  • thats sir psycho sexy (not exactly but uses the same rythm and groove)

  • i sense a bit of apache rose peacock in this :D

  • Amazing again David, sounds like the groove from sir psycho lol!

  • that is really a cool warm up and groove/lesson u got there and your tone on that bass is just amazing!

  • do you mute the strings with the unused part of your right hand?

ill do it like that, but i dunno if its wrong or right :/

  • dam it you make it look to easy!! grr

  • sounds a lot like sir psycho sexy from the BSSM album

  • Nice, very easy to just watch and learn!

  • Nice, very easy to just watch and learn!:)

  • David, How would you compare the flea slap technique (thumb pointing downward) with the Larry Graham slap technique (thumb parallel to the strings)? Which technique should I learn first? thanks!

  • Perfect for teaching!

  • I can slap the A string very easy, but how higher the string how more problems I get with getting sound out of my slap..... anyone?

  • this song sound like sir psycho sexy of rhcp..now i think that david rules all your bass covers are amazing::XD

  • Salut,

  • rhcp

  • i have played bass for a lot of years but i dont know how to pop and slap. i wish i did. i tried it a few times but just havent gotten the hang of it yet.

  • dude! wich strings do you use?

  • Great lesson, you can see techincues clearly thanks to ur ZOOMED pictures :D

    Popping lesson would be awsome!

  • MORE!

  • thanks!

  • Duuuuuude. ive been thinking about learning bass for a while now, now i got enough money, can you reccomend any good starter basses and amps? ty =)

  • get a fleabass they are quite cheap and david has one (the green one) and as for amps maybe a gallien kruger :)

  • you can get an epiphone thunderbird for 300 and all the acoustic amps are great (acoustuc the company) and there cheap

  • that's what i've been hearing, my next amp might be an Acoustic... Anyone curious about it should just visit a local Guitar Center, I know most that I've been to have had them in-store, it's great to try them out. The sound is amazing.

  • Do you get Bass guitars by the sponsor ?

  • ahah )

I want to ask the same question )

  • Red hot Bass line ! ;)

  • ya dude u inspire me too dude how dose the offspring song go your gonna go far kid :D

  • Is that Sir Psycho Sexy? anyway, after watchin you play everytime, makes me want to run to my bass and work on improving

    thanks for the inspiration =)

  • thankyou Davidsinrocks : )

  • Punaise, je pige rien !!! Tu tapes comment ??

  • bien

  • Great lesson ! :)

I love all your work! Could I ask you, where do you buy those stickers ? Love your art work on this bass. Bye

  • its psuedo-psycho sexy

  • If only I knew how to read tabs.

  • it's easy! will take you less than 1 minute to learn

  • How can't u read tabs?

  • Each horizontal line is a bass string with the top line being G and bottom line E. Numbers represent frets. For the musically uneducated =]

  • THank you for the positive reinforcement. I actually found a good source on the internet to find out how read them. But, a lot of tabs online aren't exactly accurate and there's still a few things I don't understand. I just try to make the rhythm in the song with the tabs.

  • Rhythm is the only real fallacy of tab. If you can read sheet music, I would recommend using Guitar Pro. It's not too hard to find a free version and almost everything written for Guitar Pro is quite accurate. Cheers.

  • Cool man!

I am new on bass and looking forward your 2nd lesson

  • @NikolaiUA

making funky basslines isnt something somebody can teach the only way to do them is felling the music

  • Sir Psycho Seinfeld XD

  • It's a good thing you decided to make some lessons. But it would be great if you'd also make lessons on creating some great funky basslines like those you do. I think people will get the technique with time, but making grooves is no ease.

  • Yeah, Sir Psycho sexy, that's what my first thought was too :)

  • x=muted note 0=open

  • Comment removed

  • whats the X mean?

    doesnt 0 mean open?

  • bass reminds me of seinfeld too.

  • Nice lesson it helped me alot, make more lessons please :)

  • Awsome Lookin Bass

  • how does he do that i can on only hit the e string

  • ca me fai pensé a sir psycho sexy :D

  • Moi aussi, il le ressemble beacoup

    Merci David!

  • Hi David, beginning bass-player here. One question: The extra muted note you play after the first X in the second loop. It's not in the tabs; Do you play that on the D string? Or isn't that really important as long as you hear a muted note?

Nice short lesson btw, very helpful! Merci.

  • Thanks BroOo!!!!

    you are my heroe!!

Nice job with Deep kick!!! so F**** great :D

    salutations from mexico ;)

  • Thanks

  • Is that a Musicman or an OLP?

  • Musicman

  • hey david please answer... i play the bass myself.. :D and i now tabs but the 'X' i've never seen it? so what is it ? i tried to figure out the hands is it a G# ? well you're awesome anyway thx mate ! :D

  • i think the x is when you just hit the string while muting it, without pressing down on any frets.

  • yep it's called dead note

  • Yeah that's it, thanks guys ;)

  • dude no its supposed to be a muted note

  • the X means to play a muted note. good luck!

  • isn't it just a muted note? ( at MYNNEZ)

  • Dude keep the lessons coming.... if you break down some of your covers that would be the bomb....

  • Nice lesson :D Keep it up. I'd love to see some more adavnced slap lessons.

  • love that new artwork on your musicman.

    how did you do it?

  • what amp do you use)¡¿!¡¿

  • I'm not using any amp there..

But when I do I use my cheap Gallien Krueger Backline 600.

  • But i saw you once witq HUGEEE amp behind you.. wasnt it yours?

and by the way(awesome song), awesome groove, its catchy and melodic i think hh..

and i saw your last cover Chump sucker

damn dude you have gotten even better ! great cover!

Can you more of those videos? like once twice a week? pleaseee!

    I mean the lessons..

I know how to slap and that but...

the groove is awesome, it will be great to hear and learn some more of your creations :D hhh

  • Yeah, it's my Gallien Krueger Backline rig ^^

I'll try to make more of these videos!

    See you :)

  • It is FREAKING HUGE how can you say its cheap? XD

  • the head cost about 300 US dollars so its not the most expensive in the world but his rig is a 1x15 and a 4x10 cabinet so it is pretty big

  • Are you learned from someone learning to play the bass guitar?:)

  • niice man. make more of these

  • what distorcion pedal did you use?

  • thanks alot david, i love this bass line [0:30]

    Bonne continuation

    ++

  • Dude cool lesson. I don't usualy ask about guitars or anything but is that like a customized music man guitar?

  • It's a MusicMan Stingray from 1993 which I customized ^^ Originally it had a natural finish.

  • Well it looks great man but I don't know how you get the money for all these nice bass's haha. By the way, great playing man!

  • I work during my holidays... it's a kind of sacrifice but.. that's worth it ;)

  • Oh well damn. That's cool. And while im talking to you never be shy to do some sweet Grateful Dead bass covers!!

  • yeah, I've always been curious, was the bass repainted or are those stickers or what? I can't tell

  • Stickers for the win! :p

  • you must have the patience of a saint

  • Thats a lot of stickers

  • Awesome lesson, do more of these but more complex.

  • Bah de rien ^^

Ecoute j'ai fait un cover de Knock Me Down récemment, mais ça reste du gros classique, puis bon tu la joues largement mieux, y a encore du boulot pour moi ! :p

    Big merci!! ;)

  • nice vid :)

    very good for beginners

  • can someone give me advice on how to deal with dead string notes? i dont know how to play it on the bass.

  • Lay your fretting hand on top of the string, but don't press it down, just let it rest on top of the string, then hit the string.

  • sounds like Sir Phsyco Sexy xD nice!!

  • great lesson. You're completely right popping technique is way easier , once you got your slap. Salute Mon Ami 5/5 !

  • hey how you doing david long time that you dont put up a video are you going to post you guys playing at schoolwave 09

    great lesson

    5 stars

  • hello!

we will put the schoolwave videos as soon as we receive some! :)

    see you !

  • Nice work...I hear a little Sir Psycho Sexy in that riff you made!

  • that song rocks

  • i wish i knew you DX, i can play slap and stuff but watching you makes my jaw drop

  • ty.

  • Your fucking amazing man but im jelous of all your basses :(

  • Hey David, why do you make just a few videos in past time ?

i am waiting for another great cover by you ;)

    Peace

    Rol4ndinho

  • Don't be so impatient man, I'm not a machine yet! :(

But I promise I'll make a cover as soon as possible ! ;)

  • great funk!

  • such a nice sound on that bass man

  • This is a really cool thing of you to do.

  • Your bass looks kewl

  • Vraiment sympa de ta part! ^^

  • DAMN. What happened to the wood :0 That looks awesome.

  • Hey David! I agree with the other guy who was talking about a double thumping video. I can slap well enough, and I really want to get into double thumping. If you get a little free time maybe you could throw down a bass lesson on double thumping.

  • It reminds me of Sir psycho sexy, only slapped :P

  • Very cool video David! I can slap pretty confidently, but there's no such thing as too much practice. Plus, that is one very solid riff.

You said that 'Ray is your only? Did you shrink your collection?

And, if you made a video double thumping that would be awesome! I was working on that a while back but sort of abandoned it. I need motivation! :D

  • Hey!

I only have got one MusicMan Stingray, I've got more basses but only one Stingray, that's what I mean ^^

And I'll see if I can come up with something cool with double thumbing stuff :)

  • wow u should really make some more lessons, this is really good.

  • Awesome, david

I´m really freaked out bout your vids, I a<lways am XDDD

  • wow david this is a very good exercise... i like how you now show your right and left hand it is very helpful..

  • Nice, another Stingray where do you get the money from!!!

  • It's not another Stingray, it's my only one MM Stingray ^^

  • Hey David. All of your vids are great. I have a question. I am a bassist, and I use a student model squier jazz bass. I want to upgrade, but dont know what I should use. In my band we play indie, grunge, and a little funk. I really want a better bass, but dont know what i should get, and if you can, keep the price range low. please respond, and thanks in advance.

  • Hey man! I suggest you maybe a G&L Tribute bass or an Ibanez ATK300, they're pretty good for their prices ;)

  • Ah. I'll see if I can scoop the cash up. Haha. My dad says when I can play 20 songs, he might get me an actual fender or gibson. I only know like 12 songs, and have only wrote like 3 with my band. 5 to go. lol. thanks David.

  • nice. really simple riff. gives me ideas for some jamming time with my band

  • could you make some double thumb lessons too? :D (if you know, of course)

  • hey!

yeah maybe I'll make one, but I'm not a master at double thumbing so it won't be some over complicated riffs ^^

  • Even though it isnt a long video, its still good to see some new stuff from you^^

Awesome that you did one of these dude!

I hope this helps people struggling with the slap technique^^

  • What bass are you using?

  • I will be using this 0..0

  • Nice lesson!
