  • he would have been offside

  • I remember that the referee discussed it with the linesman, and it stood because Dublin's momentum had took him past the goal, and he hadn't attempted to gain from this intentionally.

  • solsjaker did this for united once and it was disallowed. we drew 1-1 v boro cos of this

  • Um ..... Offside, no?

  • Er... you are not offside if the ball is passed to you by an opposition player.

  • Really!? You learn something new everyday. And here's me thinking I understood the offside rule ...

  • @NuclearInternet yeah but before he got it he was foffside and anyway the goaly didnt kick it

  • @littlerocket215

No the scorer was never offside, even from the preceding play where the goal keeper claimed the ball, he was onside then. The goalkeeper the rolled out the ball (that's a pass the keeper doesn't need to kick it), he nabbed the ball and scored, he wasn't off-side.

You are only offside if the ball is passed to you (or towards you) by one of your own team-mates when you are in an 'offside position'. Simply being in an 'offside position' does not constitute an offside offence.

  • Goalkeeper was Shay Given of Newcastle.
