  • Where did you get that aluminum? AAND What is this song?

    Thank you

  • You saved this computer life! Thank you so much! Make more mods like this

  • @nokiaovi1 thank you :D

  • Do you think that this will work on most of the models of the acer aspire 1? Because I got the d255 and my temps raising like mad, and the only difference i noticed between them all is that the d255 is a bit thinner, but it uses the same heatsink.

  • @scorpinock2

    sure it shoud work....

if you can use the fins of an old heatsink.. that would work much better

  • @ramiretz thx man :D

  • 0:38 zinc or aluminum ?

  • @kng6666

    Aluminium :)

  • Wait I am confused. Did your temp say 44C after the mod? Mine I am using right now runs 39C without touching it.

  • Ah dude thanks for the idea!!!! I was upgrading the ram on mine when i see this, i was straight on to it - I've also done the graphics chip aswell with a plate that joins it to the back of the keyboard to create a huge heat sink - it's worked out great man I will make a video with the pics soon, thanks again :] - Andy

  • acer notebooks leben länger mit calgooon.

  • heat sinks

  • whered u get the AA1 fan contorl????

  • Wow this is really sad nobody wants to help me..

  • @jgkeys1995 Some thin metal you can easily bend. You can get a small sheet of copper or steel at your local hardware store (home depot) if you don't have any scrap laying around (metal must be bare!). Cut the metal, bend it. Then you put the THERMAL COMPOUND (like Arctic Silver, can be bought at radio shack or best buy) between the bent piece of metal and the cooler. Be CAREFUL taking the laptop apart, but give it a try - don't be like an Obama voter waiting for someone else to lead you. :-)

  • @NorskeDivision dude bless your soul im building a super aspire one and needed help with that bless you sir u rock!

  • Can someone tell me all the materials used in this video where i can purchase them and how to install it? Please im desperate!!

  • Hi.. I installed your mod! it looks wonderful btw and from what I hear it works really well. I have an Acer Aspire One D150, which is a bit different but it works the same. I took apart the computer, installed the aluminium parts and then put it back together, but now I have a problem. when I press the power button nothing happens, nothing at all. Not even the fan turns on, it is as if the power button was disconnected. I reopened the computer and checked if I had forgotten some cable, but no.

  • my acer aspire one d250 goes all the way to 102 degrees celsius even after i put new artic silver 5 thermal compound, why?

  • lol, nice. Are you using Vister? because i've never had any heat issues with mine. Of course after P.O.S. windows xp crashed, i now run Ubuntu and Mac OS X Leopard.

  • wow a heat sink

  • Sorry Wrong Video on the comment... Sorry..

  • спасибо,попробую.

  • LoL mit ner calgon verpackung xDDDD

    aber geiler mod =)

  • *gggg*

    weil calgon Rulez extrem *gggg*

    danke ;)

  • LoL

na ich hab sowas auch mal gemacht nur mit ner kühl folie die man in den termoskannen findet und nem kühlgel. war sehr aufwändig nur jetzt hab ich 40% meinem temp gesenk.

    haste noch andere mods??

    peace benny

  • cool story bro

  • cool but how can i see the temps is there like a menu somewhere

  • use the software AAO control !!

  • @ramiretz Hey can u tell me what material is used and where to buy it?

  • It's acting as a heatsink you dumb fuck. Not some kind of weird contraption that guides air. How profoundly stupid can you be? In fact, I'm going to go and improve his idea and build one myself.

  • You don't seem like a nice or happy person.

    Why is that?

Do you alienate people or something?

I see how it would act like a heat sink, though. More metal places directly in the flow of air would help reduce temperatures even more... Although given that the air flow from the fan is the same at max as it would be before, it would likely increase temperatures, but then again I guess not.

It makes sense in my head.

    I'm just exploring the possibilities.

  • Am I The only one who has AOA150

  • @Joshua277456 nope, i do

  • wow, thats cool, didnt think it would make such a diffrence :o

  • how much stuff (programs, movies e.c.t) do you have on your AA1.

Can it only take soo much?

How much of you HDD have you filled?

will lots of stuff make it slower?

  • i didnt use it any longer, i give it my mom

she uses the aao to surf the web and mails and office. . . .

the hdd is 160gb, you can make it full . . . no prob it wont become slower.

this phenomen is only on SSD versions,,, if you make a ssd fuller than 80% it slows down

and by the way, the ssd version of the aao is a joke, the zif ssd is tooooo so slow!!!!

for windows -> HDD version (or aftermarket SSD)

  • @ramiretz I have the lame 8gig ssd version of the Aspire one but using FlashFire speeds up the SSD write speed phenomenally.

  • Is it possible to install the nvidia ion on the acer aspire one

  • hehe

no i dont think so ;)

  • In my opinion, I think windows 7 runs better on this laptop if you have 2 gb of ram

  • right, but in that case...

the AAO110/150 have 512 mb soldered onboard and 1 dimm slot, so you can ony upgrade to 1,5gb . 2gb is not possible, if you put in the dimm slot a 2gb module the AAO will not start, because the intel chipset can only adree 2gb of ram maximum !!!!

so theres only 1,5gb maximum ram in the AAO

  • Win7 runs perfect on most of the Atom Netbooks !!!

  • running vista uses like 75% of the ram and makes it SLOW AND HOT

  • It doesnt run to hot like 40-50c i put some as5 on the chips and it runs a bit cooler but it does lack a gd heatsink, i put a 60gb ipog hd in mine works great.

  • What did you do? O.o

  • im sure temp droped 10 degrees, but the little one was still open, im an engineer and i know the benefits of the wings, but i have another question: how many was the one turned on since the temp dropped?

  • i runed it without the heatfins 15min

and after install again for 15min

  • I don't know if anybody knows but on the Acer Aspire One Service Guide .pdf that you can find on google, the new thermal unit seems to be made by copper, so i think that would be very useful to buy one of these to replace the actual one, but i was unable to find anywhere.

    waiting for your suggestions.

  • So does the AAO usually get pretty hot?

  • Would a tin can (like a coke can) have the right material for this mod?

  • i used this material- like a coke can ;)

  • good idea

  • A tip for everyone... Arctic Silver does make 2-part thermal epoxy which works really well for things like this...

Thank you for the video! I will have to do this when I get one.

  • did i see it right... superglue? he used superglue to glue the fins to the heatsing? is superglue a good thermal conductor?

also, the material he used to make the fins... its aluminum, right? like a soda can aluminum?

  • Yes superglue on the edges, and arcticsilver5 on more tha 85% of the aluminium space

  • I tried your modification, works great for now, the fan removes the heat for very short time. It starts only for few seconds, then goes in idle for a minute during internet surfing. When watching movies fancontrol reports 55 Core temp and everest gives 72-73 which is 8 degrees lower than before. Your modification works perfect. There is no additional noises because of fins.

  • i´m happy that my mod helped a bit

    thanks for your report !!!

    have a nice day

  • Nice job buddy. I have bat experience with my AOA 150 it reach 75-80 degrees centigrades in normal condition. During a game it can reach almost 90 which is not good for stable work of the system. I'll try your modification.

  • hy

thanks thanks, wow 90 degree ?? thats really hoooootttt

i would be happy when you post if it worked good, or you make a video or something ans upload it :-)

  • Of course. I only need to collect some materials.

  • I have some little VGA memory heat sink laying around here that should do the job. :)

    They are cheap to ebay.

  • good idea with the vga or memory heatsinks.

i tryed my solution because it costs nothing only a few minutes of work :-)

with a really good heatsink there must be much better results

  • Purchase Some Heatsinks from the net for memory. They are tiny and true with more surface area. Video card sinks will also work and come with the correct glue for metals.

  • I dont think that did that much. I replaced the thermal pad on the CPU with some AS5 and it dropped it from 50°C to 25-30°c

  • very nice

  • Nice job!, whats the name of the saong? thanx in advance

  • sorry i dont know it anymore, but its a song from out of the youtube music library !!

  • you do realize that the reason it was cooler is because you dont have the complete case on during the test! it will obviously be cooler when it has all that extra cooling surface area and is not contained in a plastic case

  • i tested the temp with to notebook reassembled !

  • sorry man, i just thought because it kind of seemed like that on the video:) in that case, nice mod :)

  • no prob ;-)

it realy worked fine for me

  • Dropped by 10 Degrees it's not true.

Check the "Heatsink mod! Must read it if you use Fan control!" thread on the aspireoneuser forum!

  • what was the plate cut from. it looks like a tin box but i think it said cooling something on it

  • hy

right its from a calgoon metal box ;)

(simply take a metallbox from moms kitchen for it ;)

  • OK then what where the measurements(the digital ruler was off in the pikes)

  • i postet it already on the aspireoneuser forum but they deleted it because of the link to youtube :-(

    fins are

    lenght : 3cm

    hight : 1cm (0,5cm then 90 degree and again 0,5cm)

used ac5 paste and superglue on the edges to fix it

    greetz

  • Nice work, wonder what this means for over clocking potential

  • is that a 2,5" hd? it fits? witch adapter is needed to connect it?

  • its a aspireone 150XP , the hdd (120GB) is already installed on this one, no mod.

  • So you basically made some extra "heat-fins" to add into the machine?

  • yes :D

  • You should write up a quick PDF on the install and sell the strips on ebay. I'd buy it :)

  • *ggg*

    thanks for the roses

its easy to do :-) i did that in night because it was boring and i had nothing to do :-) the best solution would be if you take cooper strips and more than 5 pieces, but i didnt have a cooper platte at home

  • Even better, grab an old cooler out of a donor PC - even a 133 would do, and slice it down to fit.
