  • Great tutorial! I'm trying to do this on rev i pcb which apparently is true bypass and comes already with a fase inductor without modification. My problem is that rev i pcb is a bit different from the one that is shown on the video and the switch isn't wired the same way as the one that is added on the true bypass tutorial (even though it has 6 pins). Does anyone know how to add a led to a cry baby with rev i pcb?

  • Wow! Your videos are so clear and well done! Bravo!

  • Questo video è veramente ottimo.. ho fatto la mia modifica senza problemi!! THANKS!!!

  • can you show how to do this mod and make te pedal true bypass?

  • @kramerfrank5150 I'd say this is true bypass since it's using the 3pdt switch, but then again, I don't know much about electronics...

  • What kind of wire is this?

  • Figured this one out. Where people seem to be getting stuck is the position of the Switch and the soldering., I creatd a CORRECT diagram using StinkFoot's True Bypass and LED combined. Couldn't find that on the net anywhere so here it is. This DOES work toddmarx.com/mods/GCB95_TB-LED_Wiring_Correct.pdf

  • Thanks for this. Totally pimped out my Wah with a bumch of mods, and this was the last mod.

  • What watt is your resistor?

  • of course you have to cut the cutter leads between the cap and the jack socket.

  • The GREEN wire is the CLEAN INPUT from the jack socket. It runs through the pcb and wiring connect plug! The BLACK wire is the FX INPUT! It goes to the buffered input stage.

  • 20 minutes work, true bypass and led fitted and working, even by a ham-fisted solderer like me - thanks for such a clear tutorial.

  • *excellent* video!

  • and what can i do if i only want to install the led??

  • Hey... I have a cuestion 4 you, it is about the wiring conection to add a led and to make true bypass. Do I have to make the wiring conection like you o like the page that you mention? (stink food or something like that) please I´ll be glad to see your answer soon. Bless YOu!

  • Why is your switch wiring completely different from Stinkfoot, the basis for your mod?

  • Hey Cappi666, alongside a whipple mod (inductor) I put in, your wiring with 3pdt switch doesn't work. Am I being too ambitious?

  • I don't like the placement ot the led. why not drill a hole?

  • Dude!! Thank you so much!!! Now I know when my Wah pedal is on and off. God Bless you! : )

  • How much did all the parts to mod your pedal sot you?

  • Now, I'm kind of confused cause when you show the position where you hook up all the wires at first the holes of the switch "lugs" are vertical and when you are soldering they are horizontal. Hopefully you can clear that for me if you can Cappi!!!!!! Thanks for the vid BTW!!!!!!!!

  • i think you mightve burned the pcb 2:37

  • where i can buy that pedal?

  • remove this from the pedaw

  • What track is it?

    thanks

  • Ok, have all materials for 3PDT true bypass & LED. I am going to start with KEEPING the Rev. "India" buffer and go from there (I want MY OWN SOUND, not clones!) My local electronics store only had 5mm BLUE LEDs (they had Pink :-O) and I bought 560-ohm resistors to check just how "bright" I can get the LED under the pedal. I had to order my 3PDT switch from Area 51 online ... about $10 so no big deal. I am not sure I have equipment to make a video but will post my results, when finished. [I am e

  • Hi, Cappi!

I've tried to solder LED like You did, but it doesn't go, it doesn't blow. ;/

Is there any chance to solder it different way?

BTW: I love your voice and accent. Kinda reminds me Ghost from MW2 ;D

  • Thanks, I've been whanting to do this for a why now.

  • he puts his distortion before his wah wow sounds good

  • @kurdth1 the distortion pedal is after the wah

  • I would pay this guy to narrate significant events in my life....

  • @Betoix obvusly you have never been english ...its awsome but i want a american to narrate my life like scrubs...lol

  • this is ma kinda porn ;)

  • how muhc are the parts?

  • good work bro!

  • how do you knwo what is the top of the 3dpt switch?

  • Will this mod automatically give the pedal a true bypass too?

  • jop.

  • Just to clarify this the black wire goes to the left back pole and the green goes the center left pole

  • Thanks, I wouldn't have even attempted this mod if you hadn't made this tutorial. Excellant. All working fine. Only bit i found confusing was the black n green wire thing (as i couldn't work out why you'd soldered them to the place you originally put them) but swapped them over and that done the trick. Can't thank you enough. cheers

  • I too find that a bit confusing, I'm planning to do this mod soon to my ZW-45.

So really if i scratch the circuit, and connect the clean input signal wire (from the first video) then follow the stuff in this video it should be grand, and don't need to worry about switching wires as it's a different switch from the first video?

    Thanks

  • Hi there! Great tutorial... problem is, I've tried it and am not getting any sound out of the pedal now. If I sent images of the Mod I've done, can you take a look?

I'm almost thinking that the switch is in upside down... is there an up and down to the switch and if so, how do you find that out?

    Thanks!

  • Make sure you don't have any accidental connections with the wires and such.

  • Ok, thanks... I'll check that.

  • Oh, and for the record, would you do a tutorial for converting boss pedals to true bypass?

  • Once again, nice job on the tutorial!!

  • I just finished mine today. Works great, thanks for the video.

  • Sweet Mate, very nice work, from what I have seen this platform with the switch moves to other pedals. However obviously the challenge is finding out, what places have the signals. Thank you very much!!!!

  • i might have missed it. but did u ever explain why u chose the 3mm over anything else?

  • @28monkeyking28 because it fits into the hole on the side of the wah pedal.

  • so ultimately it doesn't matter? all i can find are 5mm LED at my local shop place. and I ask them. they're no help.

  • @28monkeyking28

you'll need to drill a hole in the pedal with a hss drill bit that is wide enough to fit a 5mm LED holder/grommett thing

  • Did the mod today looks awesome with the blue light I'm going to do my crybaby classic tomorrow do you know off hand if there are any differences on the circuit board? or is it just the same the thing with the fasel and a dpdt already installed?

  • They cost virtually nothing like 4 or 5 bucks, but getting them is the trick you will probably have to order it unless you get lucky and can find one at radioshack...

  • hey, how much does a 3PDT cost and would i buy it at any music store,

    Thanks

  • Did you cut the track in the back of the PCB and switch the black and green wires round as mentioned in the info box thing?

  • Yes I did cut the track, but I really didn't understand what you meant with "switch the black and green wires round"?

  • You switch the added clean input wire that you added to the PCB with the green wire in the pedal on the switch. So basically, where you have soldered these two wires on the switch, unsolder them, switch them round and resolder

  • Comment removed

  • Thanks that helped me out, but now I realized another problem, that the led goes on in bypass mode after a while, otherwise the led works fine, do you have any ideas what may cause the problem here?

  • you again, may have to witch round the wires where the led are wired to the switch round. see if that helps

  • Hi great video, stupid question, what voltage LED should you use, does it have to be 9 volt or can i use a 12 volt for instance,

    Cheers

  • great video - I just picked up a cry baby and will carry out these mods.

Is the wah wah pedal still ok since posting the vid? Does the battery last as long as before or does the LED suck much power?

Shame to say that your web link at the end doesn't work??

  • Yes, my pedal is still working very well indeed.

I would presume the LED would sap a little more power than without one, but if you use an alkaline 9v rather than a cheap zinc chloride, you should be ok. I wouldn't be able to tell you the difference in duration before or after the mod as I've used a Dunlop DC brick the whole time.

  • hey mate

    thanks for the awesome vid

did this today with my crybaby

only thing i would recommend is using a 510ohm Resistor for the LED if u want it brighter

i tried a 2k one and because i planned on putting the light under the treadle it was barely noticeable. however if your LED is on the exterior, 2k is fine

    thanks again mate!

  • its cool but it seams like way too much work for a little pathtic light

  • yeah great instructions, i have all the parts, but which way up does the switch go? does the printing on the side of the switch go at the top end of the pedal or does it not matter etc

    cheers

  • it doesn't really matter which side

  • Great instructions British dude! My Crybaby is now living large. Thanks.

  • can i use a 2.2k resistor. Or, does it have to be 2k?

  • depends on how bright you want the LED to be

  • but yes, you can

  • this guy got to most annoying voice.. "resistor" omg i was gunna die

  • nevermind i got it! great clean mod!!!. do you have any video's on making a W$ Whammy pedal into true bypass with these techniques?

  • Is it possible to run it as true bypass but now wiring up an LED yet? Is the switch part cheap. Im thinking about doing the true bypass first then adding an LED when i have time to buy it. Would it work if i don't hope up an LED to a 3PDT switch?

  • It is a bit too bright for me. If i wanted to go for about half the brightness, would i go for a 4K resistor? (i'm not an electrician, but this just seems logical!)

  • yeah. 4.7k is pretty common and works well

  • any ideas on modding a morley classic wah???.....interesting vid man.

  • i just want to put an led on my wah, how do i do that

  • Should the negative leg of the LED not be attached to the center lug on the right of the switch instead of the resistor as you connected the top right hand lug to ground?

  • Sorry man:

The green go on top left (1)

    The purple on center (5)

The blue go on top center (2)

The wire from PCB go to center-left (4)

Jumper between bottom center & bottom left (7 & 8)

Positive wire from PCB resistor to anod of the led

Negative wire from cathod of the led to a side of resistor and other side of the same resistor solder on center right (6).

    IS ALL RIGHT ?

And the other negative wire that start from the other right/resistor on PCB ? Where it go ? On top right (3) ???

  • man i got a problem.

didn't very understand what you did from 2.28 to 2.50,now the LED won't work and when i activate the crybaby it makes a "POP" and doesn't work, and when activated it's as if ampli is OFF.

    any help?

  • ok man now i got it.

    just some technical question.

    resistor watt? 1/4?

    LED brightness?

and another question... when i got to power supply to the LED i got to take negative resistor wire to the switch and the other to the LED or viceversa?

thanks for the help but i didn't understand all the speech :D

  • LED brightness will be determined by what resistor you choose as it will limit current going through it. They also don't have positive or negative legs, so you can solder them on which ever way you want to :)

  • no the thing i didn't understand... 1 of black wires starting from a resistance goes directly on the swith, an other goes with the resistence, right?

is there difference on which of 2 resistence i link directly to the switch?

and resistance 2k ohm 1/4 watt is good or i need higher w?

  • Man i have a little different layout.

I see at the beginning you have a switch with 6 "ways", with blue, purple, black and green wires in it.

In my dunlop crybaby i have a 3 ways switch, with purple and blue on right and green in left. My black wire goes from the potentiometer to the 8 ways pin.. what should i do?

  • Did you watch 'Part 1' & 'Part 2?'

  • what did you light up? you used lighter. the black thingy..

  • Heatshrink. It shrinks when you apply heat to it. You buy it from shops who sell electronic componant parts.

  • Thanks for this!

Performed this mod on my mates crybaby and then on my own budda bud-wah. The Bud-wah PCB is harder to 'hack into' than the crybaby but the true bypass is aready done fo you which makes things easier.

  • A real basic one. 30watts

  • Wow chris.. if only all the 'how to videos' were made like this we wouldn't have any problems!!

great vid, even though i clicked you vid by accident!

    5* :)

    keep it up mate

  • what is playing on the background please? very helpful mate ill attempt to do it, I'm not skilled with a soldering iron , thats my main concern.

  • A song I wrote.

You'll be fine with soldering, I'm not very good either

  • You've made a really clear and user friendly video here Chris - is this just for interest's sake? Because I hope if you do electronics at school you're going to get some kind of credit for this :-)

Cheers anyway - getting an LED tomorrow, wired in the 3PDT switch already. I decided to drill a hole in the back wall of the base (by your heel) rather than use the pre-drilled one.

  • Hey i have a question.. i have a boss v-wah and it has the wah tone but the actual pedal wah doesnt work.. how do i troubleshoot?

  • Hi guys, I just did this mod but the LED is always on, I got the the same 3pdt. Can someone tell me what's wrong. Is it the switch or did I mess something while connecting the led. The rest seems to work fine....Thanx in advance !

  • I haven't put the LED in yet (haven't bought it yet) but I have the same switch and changed it all to true bypass today - one thing I very nearly did wrong was get the switch the wrong way round - easily done because it's a square, but can you see how the little lugs are horizontal? Are yours definitely like that?

I started to wire mine in with them vertical before I realised...!

  • cheers this vid has really helped cheers

    gonna do this mod soon

    when my switch comes!!!

  • Very good video!!! Will be following this for my mod. Is there any information on the 3PDT switch you got (Model etc.)? Nice one

  • It's possible to mod this wah pedal. You could do the LED and inductor mod. The true bypass one would be pretty straight forward; except there is no colour coding for the wires on the switch, so unless you knew which ones were the ones you needed to solder on the switches lugs then it wouldn't be a problem. The layout of the circuit board looks pretty similar, although obviously the front and back of the PCB are going to look different, but the principal of modding them are relatively the same.

  • Cheers mate, as long as you've followed the ammendment from the second video and carried it onto this modification you'll be alright. I've mentioned it in the video description box bit.

    Thanks

  • This is by far one of best wah modification I've seen so far. Thanks for time and nice shots.

  • Great video!
