think we are stronger than that and having millions of new voters join the process just makes us stronger.
Why do you hate America? Do you want the terrorists to win?
not if they join only to benefit your liberal agenda which will allow terrorists much more power by seeing us as not as much of a threat. not sure how terrorism got into this conversation but you brought it up....
and your playful comments seem very unprofessional coming from an organization that I feel should be extremely professional at all times. but i guess that's why your under investigation.
you one of those hicks that thinks fear suppresses terrorism? muslims dont fear you or death. they just want the end of the world just like palin. acorn wants to protect people from voter injustices, thats why faux news spun it form the getgo saying acorn was being fraudulent.
How is McCain personally responsible for this? Is this guy for real or just an actor? Get this message ACORN, OBAMA AND ALL DEMOCRATS: McCain is not personally responsible for everthing going on in this world.
TO ACORNCOMMUNITY!! Ah yes. I remember Clinton. 8 years of economic expansion and growth. The longest peacetime expansion in US history. 5 million jobs created. Those were horrible years. Let's definitely not go back to that! Don't forget the republican majority in the house and senate started in 1996! NAIVE MORON!
People are still trying the blame the president for the currrent economy. Democrats take no responsibility for the financial crisis, even though Pelosi, Dodd, Frank and Reid are on subcommittees for the banking and financial systems?
And Obama's contribution to ACORN had nothing to do with this commercial, their endorsement of Obama? Why is ACORN so mad at McCain? Is ACORN blaming McCain for being caught registering Mickey Mouse? Probably, after all everything is McCain's fault. This is such a transparent effort at defense by offense, but I've not seen one news story about McCain attempting to suppress the vote, though he did poke fun at Acorn's fine work registering the dead and cartoon characters. Please
Wow. So much misinformation, so little time... Obama's campaign did not make any contributions to ACORN.
If you bothered to read any of the info about how ACORN's program works you would understand that ACORN flagged all those cards itself, but was required by law to turn them in. That's just the way it works. I'm sorry you are scared of all the new voters coming into the system. You would think people would be happy that our democracy is getting stronger.
We aren't scared of new voters we are scared of voters who have registered multiple times and therefor voting multiple times. I'm from MO, which is a major swing state in this election. Voter fraud if highly prevalent and of a GREAT concern to many citizens of my state. To belittle our concern is frankly insulting. You wonder why I don't support your organization? Well you answered it!!! Insulting other is your best deffense to take the spot light of of yourself. How righteous.
Dude, if you fill out multiple cards you can still only vote once. These cards were caught in the first place, proving that the screening system works. The US VR system has very good integrity and is exceptionally difficult to monkeywrench. The biggest vulnerability is absentee voting, which has far fewer safeguards for proving identity. These multiple cards are caught by the BOE and tossed. No one is going to vote 2 twice because they filled out two cards. Ask any elections official.
If Acorn is such an angel, why are 12 States doing criminal investigations on your corporation and why have many of your people gone to jail. The gentleman and I use the word loosely that is bring charges of racism against Virginia being racist is suing them for not having enough voting machines in white areas and calling that racism against the blacks. Get over this loose term of Racism, Voter fraud is voter fraud. It's about the Dems doing everything they can to win at all costs period.
INvestigations are not convictions. These investigations are into cards and employees, not the organization as a whole. In NC we submitted 28,000 cards, and the are investigating... 4 of them. All of which we flagged first and turned in to them as required by law. With a coversheet noting we thought they were "suspicious". Also that's not voter fruad, it is voter registration fraud. And VR fraud has never been linked to widespread voter fraud. I'm sorry you are so threatend by new voters.
Not threatened by new voters at all there Acorn, just threatened by Mickey Mouse voting and People from Europe flying into the U.S. to vote, and illegal aliens voting, and New Yorkers driving to Ohio renting a house and voting in Ohio then driving back to N.Y. to vote there too. Keep trying to justify yourself, oh and what about the loans you forced on the Government to make to those that could not afford to pay for houses. No guilt in that either right.
The only thing ACORN does in any of this list is help people fill out VR applications. If you have problems with the rest of it you should contact the relevant Secretaries of State instead of posting on this little comment board.
That is so idiotic and hypocritical! Way to go ACORN. ACORN, Democrats and Obama blame McCain for everything that happens. But Acorn was not the perpetrator, it was employees who frauded?. Obama is not blamed for being associated with shady characters? Democrats take no responsibility for the financial crisis, even though Pelosi, Dodd, Frank and Reid are on subcommittees for the banking and financial systems? And it's OK that they all take contributions from Freddie and Fannie?
hahaha, right... dlbaez makes a point and you do not respond to it at all. just simply make a stupid joke and don't touch on the point at all. ACORN is a liberal organization whose purpose is to gain liberal voters. that's obvious in many ways. 1st is this commercial. bottom line. deny it all your want but that is the true. your saying not to vote for mccain right after you sign them up to vote. who do you think they are going to vote for? i want them to vote. just should be totally their choice
No one is getting "brainwashed" here. People are smart enough to make up their own minds. Give them some credit for knowing the issues and understanding which candidate's policies will benefit them most.
acorncommunity. You are in total denial that anything unethical or even illegal has occurred with the voter registation ACORN has undertaken. You act like this is the first time that ACORN has been under investigation. It's not about race, but ACORN targets specific races and communities. I have witnessed an ACORN rep getting registrations in an ER room, targetting the sick and poor. Is that ethical? You are the first to attack and call others racist when that is not their intention. HATER
I'm not in denial. I have access to all the same info the investigators have. It's not the first time ACORN has been under investigation, true. And in every other case it has been vindicated. Ex-ACORN employees, fired by the org., have been brought to justice with ACORN's cooperation in the past.
I challenge your witnessing ACORN staff in the ER. Please present proof. That's not how our canvassers are trained or managed. We have never called anyone racist and condemn hate.
Exactly how do you propose I present proof? I didn't have a video camera in my pocket. This is just what I witnessed. I was obviously not at the ER to try to catch this individual in the act. I was minding my own business. You need to take a page from Dr. King's handbook and respect all human life. Once again I quote, "Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that." --Martin Luther King Jr. Oh and he has many more where that came from. What a brillant man! What a shame we lost him!
Look, everyone is calling me a liar here even though I present numbers that have been checked out by lots of media outlets and verified. All I have from you is your assertion that you saw something. You don't say what city, you don't say how you knew they were from ACORN, nothing. Why should I believe what you say when it is clear that all you want to do is discredit the organization? I don't understand what this has to do with respecting human life. I'm not calling anyone ugle names.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.
--Martin Luther King Jr.
An individual who breaks a law that conscience tells him is unjust, and who willingly accepts the penalty of imprisonment in order to arouse the conscience of the community over its injustice, is in reality expressing the highest respect for the law.
ACORN is a bs group and should really only be allowed to operate if they were in fact bi-partisan. who do you think people are gonna vote for when the agency helping them endorses obama. of course obama. now we know that is the whole reason ACORN was started. to get more democratic votes. I agree more people should vote. but they shouldn't be brainwashed into one candidate. they should get equal representation of both candidates and choose themselves. and i can guess the response i'm gonna get.
ACORN has members from across the party spectrum. It registers people without regard to party affiliation, unlike the GOP which hired Young Political Majors to do VR and they were indicted for destroying apps from people who registered as Democrats. ACORN has been around for 38 years and it was started to fight for working families on the issues of importance to them. The VR work is to help more people from these backgrounds participate in the system.
see in that reply alone you have proven what you said is wrong. it should be your policy to never comment on candidates or sway one way or another. only to register people. i mean please. your tv ad that we are commenting on explains it. you are a liberal organization put in place to get liberal voters to vote. yes some conservative voters get through and do vote but still. your commercial attacks mccain in the hope people will watch, come register, and vote obama. bottom line. NOT bi-partisan..
We don't claim to be "bi-partisan". We are "non-partisan" meaning we are not a political party organization. We have a PAC which makes endoresments called ACORN Votes.
We advocate for our members and for working families not for a particular party. We pursue progressive public policy issues, but we were not "put in place to get liberal voters". We have a 38 year history of organizing and fighting for working families and that includes taking on Democrats as well as Republicans.
BULL CRICKEY, You received over 800,000 dollars in money support from Obama, Non-Partisan my eye. Why can't you people ever just tell the truth once. Why is it so easy for people to just to blantantly lie to one another now a days. Doesn't anyone have any morals in this world anymore. Oh yeah, you don't believe in God who tell us in Galatians what happens to liars. Sorry my bad.
No. A non-profit political consulting organization called Citizens' Services, Inc. received that money for GOTV work in the primaries. ACORN got a small sub-contract of about $80K to do some recruitment and training of canvassers.
Non-partisan means not a party organization. ACORN is a non-profit membership-based community organization, like a union or a church. None of that is a lie, it is all documented. Facts are inconvenient things sometimes.
everything your saying is non-sense. it's reworded just like everything else in the liberal media to make it out to be true. your telling me your non-partisan and your "not for a particular party"... what i hate more than anything is people lying to me. the same ad we are commenting on says not to vote for John McCain. While it does not say, "vote Obama!" it is directly implying that. the worst part is not how much people like you lie. it's how much stupid people believe you. I voted already...
I'm just giving you the definition of what "non-partisan" is as it exists in the US Tax Code, which is what you are so upset about. We are officially non-partisan according to the official definition. That's not lying it's the documented truth. The ad doesn't say to vote for or against anyone. It says to call McCain. Maybe you should watch it again. (Please? We need the view count to go up!)
And every card filled out must be turned in. That means if someone fills out a card and says they're voting for McCain, ACORN has to turn it in. And if someone fills out a card and says they're Mickey Mouse, ACORN still has to turn it in. That is the LAW. If a card is clearly fraudulent, ACORN flags it but still has to turn it in. And that is exactly what they've done.
There are paid voter-registration canvassers from all over the political spectrum. There's nothing unethical about it. Voter registration drives are a time-honored effort used by every social cause you could name, including conservative ones.
And it's simply untrue to say that ACORN was founded to increase Democratic votes. It's been around for decades, with programs ranging from affordable housing, to rebuilding New Orleans, to helping people who can't afford accountants prepare their taxes, to pressing local officials to repair sidewalks. Voter registration is only one of many programs, most of which are totally unrelated to elections. Federal money is not being used to register voters for one party. It just isn't. That's a fact.
I've seen ACORN's good work firsthand in New Orleans and CT, so I've just been heartsick listening to the McCain campaign's attacks. They know how ACORN works, but are willfully distorting the facts to play on the fears of voters who don't. It's cynical political manipulation. And it hurts working people and minorities by damaging a fine organization that provides social services and brings people together to fight for their rights.
This is such a transparent effort at defense by offense, but I've not seen one news story about McCain attempting to suppress the vote, though he did poke fun at Acorn's fine work registering the dead and cartoon characters. Please.
Don't be jealous that ACORN helped register 450K new voters and 450K people who needed to reregister in order to vote next week. We flagged all the bad cards first, but are required by law to turn them in any way. That's why you hear about it in the first place - because the system works and these bad cards were caught. I'm sorry the conservatives can't do the same thing.
I'm not jealous, but I am disgusted, disgusted that Acorn gets taxpayer money. Acorn claims to be "nonpartisan" yet publicly endorses Obama. That makes every taxpayer an Obama contributor, and THAT disenfranchises ME.
Actually, ACORN's PAC endorsed Obama, which has completely segregated sources of money. Second, the only taxpayer money ACORN gets is as a sub-contractor on competitive grants awarded based on performance and no money is paid until the work is complete. This was for things like helping families abate lead paint and stay in their homes when facing foreclosure. No taxpayer money goes to anything else, so you aren't paying for anything you don't like. Non-partisan means not a party org. We aren't.
You're telling me you don't get public money for get-out-the-vote efforts? But that's how Obama amended his $800,000 payment to you after no one bought the "stage lighting" excuse. This spot is an anti-McCain political spot devoid of factual references, and it is paid for by Acorn. That's what your video disclaimer says. Having read Ms. Moncrief's testimony is reported in the WSJ, I have a better understanding of Acorn. But good work on the lead paint abatement. We're all for that, I hope.
Yep. That's what I'm telling you. The record keeping on public money is insane and every dollar is strictly accounted for. The IRS and HUD know where all the grant dollars go, believe me.
Campaigns file amended briefs all the time. Ask the FEC. It is routine. They made a mistake and fixed it.
But I realize I'm having an argument in a fact-free environment.
Wow! More crap from ACORN. Hey ACORN what about the 400,000 plus fake voter registrations and the current multi state FBI investigation into your organization? ACORN-Voting fraud is our job! Safeguarding voting rights is a noble cause but ACORN is a corrupt, politically motivated, partisan trash heap.
ACORN's records, which we are sharing with all agencies investigating the canvassers who defrauded us by trying to get paid for not doing work, indicate that about 33% were new voters, 33% were change of address, 20-25% were duplicates from people already registered, but not sure that they were, 5-6% were spoiled (incomplete, bad handwriting) and 1.5% were potentially fake. The 400K number includes all three of those last categories and is an incorrect conflation. We flagged all fake cards.
Gov Sarah Palin was for SOCIALISM before against it.
New Yorker, she explained the windfall profits tax that she imposed on the oil industry in AK so Alaskans "share in the wealth:"
"And Alaska—we're set up, unlike other states in the union, where it's collectively Alaskans own the resources. So we share in the wealth when the development of these resources occurs. .. It's to maximize benefits for Alaskans, not an individual company, not some multinational somewhere, but for Alaskans."
ACORN's rate of spoiled applications (incomplete, bad handwriting, etc) was about 5-6% or about 65,000 cards out of 1.3 million. The rate at which canvassers tried to defraud the organization by filling out fake cards was 1.5% or about 9,500 cards out of 1.3 million. I don't know what that says about "all their bogus" apps, but that's a pretty good rate to me.
Mickey Mouse isn't going to vote. Neither is Daffy Duck.
You don't need to believe me. The people conducting the reviews of ACORN's procedures do. They are the ones who see all the evidence, the copies we kept (where legal), the coversheets, the personnel records, etc.
Your unwillingness to consider an arguement from someone you disagree with is disappointing, but hardly unexpected.
Sorry, but I can't agree with someone who is deliberately out to deceive on behalf of a Marxist. So save your attempts at playing to my feelings for someone more gullible.
Dude, I don't care about your feelings. I just find it funny that you want a one-sided rant-fest without listening to what the other guys says. I thought we lived in a country where people respected each other and tried to understand where they wre coming from. You don't know anything about me and I don't know anything about you, but you insist on calling me names.
Please prove that we are cheating. We have been open and transparent with every investigation. We've provided records, copies, cards, timesheets, coversheets, everything. Investigations are just that, they are not convictios.
I understand we disagree about what needs to be done to address America's challenges, but I seriously doubt you are going to lose any rights and you won't lose money, unless you make over $250K a year, and then it will only be a small tax increase. But facts are inconvient
Do you even know what a Marxist is? I mean, really? Cuz the don't talk about taxing, they talk about nationalizing all of industry and private propterty and that's not what's happening here.
Also tonight Obama was clear: he said $250,000. I'm not trying to convince you to vote a certain way, I just want to have a discussion based on facts, not ideology and rhetoric. But I think that's a losing thought.
"Spreading the waelth around," in case you didn't know, is Marxism.
Obama has also said $300,000 in the past, and $200,000.
Now its down to $150,000 accoridng to his vP pick.
The deceptions continue, yet you keep swallowing the Kool Aid. It will come down further, I guarantee that. People fell for it with Clinton, and are falling for it with the empty suit
Ah yes. I remember Clinton. 8 years of economic expansion and growth. The longest peacetime expansion in US history. 5 million jobs created. Those were horrible years. Let's definitely not go back to that!
And despite the recession he gave us -- oh, and he showed the Islamic extremists we're too afraid to fight if we're attacked -- Bush pulled us out.... despite 9/11 too.
Peacetime?!??! We might not have been at war with anyone (as I recall, he put us in several areas of battle).... but they were at war with us.
What? There's no white guilt in the handbook! The handbook explicitly says we don't have to worry about that. You probably don't know the secret handshake either!
If he was intimidated whose fault is that? Acorn, he owes it all to you and to his own personality defects. I would never be so initimidated as to not vote. Amazing. He only has himself to blame.
Okay. We'll bear that in mind Mr. Blame The Victim. Or did you forget about Jim Crow, the Civil Rights Movement, etc? We're slowing moving past all that. But slowly.
Umm... ACORN's only government funding comes as part of competitive grant programs in which it is a sub-contractor charged with doing a very limited amount of work. Two examples: working with families in homes with lead paint to abate the poison and working with families faced with foreclosure to help them stay in their homes. That's it.
In charge? haha You act like he's the one that has made all the decisions. Judges are breaking and rewriting laws. It's obvious that the president doesn't control everything.
Its more than gay marriage or keeping stupid things like ID out of public school.
He as POTUS decided to go to war in iraq on flimsy 'evidence", remember he was the decider.
Or lets look at civil liberties? You do know what your civil liberties are dont you? Actually I should say what you had since BushCo has gone and ripped that apart.
You need to stop drinking the cool aid, the man was a disgrace to the office, and humanity.
And what about the civil rights being stripped away from Joe the Plumber, whom Obama approached FIRST? He;s being investigated by Obamatons!
What about the freedom of speech of WFTV, or the station in Florida that the Obama-Biden team has now said they will no longer grant interviews to because they asked that mental case Biden too many tough questions?
Don't tell me about losing civil liberties, when Team Barack is doing FAR worse than Bush ever dreamed of, and they're not even elected yet!!
Oh yeah, he's so persecuted he hired a Nashville-based agent to represent him and he was offered a recording contract! Oh and McCain's campaign has never refused interviews before. That's not freedom of speech. That's just not giving an interview. The station can still say whatever they want.
Somehow I don't think team Barack is doing anything that even comes close to suspending habeous corpus, but I'm not lawyer.
Team Obama told both WFTV and that Philly station, no more interviews for you, for the way you treated Biden. They also threatened WGN of Chicago, when they were going to bring in David Fredosso. End of story.
Sorry, but again, trusting an ACORN supporter with telling the truth about Obama?
I'd sooner believe Charles Manson trying to tell me how to be a law-abiding citizen!
So what? That's not abriding freedom of speech unless you think that means that everyone has to submit to every interview request made to them. It might be characterized as cowardice, but you didn't say that.
Dude, you don't know anything about me. I don't know anything about you. I bet we'd be nice and polite to each other if we were on line together at the post office or grocery store. I thought America was about people being able to love the country despite difference backgrounds. Guess not.
I said "so what" meaning it isn't abridging freedom of speech to refuse an interview, not "so what" to your overall trepidation.
Please tell me which rights you are going to lose. I, for one, am glad I'm about to get habeous corpus back.
I think we do have a lot in common. We are both Americans. We both love our country. We both want what's best for the next generation. No matter who is presdident we can come together around those things.
Funny, about that habeous corpus thing was how the Bush Admin said it didn't apply to US Citizens if they were accused of terrorism and they went all the way to the supreme court before they lost. Dude who was in prison for 4 years before that decision basically lost that right for that whole time.
Going to be happy that that kind of extremist tendency isn't in office anymore.
Are you at all disturbed that the LA Times refuses to show a video of Obama yukking it up with, and toasting and praising a Paletinian terrorist at anti-Semite?
Where's my right to view that video, under the First Amendment?
Umm, the first amendment gives you the right to publish whatever you want, not read whatever you want. So if you can find the tape, you can publish it.
Frankly I have no opinion on this. I just heard about it today. If you think that's what's going to win the election for McCain, then go for it. You can find the LA Times on the internet and call the publisher. Knock yourself out.
I know they say that more voters usually helps Dems but Acorn must be registering a lot of right-wing nuts also.
Plus nobody has said anything about voter fraud. That would require a voter. This is about registration forms. Do people show up with fake IDs trying to vote? Of course not..Give me a break sheeple.
You check your Constitution. See Amendments XIX, XXIV, and XXVI. They all start out with words similar to "The right of citizens of the United States to vote..." Would you infer that their is no Constitutional right to vote from these amendments? Others can dig more, and will probably find more. Yeah, I looked at Bush V. Gore...there is a constitutional right to vote. You're an uninformed idiot pmw1718.
Acorn the wonderful group being investigated in about a DOZEN states for voter registration FRAUD!! saltandsavor-you need to use the brain God gave you and see the light!!
First, ACORN is not being investigated; canvassers who were fired by ACORN are being investigated. Second, we are confident that all these investigations will show that our systems were the first place that flagged these bad cards; we flagged them first and turned them in with coversheets.
Investigations are just that, investigations. Not convictions. And we will cooperate fully with any prosecution of fired canvassers b/c they defrauded us by trying to get paid for not doing the work.
I think ACORN is indeed invaluable to all real Americans who want a country that is indeed free to vote as they intend, and believe in the God-given right to do so. You are doing your work well--and that is why Republicans keep trying to silence you. I for one will let everyone know the true, honorable work of ACORN.
Finally, a push back against the racist accusations against ACORN! McCain = Jim Crow and the GOPigs that support voter suppression! There can be no letting up now against these bigots!
This is an excellant point, though I'm sure the commentor meant it as a way to absolve today's GOP from its voter suppression tactics.
Leaving that aside, it is absolutely true that Democrats used voter supression tactics in the Jim Crow South to keep Blacks from voting, just as Republicans in the North used voter registration laws to keep immigrants, Catholics, and urban voters away from the polls.
This is an issue of who has a voice and who doesn't and right now the GOP is at fault.
WHICH "voter suppression tactics." Your race-baiting ad here merely says McCain is a racist and trying to suppress votes. It doesn't even hint at anything McCain has supposedly done. Why don't you tell us what he's supposedly done. ONE thing he's done to suppress the black vote or ANY votes.
Doesn't have to be McCain doing it personally. He wouldn't be that stupid. It's other Republicans who are trying to suppress the black vote because they know it generally tends democratic and liberal, i.e., anti-McCain/Palin.
I'm not absolving any tactic to suppress the right for anyone to vote. As a Catholic, the old Democrats in the south didnt like us much either.
I appreciated the work ACORN did after Katrina, I'm upset about the registration fraud.
If anything, the ad isn't non partisan and your organization must be so to continue to be taxpayer funded. I will be writing my congressman and senators (one of which is a Democrat and I'm also voting for) to bring to their attention.
The registration fraud was commited by canvassers against ACORN trying to get paid for work they did not do. The fraud was caught, flagged, and turned over to the proper authorities, as required by law. We want these people brought to justice just like you do.
ACORN is not a tax-exempt organization and it is not "taxpayer funded". It does get some federal grants to help with lead paint abatement and foreclosures. Therefore it can call out politicians by name when they attack us. So we did.
ACORN pays people by the hour, not the card. There is no incentive to provide bogus cards other than the wish to get paid for doing no work.
The number of fake cards was about 9500, not 400,000. See the breakdown above. That 400K number includes duplicate apps from people who are already registered but weren't sure if they were or not. Those are perfectly legal cards. About 65K cards were incomplete or spoiled. Why are you so scared of these voters that you have to give bad statistics and lie?
Then how do you defend against the countless testimonies of ACORN employees who said there was one? Or the numerous reports by the Employment Policies Institute who also say there was one?
We have timesheets, staff policies, training manuals, and signed forms from our program. The investigators see all this. It helps them convict the people defrauding ACORN and commiting felonies against the system. It is part of how we cooperate with the investigations. The EPI is simply not credible as a source. They are a funded by the restaurant industry and they exist to stop living wage and minimum wage laws. Their charges are scurrilous and not worth responding to.
And as I said before, THIS IS ABOUT FRAUD. NOT BIGOTRY. I'm not "scared of voters." Everyone has the right to vote, and I absolutely support that. However, when an organization commits widespread FRAUD--enough to warrant a multi-state FBI investigation, I DO have a problem with that.
We have not been contacted by the FBI so we can't comment on whether there is or is not an FBI investigation. Each investigation you mention is into actions by a handful of canvassers, not ACORN itself and in many cases involves a handful of cards. For example, in NC, we submitted 28,000 cards and they investigated 4 of them. We're talking about about 9500 cards out of 1.3 million. That's simply not widespread fraud.
Well done, ACORN. It is no surprise to me that elements of the Republican Party are willing to suppress the votes of people of color and young people to remain in power. What is disturbing is the degree that they have found willing institutions to go along (courts, county election boards, etc.) This election will go down in history as the largest, systematic voter disenfranchisement since the 1950s. Keep on speaking truth to power, ACORN.
What kind of BS is this? If the Young Political Majors, which is connectted with the CA Republican Party did this, you pro-ACORN folks would not believe in that crap.
But it's fine that ACORN cheats, so long as it's for the right candidate.
ACORN doesn't cheat. they turn in all the names of registered voters as they are required to do by law. they go over the list first and flag any names that don't seem right. stop drinking the RNC kool aid and actually read up on this information
Really who is drinking something. They turn in a truckload full of registrations on the last day and more than half are faulty. The boards have to spend lots of taxpayer dollars going over them even if ACORN happens to flag a few of them hoping of course that it causes chaos and maybe some will get though or someone can complain that theirs was removed. Way to many reasons for this farce. REGISTAR, SHOW ID THEN VOTE YOU DONT NEED ACORN FOR THAT.
Actually ACORN turns in its registrations twice a week for the duration of the drive, expressly to avoid a last minute surge. We never hold a card more than 7 days even during huge weeks. We don't flag "a few" we flag all and divide them into 3 piles, to help officials with their difficult jobs. There may have been a spike at the end, like any deadline, (just look at PO's on Tax Day), but that spike didn't come from us.
I'm glad that they protected Mickey Mouse's right to vote. And dead people. And people who do not live in the state where they are trying to vote. I'm glad that they protect votes like that. They doing a great job.
Too bad you aren't too bright. Likely a Republican plant, or just one over-zealous idiot did the misappropriate voter registrations. Acorn is still a good organization. Too bad there's not an organization for idiots like you....cause you could take the short bus to get there!
Thank you for this wonderful ad. It brings tears to my eyes when I think about the people (like the man in this video) who were denied so much just because of their skin color.
Please, friends, go out and vote this time... I know we can do this! Not just for ourselves and our country, but for people like the man in this video.
linkin06: "when did mccain disenfranchise people again?"
His campaign and party have tried as recently as last week. It's crooked, and it won't work this time.
It's sad when you keep forcing yourself to continue to support a stinking corpse of a campaign. All the air freshener in the world can't hide the smell of decay.
Thank you to ACORN and your tireless efforts over many years. You have the grateful appreciation of many otherwise disenfranchised communities.
GOP attempt to "purge" voters last week and prevent foreclosed home owners from voting in Michigan is WAAAYYY worse than a few people registering Mickey Mouse and Donald Trump by ACORN employees trying to make $8/yr
"Registration" Fraud is WAY different than "Voting" Fraud
ps - to all those that think Obama is a "socialist" and is out to "destroy America" or "know Obama has strong ties to terrorists"... where is your "proof" to back up these claims??? Your only fear is fear itself.
Exactly!! Registration fraud for "Mickey Mouse" and "Dallas Cowboys" who won't show up to vote is NOTHING like actual voter fraud, or GOP voter suppresssion. That's the GOP plan, if you don't have good ideas, just stop the vote.
The folks who write against acorn, generally speaking (and this is stereotyping) are like Chief Justice Rhenquist, political lackeys who suppress minority voting to preserve their privilege. They claim a fear of socialism and chicanery, but really just want to keep their privilege.
Republican Nazi Bastards: give it up. your voter suppression days are over. we know you would prefer it if only white jesus freaks were allowed to vote, but it's not gonna happen.
Nobody is complaining about any qualified voter being able to vote. But ACORN has stepped over the line in many state and has done it multiple times. That's the complaint, and it's a legitimate one. If ACORN wants to register voters, great! But do it legally, and register LEGAL voters...not pets, not dead people, not cartoon characters and don't use park benches as addresses. These things are ridiculous and everyone with a even half a brain should see that!
Nowhere does it state that a citizen requires a residence to practice their Right to Vote.
It is ILLEGAL as a vote registering organization to not turn in filled in registrations. Even if you KNOW that it is bogus. ACORN flagged the bogus ones, so the electoral commission would catch them more easily.
Use the "half a brain" you have to find out what is REALLY happening and to find out the law.
I know people don't like it, but Truth has a liberal bias.
Some people working for ACORN did submit invalid registrations. However, ACORN did exactly what they were required to do under the law in those cases. They flagged the suspicious registration forms so that they could be verified by local election officials. Also, if you are afraid that dead people, pets and cartoon characters are actually going to show up to vote, you may need a reality check.
And even more important since they hired the poor and uneducated, they had forms filled out by "Mickey Mouse" and "Dallas Cowboys" as if someone with those names is going come and vote. Republicans want to make ANYTHING a diversion, yet won't talk about their own voter suppression in Michigan to stop people from foreclosed homes from voting.
There haven't been many reported incidents of intimidation, but the GOP has been working to suppress voter turn out for years. They do this in many ways: fliers posted in Democratic communities reminding people to vote on the wrong day, warning people that if they vote they can be arrested if they have outstanding parking tickets, onerous ID laws that target likely Democratic voters, and widespread voter purges based on (illegal) "voter caging" and frivolous challenges to form matching. Lookitup
"Acorn threatens the very fabric of American Democracy" ~ John McCain
Uneducated extreme right wing GOP diehards have been fighting back negatively against ACORN thinking by registering Micky Mouse and Darth Vader, ACORN is gonna get them out to steal the Election for Obama.
This about face is hypocritical since McCain was full of Support for ACORN just months ago.
the nazis have lawyers running all over the country filing motions to supress, suspend, "cleans" voter rolls. they aren't getting as far with it as they did in '00 and '04 though. not anywhere near.
Acorn has done incredible work over the years, for the disenfranchised. Happy to see this ad defending what should not need defending -- the rights of individuals to organize and stand up for themselves, and their interests.
Hopefully you, and others who have been defamed during this campaign, will be able to reclaim your assaulted reputations.
You've done good work. Thank you for your courage.
Anyone objectively looking at the facts would conclude that Acorn performs a valuable public service and they are the victim of a smear. Acorn is a well-established organization and can survive these false accusations; however, one has to wonder about the motivation. I predict massive voter suppression/fraud by the Repubs on election day, possibly coupled with a terrorist attack just prior. We will learn later the govt knew about the attack in advance but did nothing.
This video is listed as no longer available and all other linked versions I've sought have take-down notices on them. I think "someone" is trying to block your ad. Please re-post it, as I've not seen it yet and want to. Thanks.

So, whas this the guy registered by ACORN as Jive Turkey, Mickey Mouse or Tony Romo?
averageworkinggal 3 years ago 4
Well, if you believe the right-wing noise machine, it was all three.
But the reality is that ACORN's overall rate of "suspicious" cards was 1.5% or about 60K out of 1.3 million, spread out across 70 metro areas. That's fewer than 1K per county, which is a rate lower than applications gathered by state DMV's.
However, I suspect you aren't interested in the facts, but rather in scoring ideological points, so not matter what kinds of facts I put down here are going to be ignored.

Sad sad sad that our tax money goes to finance crap like this when it could be used for socialist programs like spreading the wealth...
McCainReform 3 years ago 2
No taxpayer money is used for ACORN's voter engagement work, so it is unclear what you mean when you say "crap like this", though I'm sure such fine points of fact are really tangential to this entire comment thread, which is more about venting one's point of view than discussing what actually happened.

WHAT? Why are congressmen calling for investigatin and suspension of taxpayer money to acorn and the AHC? MILLIONS are wasted in taxpayer money on these biased groups- money that could be used for something worthwhile...
McCainReform 3 years ago 4

You would think people would be happy that our democracy is getting stronger.
acorncommunity 3 years ago
We aren't scared of new voters we are scared of voters who have registered multiple times and therefor voting multiple times. I'm from MO, which is a major swing state in this election. Voter fraud if highly prevalent and of a GREAT concern to many citizens of my state. To belittle our concern is frankly insulting. You wonder why I don't support your organization? Well you answered it!!! Insulting other is your best deffense to take the spot light of of yourself. How righteous.
smilesalot910 3 years ago

DesertSage01 3 years ago
INvestigations are not convictions. These investigations are into cards and employees, not the organization as a whole. In NC we submitted 28,000 cards, and the are investigating... 4 of them. All of which we flagged first and turned in to them as required by law. With a coversheet noting we thought they were "suspicious". Also that's not voter fruad, it is voter registration fraud. And VR fraud has never been linked to widespread voter fraud. I'm sorry you are so threatend by new voters.
acorncommunity 3 years ago
Not threatened by new voters at all there Acorn, just threatened by Mickey Mouse voting and People from Europe flying into the U.S. to vote, and illegal aliens voting, and New Yorkers driving to Ohio renting a house and voting in Ohio then driving back to N.Y. to vote there too. Keep trying to justify yourself, oh and what about the loans you forced on the Government to make to those that could not afford to pay for houses. No guilt in that either right.
DesertSage01 3 years ago
The only thing ACORN does in any of this list is help people fill out VR applications. If you have problems with the rest of it you should contact the relevant Secretaries of State instead of posting on this little comment board.
But whatever. Knock yourself out.

acorncommunity. HATER
smilesalot910 3 years ago
I'm not in denial. I have access to all the same info the investigators have. It's not the first time ACORN has been under investigation, true. And in every other case it has been vindicated. Ex-ACORN employees, fired by the org., have been brought to justice with ACORN's cooperation in the past.
I challenge your witnessing ACORN staff in the ER. Please present proof. That's not how our canvassers are trained or managed. We have never called anyone racist and condemn hate.
acorncommunity 3 years ago
Exactly how do you propose I present proof? I didn't have a video camera in my pocket. This is just what I witnessed. I was obviously not at the ER to try to catch this individual in the act.
FordTruckMan86 3 years ago
ACORN has members from across the party spectrum. It registers people without regard to party affiliation, unlike the GOP which hired Young Political Majors to do VR and they were indicted for destroying apps from people who registered as Democrats. ACORN has been around for 38 years and it was started to fight for working families on the issues of importance to them. The VR work is to help more people from these backgrounds participate in the system.
acorncommunity 3 years ago
see in that reply alone you have proven what you said is wrong. it should be your policy to never comment on candidates or sway one way or another. only to register people. i mean please. your tv ad that we are commenting on explains it. you are a liberal organization put in place to get liberal voters to vote. yes some conservative voters get through and do vote but still. your commercial attacks mccain in the hope people will watch, come register, and vote obama. bottom line. NOT bi-partisan..
FordTruckMan86 3 years ago
We don't claim to be "bi-partisan". We are "non-partisan" meaning we are not a political party organization. We have a PAC which makes endoresments called ACORN Votes.
We advocate for our members and for working families not for a particular party. We pursue progressive public policy issues, but we were not "put in place to get liberal voters". We have a 38 year history of organizing and fighting for working families and that includes taking on Democrats as well as Republicans.
acorncommunity 3 years ago
BULL CRICKEY, You received over 800,000 dollars in money support from Obama, Non-Partisan my eye. Why can't you people ever just tell the truth once. Why is it so easy for people to just to blantantly lie to one another now a days. Doesn't anyone have any morals in this world anymore. Oh yeah, you don't believe in God who tell us in Galatians what happens to liars. Sorry my bad.
DesertSage01 3 years ago
Facts are inconvenient things sometimes.
acorncommunity 3 years ago
everything your saying is non-sense. it's reworded just like everything else in the liberal media to make it out to be true. your telling me your non-partisan and your "not for a particular party"... what i hate more than anything is people lying to me. the same ad we are commenting on says not to vote for John McCain. While it does not say, "vote Obama!" it is directly implying that. the worst part is not how much people like you lie. it's how much stupid people believe you. I voted already...
FordTruckMan86 3 years ago

And that is exactly what they've done.
caligyrphi 3 years ago
There are paid voter-registration canvassers from all over the political spectrum. There's nothing unethical about it. Voter registration drives are a time-honored effort used by every social cause you could name, including conservative ones.
caligyrphi 3 years ago
And it's simply untrue to say that ACORN was founded to increase Democratic votes. It's been around for decades, with programs ranging from affordable housing, to rebuilding New Orleans, to helping people who can't afford accountants prepare their taxes, to pressing local officials to repair sidewalks. Voter registration is only one of many programs, most of which are totally unrelated to elections. Federal money is not being used to register voters for one party. It just isn't. That's a fact.
caligyrphi 3 years ago
Awesome.
It's so good to see this ad getting the word out!
caligyrphi 3 years ago 2

Don't be jealous that ACORN helped register 450K new voters and 450K people who needed to reregister in order to vote next week. We flagged all the bad cards first, but are required by law to turn them in any way. That's why you hear about it in the first place - because the system works and these bad cards were caught. I'm sorry the conservatives can't do the same thing.
acorncommunity 3 years ago
I'm not jealous, but I am disgusted, disgusted that Acorn gets taxpayer money. Acorn claims to be "nonpartisan" yet publicly endorses Obama. That makes every taxpayer an Obama contributor, and THAT disenfranchises ME.
everysandwich 3 years ago
Actually, ACORN's PAC endorsed Obama, which has completely segregated sources of money. Second, the only taxpayer money ACORN gets is as a sub-contractor on competitive grants awarded based on performance and no money is paid until the work is complete. This was for things like helping families abate lead paint and stay in their homes when facing foreclosure. No taxpayer money goes to anything else, so you aren't paying for anything you don't like. Non-partisan means not a party org. We aren't.
acorncommunity 3 years ago
You're telling me you don't get public money for get-out-the-vote efforts? But that's how Obama amended his $800,000 payment to you after no one bought the "stage lighting" excuse. This spot is an anti-McCain political spot devoid of factual references, and it is paid for by Acorn. That's what your video disclaimer says. Having read Ms. Moncrief's testimony is reported in the WSJ, I have a better understanding of Acorn. But good work on the lead paint abatement. We're all for that, I hope.
everysandwich 3 years ago

So, basically ACORN's all whiny that McCain and Republicans are calling them on all their bogus voter registrations.
I'm surprised I didn't see Mickey Mouse anywhere in this ad. I understand he was intimidated too, when he tried to vote!
ToddonCapeCod 3 years ago
ACORN's rate of spoiled applications (incomplete, bad handwriting, etc) was about 5-6% or about 65,000 cards out of 1.3 million. The rate at which canvassers tried to defraud the organization by filling out fake cards was 1.5% or about 9,500 cards out of 1.3 million. I don't know what that says about "all their bogus" apps, but that's a pretty good rate to me.

But I think that's a losing thought.
acorncommunity 3 years ago

Two examples: working with families in homes with lead paint to abate the poison and working with families faced with foreclosure to help them stay in their homes. That's it.

TheOriginalHamster 3 years ago
And what about the civil rights being stripped away from Joe the Plumber, whom Obama approached FIRST? He;s being investigated by Obamatons!
What about the freedom of speech of WFTV, or the station in Florida that the Obama-Biden team has now said they will no longer grant interviews to because they asked that mental case Biden too many tough questions?
Don't tell me about losing civil liberties, when Team Barack is doing FAR worse than Bush ever dreamed of, and they're not even elected yet!!
ToddonCapeCod 3 years ago
Oh yeah, he's so persecuted he hired a Nashville-based agent to represent him and he was offered a recording contract! Oh and McCain's campaign has never refused interviews before. That's not freedom of speech. That's just not giving an interview. The station can still say whatever they want.
Somehow I don't think team Barack is doing anything that even comes close to suspending habeous corpus, but I'm not lawyer.
Have a nice day. 8-)
acorncommunity 3 years ago
Team Obama told both WFTV and that Philly station, no more interviews for you, for the way you treated Biden. They also threatened WGN of Chicago, when they were going to bring in David Fredosso. End of story.
Sorry, but again, trusting an ACORN supporter with telling the truth about Obama?
I'd sooner believe Charles Manson trying to tell me how to be a law-abiding citizen!
ToddonCapeCod 3 years ago

No matter who is presdident we can come together around those things.
acorncommunity 3 years ago
you never lost habeus corpus. Never.
ToddonCapeCod 3 years ago
So which rights are you going to lose?
Funny, about that habeous corpus thing was how the Bush Admin said it didn't apply to US Citizens if they were accused of terrorism and they went all the way to the supreme court before they lost. Dude who was in prison for 4 years before that decision basically lost that right for that whole time.
Going to be happy that that kind of extremist tendency isn't in office anymore.

Where's my right to view that video, under the First Amendment?
ToddonCapeCod 3 years ago
Umm, the first amendment gives you the right to publish whatever you want, not read whatever you want. So if you can find the tape, you can publish it.
Frankly I have no opinion on this. I just heard about it today. If you think that's what's going to win the election for McCain, then go for it. You can find the LA Times on the internet and call the publisher. Knock yourself out.

Acorn established in 1970
Since then...
6 elections won by GOP
3 elections won by Dems
I know they say that more voters usually helps Dems but Acorn must be registering a lot of right-wing nuts also.
Plus nobody has said anything about voter fraud. That would require a voter. This is about registration forms. Do people show up with fake IDs trying to vote? Of course not..Give me a break sheeple.

Acorn the wonderful group being investigated in about a DOZEN states for voter registration FRAUD!! saltandsavor-you need to use the brain God gave you and see the light!!
SueGeo 3 years ago 4
First, ACORN is not being investigated; canvassers who were fired by ACORN are being investigated. Second, we are confident that all these investigations will show that our systems were the first place that flagged these bad cards; we flagged them first and turned them in with coversheets.
Investigations are just that, investigations. Not convictions. And we will cooperate fully with any prosecution of fired canvassers b/c they defrauded us by trying to get paid for not doing the work.
acorncommunity 3 years ago
I think ACORN is indeed invaluable to all real Americans who want a country that is indeed free to vote as they intend, and believe in the God-given right to do so. You are doing your work well--and that is why Republicans keep trying to silence you. I for one will let everyone know the true, honorable work of ACORN.

Finally, a push back against the racist accusations against ACORN! McCain = Jim Crow and the GOPigs that support voter suppression! There can be no letting up now against these bigots!
HGMMA 3 years ago
Wait, didn't Democrats in the south support Jim Crow laws?
LayZ23 3 years ago 3
This is an excellant point, though I'm sure the commentor meant it as a way to absolve today's GOP from its voter suppression tactics.
Leaving that aside, it is absolutely true that Democrats used voter supression tactics in the Jim Crow South to keep Blacks from voting, just as Republicans in the North used voter registration laws to keep immigrants, Catholics, and urban voters away from the polls.
This is an issue of who has a voice and who doesn't and right now the GOP is at fault.
acorncommunity 3 years ago
WHICH "voter suppression tactics." Your race-baiting ad here merely says McCain is a racist and trying to suppress votes. It doesn't even hint at anything McCain has supposedly done. Why don't you tell us what he's supposedly done. ONE thing he's done to suppress the black vote or ANY votes.
jboze3131 3 years ago
Doesn't have to be McCain doing it personally. He wouldn't be that stupid. It's other Republicans who are trying to suppress the black vote because they know it generally tends democratic and liberal, i.e., anti-McCain/Palin.
philkarn 3 years ago
Yeah. Investigating wide-spread voter registration fraud allegations = suppressing the black vote.
Obviously.
daisyshark 3 years ago
I'm not absolving any tactic to suppress the right for anyone to vote. As a Catholic, the old Democrats in the south didnt like us much either.
I appreciated the work ACORN did after Katrina, I'm upset about the registration fraud.
If anything, the ad isn't non partisan and your organization must be so to continue to be taxpayer funded. I will be writing my congressman and senators (one of which is a Democrat and I'm also voting for) to bring to their attention.
LayZ23 3 years ago
The registration fraud was commited by canvassers against ACORN trying to get paid for work they did not do. The fraud was caught, flagged, and turned over to the proper authorities, as required by law. We want these people brought to justice just like you do.
ACORN is not a tax-exempt organization and it is not "taxpayer funded". It does get some federal grants to help with lead paint abatement and foreclosures. Therefore it can call out politicians by name when they attack us. So we did.
acorncommunity 3 years ago
Don't act like the victim. Don't blame individual canvassers for submitting 400,000 invalid registration forms.
And anyway, don't you think there might be SOME amount of foul play if you hire people and pay them based on how many registrations they get?
And stop playing the race card. Nobody's trying to disenfranchise anyone. This investigation is about fraud, not bigotry.
daisyshark 3 years ago
ACORN pays people by the hour, not the card. There is no incentive to provide bogus cards other than the wish to get paid for doing no work.
The number of fake cards was about 9500, not 400,000. See the breakdown above. That 400K number includes duplicate apps from people who are already registered but weren't sure if they were or not. Those are perfectly legal cards. About 65K cards were incomplete or spoiled. Why are you so scared of these voters that you have to give bad statistics and lie?
acorncommunity 3 years ago
Then how do you defend against the countless testimonies of ACORN employees who said there was one? Or the numerous reports by the Employment Policies Institute who also say there was one?
I've yet to see any actual proof to the contrary.
daisyshark 3 years ago
We have timesheets, staff policies, training manuals, and signed forms from our program. The investigators see all this. It helps them convict the people defrauding ACORN and commiting felonies against the system. It is part of how we cooperate with the investigations. The EPI is simply not credible as a source. They are a funded by the restaurant industry and they exist to stop living wage and minimum wage laws. Their charges are scurrilous and not worth responding to.
acorncommunity 3 years ago
And as I said before, THIS IS ABOUT FRAUD. NOT BIGOTRY. I'm not "scared of voters." Everyone has the right to vote, and I absolutely support that. However, when an organization commits widespread FRAUD--enough to warrant a multi-state FBI investigation, I DO have a problem with that.
daisyshark 3 years ago
We have not been contacted by the FBI so we can't comment on whether there is or is not an FBI investigation. Each investigation you mention is into actions by a handful of canvassers, not ACORN itself and in many cases involves a handful of cards. For example, in NC, we submitted 28,000 cards and they investigated 4 of them. We're talking about about 9500 cards out of 1.3 million. That's simply not widespread fraud.
acorncommunity 3 years ago
Well done, ACORN. It is no surprise to me that elements of the Republican Party are willing to suppress the votes of people of color and young people to remain in power. What is disturbing is the degree that they have found willing institutions to go along (courts, county election boards, etc.) This election will go down in history as the largest, systematic voter disenfranchisement since the 1950s. Keep on speaking truth to power, ACORN.

But it's fine that ACORN cheats, so long as it's for the right candidate.
mah29732 3 years ago
ACORN doesn't cheat. they turn in all the names of registered voters as they are required to do by law. they go over the list first and flag any names that don't seem right. stop drinking the RNC kool aid and actually read up on this information
monkeyinakilt 3 years ago
Really who is drinking something. They turn in a truckload full of registrations on the last day and more than half are faulty. The boards have to spend lots of taxpayer dollars going over them even if ACORN happens to flag a few of them hoping of course that it causes chaos and maybe some will get though or someone can complain that theirs was removed. Way to many reasons for this farce. REGISTAR, SHOW ID THEN VOTE YOU DONT NEED ACORN FOR THAT.
gigglebox189 3 years ago
Actually ACORN turns in its registrations twice a week for the duration of the drive, expressly to avoid a last minute surge. We never hold a card more than 7 days even during huge weeks. We don't flag "a few" we flag all and divide them into 3 piles, to help officials with their difficult jobs. There may have been a spike at the end, like any deadline, (just look at PO's on Tax Day), but that spike didn't come from us.

1949gal 3 years ago
Nowhere does it state that a citizen requires a residence to practice their Right to Vote.
It is ILLEGAL as a vote registering organization to not turn in filled in registrations. Even if you KNOW that it is bogus. ACORN flagged the bogus ones, so the electoral commission would catch them more easily.
Use the "half a brain" you have to find out what is REALLY happening and to find out the law.
I know people don't like it, but Truth has a liberal bias.
Dabipster 3 years ago 3
Some people working for ACORN did submit invalid registrations. However, ACORN did exactly what they were required to do under the law in those cases. They flagged the suspicious registration forms so that they could be verified by local election officials. Also, if you are afraid that dead people, pets and cartoon characters are actually going to show up to vote, you may need a reality check.
95topaz 3 years ago 2
But Acorn was not the perpetrator, it was employees who frauded acorn. Legally, they have to submit any registration form that is turned into them.
Dhalsim25 3 years ago
And even more important since they hired the poor and uneducated, they had forms filled out by "Mickey Mouse" and "Dallas Cowboys" as if someone with those names is going come and vote. Republicans want to make ANYTHING a diversion, yet won't talk about their own voter suppression in Michigan to stop people from foreclosed homes from voting.

SoCalBrowns 3 years ago 4
There haven't been many reported incidents of intimidation, but the GOP has been working to suppress voter turn out for years. They do this in many ways: fliers posted in Democratic communities reminding people to vote on the wrong day, warning people that if they vote they can be arrested if they have outstanding parking tickets, onerous ID laws that target likely Democratic voters, and widespread voter purges based on (illegal) "voter caging" and frivolous challenges to form matching. Lookitup
